Situated at the heart of our White City Campus, the Invention Rooms is a unique facility of workshops and maker spaces where we invite local community members to collaborate with our students and staff to create and invent. Thanks to the support of our donors, the College is able to extend our highly engaging outreach programmes to more young people than ever before, inspiring future generations of inventors, entrepreneurs and makers from White City and beyond.

Welcome to the Imperial 1907 Circle. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you as a new member of the Imperial 1907 Circle. You are joining a growing community of loyal supporters who are committed to helping enhance Imperial’s reputation for excellence in research and teaching. Having recently joined the College, it is a privilege to see how passionate donors like you are about making a meaningful impact on Imperial and its students. Making a lasting impact. The Imperial 1907 Circle acknowledges the generosity of donors who have given between £5,000 and £9,999 during the College’s financial year. Medical breakthroughs, scientific discoveries and new technologies conceived at the College and funded by philanthropic support have helped shape Imperial since its establishment. By giving at this level your support is not only instrumental in helping the College to achieve its current priorities, but also in fulfilling its future ambitions. The founding of Imperial College London The Imperial 1907 Circle is named in celebration of the historic year the College was founded. On 8 July 1907 a Royal Charter, granted by King Edward VII, united the Royal College of Science, the Royal School of Mines and the City and Guilds College to form Imperial College London. Philanthropy played a vital role during the early days of Imperial. Substantial donations from renowned businessmen and philanthropists Sir Alfred Beit and Sir Julius Charles Wernher funded the construction of a new building, and exactly two years after the signing of the Royal Charter, the foundation stone was laid by King Edward VII. Just as philanthropy shaped Imperial at its foundation, your support is now determining the future growth of the College.

Your gifts allow us to direct support where it is most needed, be it providing hardship grants, bursaries, scholarships or seed funding for research projects. Thanks to the generosity of donors, chemistry student Michael Howlett was able to understake a placement at the University of British Columbia within the Tanner research group, which is working to produce a test molecule for a novel antibiotic.

Driving future innovation. At the White City Campus, Imperial is developing a thriving ecosystem of interdisciplinary research and innovation. The Campus will provide state-of-the-art space for translating research ideas into direct applications and spin-out companies. Within the Translation and Innovation Hub (I-HUB), companies are collaborating with Imperial researchers to turn scientific innovations into new products and services. The Molecular Sciences Research Hub will inspire a new way of doing chemistry that transcends disciplinary boundaries, and the Michael Uren Biomedical Engineering Research Hub will bring engineers, scientists and clinicians together to pursue transformative research into new and affordable medical technology. In its new home, our School of Public Health will bring together technological innovation, big data, and advances in scientific knowledge, to address some of the most complex health challenges in our own community and around the world. Philanthropic support has been, and will continue to be, critical in enabling us to achieve our vision for a modern university campus at White City.
