Your guide to graduation and beyond www.imperial.ac.uk/graduation #OurImperial
2
CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2016! Your graduation is a celebration of your achievement and marks the beginning of the next step of your career and the start of your journey as an alumnus of Imperial College London. This guide contains all the information you need to know for Commemoration Day – make sure you bring this and the rest of the envelope contents with you on the day (ceremony and reception tickets and alumni letter). You can also find out how to get the most out of your Imperial connections and play an active role in the College community as an alumnus. 3
BEFORE THE DAY HIRE YOUR GOWN Graduands attending the ceremonies must wear academic robes. These are only available from Ede & Ravenscroft, the College’s approved academic dress supplier. Gowns for graduation can be hired online at www.gownhire.co.uk or by calling Ede and Ravenscroft on +44 (0) 1223 861 854. Gowns must be booked in advance. The deadline for hiring your gown is Friday 30 September 2016 at 17.00 (UK time)
PRE-GRADUATION PHOTOGRAPHY Tempest Photography will be providing a pre-graduation photography studio on Tuesday 18 October 2016, should you wish to avoid the queue on the day of your ceremony. This will take place from 10.00 to 19.00 in the Queen’s Tower Rooms, Level 1, Sherfield Building. Academic dress will be available during the pre-graduation photography sessions.
CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS If you can no longer attend your ceremony, please contact the Graduation team as soon as possible. If you have purchased guest tickets and one or all of your guests can no longer attend, you can obtain a refund by confirming the cancellation by email, and returning any ceremony and department reception tickets to the Graduation Office no later than 12.00 (UK time) on Friday 7 October. Unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds after this time.

CAR PARKING We regret that car parking is not generally available on the South Kensington Campus, or at the Royal Albert Hall. There are a small number of blue badge parking spaces reserved for students and guests with disabilities. These spaces are allocated on a first come, first served basis by emailing the Graduation team. There are a number of pay and display NCP car parks within the vicinity of the College. Please note that space is extremely limited and cannot be guaranteed.
GUEST SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS If you or your guests have special requirements (e.g. disabled seating in the Hall), this must be indicated when you register to attend your ceremony. The Graduation team can take into account special requirements if they are indicated on the registration portal until Friday 2 September 2016 at 10.00 (UK Time). After this time, the Graduation team cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate special requirements when allocating seats inside the Hall. If you have not indicated that you or your guests have special requirements, please contact the Graduation team immediately.
Email the Graduation team: • if you can no longer attend graduation • if you or your guests have special requirements for the ceremony, or • if you hold a blue badge and require a parking space

WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR CEREMONY Each ceremony lasts around an hour and a half. The ceremony begins with the audience upstanding as the academic procession enters the Hall. Once the procession is seated on stage, the audience takes their seat and the President of Imperial College Union, the Provost and the President of the College give speeches. Once the speeches have finished, academic staff from each Faculty read out the names of graduands from each department. At the appropriate moment, you and your fellow graduands will be instructed to stand and file out of your row and proceed to the right hand side of the stage. Staff from Registry will check your name against the reading list of student names. When you reach the top of the stairs on stage, a member of staff will check your name for the final time and you will be signalled when you should process across the stage. Your name will be called and you will walk across the stage to shake hands with the President, Provost or Chair of the College and your Faculty Dean. You will then proceed down the opposite stairs and will be directed back to your seat.
