Much Ado About Nothing by Oxford Shakespeare Co.
29th June - 19th August in The Gardens of Wadham College, Oxford The Oxford Shakespeare Co, acclaimed specialists in open-air and site specific theatre, present in the beautiful surroundings of the Gardens of Wadham College Oxford: William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing Director Nicholas Green. Original Composition by Nicholas Llyod Webber. RESISTENZA! Messina, 1943. War is raging...the Italian Resistance defend their lands...and their hearts. Will Beatrice and Benedick ever fall in love? Will Claudio and Hero ever marry? Resisting love though is only part of their troubles; Don John and his gang of early Mafiosi, driven by greed and jealousy, seek to undermine the sanctity of blood and the bonds of family. Meanwhile, the well meaning antics of the Watch cause an altogether more comic misrule... The OSC makes a welcome return to Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, which we last produced back in 2002, and is a natural successor to last year’s wondrous Love’s Labour’s Lost (Critics’ Choice, The Telegraph). The OSC have long been regarded as a cultural highlight of the Oxford summer, performing to thousands of returning local residents and delighting a broad audience of national and international visitors of all ages. The Mummy Princess Ahmanet is ‘The Mummy’, an ancient Egyptian princess who was entombed beneath the desert, and who has awoken to claim what is hers and wreak her vengeance upon mankind. Over the millennia of her imprisonment, her anger and hatred has only grown, and she brings with her horrors beyond human comprehension. She could destroy everything, and only Nick Morton has a chance of stopping her.
Churchill Set during the preparations for D-Day and the liberation of France, ‘Churchill’ takes us behind the scenes and reveals the real man behind the public face of Winston Churchill. He was gripped by doubt and paranoia about D-Day: during the First World War, he had overseen the invasion of Gallipoli, a disastrous campaign that resulted in more than 250,000 people being cut down.
Rough Night Jess is in Miami for her bachelorette party, but what should be the best weekend of her life becomes a ‘Rough Night’ when her friends accidentally kill a stripper. They don’t get to see each other often, so they’re determined to make up for it with a weekend of drinking, dancing and debauchery. Unfortunately, what should have been the capstone on an amazing night turns into a disaster.
Transformers: The Last Knight The epic franchise continues with ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’, and Optimus Prime has disappeared to search for his creator. In his absence, humans and Transformers are at each other’s throats. War has broken out, and a terrible battle for survival has begun. Cade Yeager is determined to learn why the Transformers keep coming back to Earth out of all the planets in the cosmos – only for Optimus Prime to return.
Despicable Me 3 Gru and the Minions are back in ‘Despicable Me 3’, and they’re meeting a new (if slightly familiar) face: Gru’s identical twin brother Dru. Well, almost identical – Dru has hair. He’s successful, handsome and incredibly wealthy, and fixated on his family’s legacy of being supervillains. He wants Gru’s help, but Gru has left the life of crime behind. Just maybe, though, the promise of one last heist might be too much to resist…
Wonder Woman Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot who tells her about the massive conflict that's raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.

Frank's plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the 7-year-old's mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank's formidable mother, Evelyn, whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary.

Quartet for the End of Time Saturday 3rd June: Ravel Piano Trio in A minor, M. 67, Messiaen Quartet for the End of Time, The Soloists of the Oxford Philharmonic, Momo Kodama piano. Amid the despondency of a World War II prisoner-of-war camp, the apocalyptic prophecies of Revelations resonated profoundly with the deeply pious Olivier Messiaen. Striving not for retribution but instead spiritual reflection upon the world beyond, Messiaen wrote the Quartet for the End of Time for musician companions held captive there. Premiering this mystical work on a winter's night in 1941 to some four hundred prisoners and guards, Messiaen later recalled 'never was I listened to with such rapt attention and comprehension'. War, too, was on the horizon at the conception of Ravel's impassioned Piano Trio of 1914, spurring on the completion of this enchanting work so that Ravel could serve in the French army, as Messiaen later would in World War I's tragic sequel. Tickets: £20 (students £5). Time: 7.30pm. Venue: Holywell Music Room

City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Friday 9th June: Nicholas Collon Conductor, The Horn Section of the CBSO Soloists. Sibelius King Christian II Suite, Schumann Konzertstück for four horns and orchestra op. 86, Schubert Symphony no. 8 in B minor D. 759 Unfinished, Sibelius Symphony no. 7 in C op. 105. Nicholas Collon is without doubt one of the UK's most exciting younger conductors, with a stellar career, and Music at Oxford is thrilled by his choice of repertoire for this concert with the marvellous CBSO. Sibelius's King Christian II Suite is a stirring work which runs the full gamut of emotions, while his searingly beautiful 7th Symphony — though not 'unfinished' like the symphony of Schubert — is unusual for being contained in one just continuous movement. For sheer bravura, not much beats Schumann's Konzertstück — essentially a concerto for all four horns of the orchestra! Tickets: £15 - £45 (Under 18s & Limited Mobility 50% off, Students £5 off) Box Office 01865 244806, Online musicatoxford.com. Time: 7.30pm - 9.40pm. Venue: Sheldonian Theatre

BIO2017 A MASSIVE HIT WITH OVER 950 ATTENDEES! BIO2017 was held at The King’s Centre in Oxford on Thursday 11th May and the feedback at the event and from the post event survey has been nothing short of incredible. Delegates were wowed by a wide range of speakers on topics ranging from cures for cancer to space technology, inspirational speakers such as Hussain Manawer to stars of Dragons Den and The Apprentice and fantastic interactive opportunities for delegates such as Speed Networking with Carter Jonas, getting handcuffed with City Mazes or mixing cocktails with The Cocktail Service. There really was something for everyone with over 70 exhibitors, 80 presenters and 950 delegates. The main exhibition hall was a hive of activity as speed networking, cocktail making and the exhibitors ran alongside the Cotswold Hall open stage which created an incredible energy throughout the day. Sli.do was a great addition to the event providing delegates with an interactive means of asking questions during presentations which were then put to the speakers during the Q&A after all speakers had delivered their presentations. A full report on BIO2017 will be contained in B4 Issue 47 out in June and photographs and videos from the event will be made available soon. See www.businessinoxford. com for more details. If you would like to take part in BIO2018, contact us through the BIO website www.businessinoxford.com/ contact_us.html or call us on 01865 742211.
