1851 CIRCLE
WE ARE CELEBRATING YOUR SUPPORT
a
Situated at the heart of our White City Campus, the Invention Rooms is a unique facility of workshops and maker spaces where we invite local community members to collaborate with our students and staff to create and invent. Thanks to the support of our donors, the College is able to extend our highly engaging outreach programmes to more young people than ever before, inspiring future generations of inventors, entrepreneurs and makers from White City and beyond.
Welcome to the Imperial 1851 Circle. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you as a new member of the Imperial 1851 Circle. You are joining a growing community of donors who are deeply committed to the success of the College and its ambitious research and education programmes. The support of our circle donors is helping Imperial to conduct innovative research and offer our students every opportunity to thrive and achieve their potential. We are extremely grateful for your generosity and for the ‘vote of confidence’ in our mission that your gift implies. Mary Reynolds Director of Development and Campaigns

Making a lasting impact. The Imperial 1851 Circle acknowledges donors who have given between £1,000 and £4,999 during the College’s financial year. Your generosity is helping to sustain Imperial’s position as a leader in research, innovation and education. We are extremely grateful for your commitment to the College and our work, and for the important role that you are playing within the Imperial community. Prince Albert’s vision The circle is named in recognition of Prince Albert’s vision for a new scientific and cultural quarter in South Kensington, which was made possible following the success of the Great Exhibition of 1851. Prince Albert was a champion of innovation and education, and his foresight paved the way for the creation of Imperial, in the same way that our donors today are instrumental in helping the College remain at the forefront of world leading scientific research and education. Throughout Imperial’s history, gifts from generous alumni and friends have been vital to the College’s ongoing development. The Imperial 1851 Circle was established to recognise the impact donors have had on shaping Imperial, ensuring Prince Albert’s visionary legacy endures for many years to come.

“ Look at the transformation which has gone on around us since the laws of gravitation, electricity, magnetism, and the expansive power of heat have been known to us. It has altered our whole state of existence – one might say, the whole face of the globe. We owe this to science, and to science alone; and she has other treasures in store for us, if we will but call her to our assistance. Albert, Prince Consort (1849)
As a member of the Imperial 1851 Circle you are making an important contribution to the work of the College. Your support is allowing Imperial to address immediate needs in areas such as scholarships, bursaries, research, teaching and outreach initiatives. A bursary will support exceptional students from the most disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring all who earn their place here but lack the financial resource to study in London are able to join Imperial.

“ Receiving a scholarship has allowed me to focus on my studies and settle in London without having to worry about managing a job alongside a hectic schedule filled with lectures, labs and extra-curricular activities. The scholarship has also helped me with my career plans, giving me the chance to pursue exciting laboratory internship opportunities. Boglarka Nagy (Chemistry), undergraduate scholarship recipient

Gifts allow us to direct support where it is most needed, be it providing hardship grants, scholarships, bursaries or seed funding for research projects.
“ I was struggling to keep up with everything after taking extra modules because I needed to make time for project work later on. And I was working part-time to support myself. It felt like I was putting out one fire after another. The support I received allowed me to reduce my work hours and focus on my studies. It’s hard to measure all the things that have happened to me during my time at Imperial, but I can say that I am proud of how far I have come, and excited about where I am headed. Thank you for your support.” Chan Jun Shern (Engineering), Recent Graduate 5
Driving future innovation. At the White City Campus, Imperial is developing a thriving ecosystem of interdisciplinary research and innovation. The Campus will provide state-of-the-art space for translating research ideas into direct applications and spin-out companies. Within the Translation and Innovation Hub (I-HUB), companies are collaborating with Imperial researchers to turn scientific innovations into new products and services. The Molecular Sciences Research Hub will inspire a new way of doing chemistry that transcends disciplinary boundaries, and the Michael Uren Biomedical Engineering Research Hub will bring engineers, scientists and clinicians together to pursue transformative research into new and affordable medical technology. In its new home, our School of Public Health will bring together technological innovation, big data, and advances in scientific knowledge, to address some of the most complex health challenges in our own community and around the world. Philanthropic support has been, and will continue to be, critical in enabling us to achieve our vision for a modern university campus at White City.
