“Newly built and completed in August 2015 these city centre maisonettes offer a hotel quality stay with the advantage of your own kitchen, dining area and wet room. “What Inky Fingers are hoping to show people is that comic books are not just ‘superhero’ stories - not just action for the sake of action - that there are as many comic book genres as there are book genres, from horror and crime thrillers to ‘slice of life’ and rom coms.”
The Oxford Kitchen

“The menu provides a lot of choice for any foodie. They also had a tasting menu with matching wines. This might be something I would come back and try sometime for a special occasion as it sounded and looked amazing.”

Theatre Article:
Awesome Amazing Addams Family
Reviewed by Patricia Daniels Friday 3rd July
I had the privilege to review the Advanced Oxford Stagecoach musical showcase of ‘The Addams Family’ on Fri 3rd July 2015 at The Theatre at Headington. I was treated to a true feast of musical theatre! The Summer programmes showcase the wealth of talent at Stagecoach Theatre Arts in Oxford, drawing on the training provided by their weekly classes in Headington and North Oxford. I was blown away by the talent of these teenagers and their drive to produce polished perfection. The entire show, script, songs, dances were learnt, practised, produced and performed in just 8 DAYS. The cast, teenagers from Stagecoach Oxford, were joined by counterparts from Stagecoach Malta. The dynamic production values and sheer energy of the cast must rank this musical theatre showcase as one of the top of the county. The Addams Family is not a well known traditional musical but it was one of the most entertaining I have ever watched. The characters, costumes, make up , wigs, props and set and were wonderfully authentic and created a gothic atmosphere. Mention must be made of the principal characters - Gomez, the passionate Latin lover played by Tats Nyazika, his devoted and domineering wife Morticia, played by Michela Farrugia, Wednesday (Ella Thomas) and her tortured little brother Pugsley, played very mischievously by Alex Weenink. Musical numbers “Pulled” and “ What if”, were sung with great passion. The iconic Uncle Fester was played brilliantly by Harry Pudwell, Grandma by Melissa Fry, making the character her own in the true Addams tradition. Lurch was played effectively by Brendon Thearle. The “normal” family from Ohio of Gianluca Mifsud (Lucas), Ben Ashton (Mal), the dad, and Beatrice Norris (Alice) gave outstanding performances. Wow! What singing! The Addams Family was a show full of great characters but what made the performance were the ‘ancestors’. Their chorus numbers were stunning with very polished with brilliantly choreography and vocal ability. Maya Sprigg, the Principal of Stagecoach in Oxford, produced a truly outstanding show. If you didn’t get to see it you certainly missed something very, very special.

Josh Kline: Freedom Tuesday 22nd August – Sunday 18th October: This exhibition includes a compelling installation from which the exhibition takes its title. Four towering ‘Teletubbies’ dressed in SWAT gear guard a barren space modelled after Zuccotti Park. For Hope and Change, Kline presents US President Barack Obama, played by an actor augmented with facial substitution software, who delivers a confrontational new version of his inaugural speech, addressing issues ranging from global warming to race relations. In this darkly compelling new exhibition, Kline creates a radical critique of the political and economic landscape of a globalised world.

Art Article:
Sarah Wiseman Gallery Instantly recognisable, Angie Lewin’s printmaking incorporates motif and line, nodding seed heads and spiked grasses. Over the years her work has become hugely popular, collected and admired avidly by legions of fans all around the UK and internationally. This September she will show a selection of new prints and work from older editions right here in Oxford at Sarah Wiseman Gallery. Sarah Wiseman first came across her work a few years ago after purchasing her prints. Following her career since that time, Angie began to show work at Sarah Wiseman Gallery in 2013, to great success. Her exhibition ‘Nature Study’, which has been two years in the planning, will be an opportunity for those new to her work and those who already know and love it, to see a big selection on display in the gallery. This not-to-be-missed show will include lithographs, silkscreens and wood engravings, all inspired by plant-life and the natural environment. Working from studios in Scotland and Norfolk, Angie collects pieces of dried seaweeds, seed heads, feathers and ceramic on her walks. Observing and drawing is very much a part of her creative process, where she investigates minute details down to a row of insect eggs on a leaf. Architectural plant forms are of particular interest, such as plants that are about to flower, or have already produced their seed-heads. Her interest in the bold graphic shapes of mid-century design and the distinctive fluid styles of early twentieth century British artists like Eric Ravilious are also influences. The muted palette with punches of stronger colour gives Angie’s work a vintage, yet fresh feel. She and her husband also run St Jude’s, a design company that creates fabric and wall-paper using Angie’s designs. Much like one her influences, Eric Ravilious, Angie is comfortable working across several design disciplines such as textiles, ceramics and interiors, rising to the challenges that each of these present. Angie has also collaborated with the Victoria and Albert Museum, Country Living Magazine creating a new print and mug design respectively. Angie Lewin will be in attendance on the launch day on Saturday 5th September from 11am – 1:30pm, so there’s an ideal opportunity to say hello to the artist herself. Shop Article:
The return of the comic shop It has been almost a decade since any specialised comic shop existed in Oxford. For comic book lovers that’s a decade of having to travel outside of Oxford, or resorting to reading or ordering online, when what we really want is a hub - a feeling of community - back again. That is exactly what Inky Fingers hopes to achieve. Inky Fingers opened just last month on 5th July and since then has welcomed all ages to browse their comics and sit in with a lovely cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate. They stock all of the comic book staples, from Marvel (such as The Avengers) and DC (such as Batman), to lesser known ‘indie’ and self-published books, to Oxford’s very own weekly kid’s comic magazine The Phoenix. No matter what your tastes are you will find what you’re looking for here. For some strange reason there has always been a kind of taboo surrounding reading comics. Many people are of the opinion that once you ‘grow up’ you won’t have any interest in them anymore, and that the older folks who do read comics are somehow childish. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Do you love to read? Do you appreciate art? Why wouldn’t you enjoy the two combined, then? What Inky Fingers are hoping to show people is that comic books are not just ‘superhero’ stories - not just action for the sake of action - that there are as many comic book genres as there are book genres, from horror and crime thrillers to ‘slice of life’ and rom coms. If you’re on the fence about getting into comics, think of them as ‘books+’ and pop in to Inky Fingers to have a chat about your interests and let them recommend something to get you started. Inky Fingers also offer a subscription service for those series you want to keep up to date with as they’re released. Visit the website to see their full catalogue of comics.

Restaurant Review:
The Oxford Kitchen Reviewed by Emma Gascoigne Friday 3rd July
During lazy weekends meandering around Summertown, I had never noticed The Oxford Kitchen. If that had continued to be the case, I would never have experienced this culinary gem, which would have been a real shame! From the moment I walked into The Oxford Kitchen, it felt like a place that I wanted to be on a Friday night. It was relaxed and elegant yet did not stray into being pretentious with friendly and charming staff. With the addition of the amazing food being served, it felt like we’d finally found Oxford’s fine dining secret. The menu provides a lot of choice for any foodie. They also had a tasting menu with matching wines. This might be something I would come back and try sometime for a special occasion as it sounded and looked amazing. It was a hot day (hard to believe as I write this with rain pouring down) so I went for the tomato gazpacho; the flavours were out of this world. My main followed of beef and pork belly and this was again well presented and delicious. The chef here knows exactly what food works together and delivers constantly on flavour. The presentation of the main was also worthy of hanging in a gallery, it looked that amazing. With all the dishes there was an element of theatre in the delivery and I rather enjoy that as it made the evening even more special. This has to be one of the best restaurants in Oxford at the moment. At the end of the night, we were asked if we had enjoyed our experience. We really had and I can’t wait to find an excuse to go back again soon. I’m turning 30 soon, so here’s hoping!

Restaurant Review:
The Red Lion Reviewed by Helen Brind/Peter Hudson Friday 14th August
The Red Lion is tucked away behind George Street, in between Oxford main theatres, The Oxford Play House and The New Theatre. The Red Lion Oxford benefits from a large secluded beer garden for those people who fancy alfresco dining. Booking a table cannot be simpler, you have the option to book online or by phone. I decided to book online which worked well including reminders of the booking both by email and text message. On arrival we were warmly greeted by the manager on the day and were quickly seated. An initial drinks menu was taken and the specials of the day explained, including “scallop of the day” which as a seafood lover was just up my street. The interior of the Red Lion has an upmarket and contemporary feel with a relaxing atmosphere and lighting. Both the food and drinks menu are extensive offering a varied and different choices of drinks and dishes. Meat, fish and vegetarian options are offered, ensuring everyone is sure to find something they will like. The meal was lovely, all courses were served promptly, at the perfect temperature and were well presented. However, the stand out dish was the chocolate brownie, scoring top marks being served at the just the right temperature so that it was lovely and gooey and missing the nuts which is always a plus point. We asked for a wine recommendation and were pleasantly surprised by the Romania Umbrele Sauvignon Blanc.G Service throughout the meal was attentive, with a genuine interest in our enjoyment from the staff. Offers: To join their wine club 25% of champagne of sparkling wine – Monday to Thursdays Fixed Price menu priced at £11.95 – Monday to Friday 12pm to 6pm

Restaurant Review:
Jee Saheb Reviewed by Lucy Parr Wednesday 12th August
Fancy an Indian restaurant with a difference? Well look no further than Jee Saheb for your breath of fresh (aromatic) air. The sleek, clean and modern décor immediately sets Jee Saheb apart from your more traditional Asian restaurant. Bright and airy, it’s a sign you’re in for a new dining experience. We were warmly greeted by manager Wayas and his friendly staff who seated us next to the huge window allowing us to enjoy the quaint outlook of ‘the village’ or North Parade Avenue as it’s officially called. A charming little street in north Oxford, North Parade is almost hidden off the Banbury road and is home to a lovely selection of local businesses. Jee Saheb has been firmly established in the area for over 9 year and is obviously a local dining favourite. As we perused the menu we enjoyed a new flavour of lightly spiced papadoms and a selection of chutneys. The menu offers a wide variety of classic and creative dishes from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. As well as all the usual favourites, we were struck by the tempting Chef recommendations which had some really interesting flavour combinations. The staff were so knowledgeable of the menu and encouraged us to try a brand new starter that the chef recently designed for a private party to rave reviews. The bel puri was an absolute delight, small balls made with a light crispy coating of semolina and rice flour and filled with a delicious delicately spiced shredded chicken. Look out for it on the new menu coming soon! Inspired by the success of the delicious starter we followed further recommendations to order our mains of Lamb Satkora cooked in a fruit of the same name and Chicken Handi Lazeez with coriander, chillies and cardamom. Once again we were overwhelmed with the lightness and freshness of the dishes, which didn’t leave you feeling overstuffed where many of the typical heavy cream-based curries can. Meat was tender and succulent and the Satkora was zingy with the Bengali lemon fruit which cleansed the palette and complimented the many infused spices. There is no way I would usually consider a dessert as I am usually so full I have to be rolled out the door! But our delicious meal was just light enough to leave a little space for us to indulge in a traditional Chai tea and soak up the relaxing atmosphere. My dining partner and I were thoroughly impressed with the refreshing choice of dishes and are already planning our next trip with friends to try out some more.
