HArry simmonds. cheok jiashern.
Harry Simmonds European artist born 1974, Bristol In the early stage, Harry worked mostly in black and white and using figurative motifs, initially involving depictions of himself. As he progresses, he began to illustrate the characteristics and portrait of the models who sat for him. His works then gradually became more painterly.
I like and am inspired by Harry SimmondsĘź art pieces - the way how he splattered his paint forming up a portrait of a human / his heavy textured brush strokes that gave his portrait a characteristic and mood, As a neomodernist member, his work has a directness and candour that has come about by a strict process of selfexamination as an artist. His art reflects his thoughtfulness about the world around him and some of the loneliness and pain that he observes can be seen in his striking black and white paintings.

Cheok Jiashern Malaysian artist born 1989, Malaysia An ex-classmate and talented painter have inspired me through his process of making a series of abstract works on his project, “Memoir of Richard Ashcroft. The four paintings shown, depict the essence of the lead singer of the Verve, Richard Ashcroft. His works have left a deep impression in my mind, Each paintings had various characteristic and representations. The dynamic brush strokes shouts at you and textures he used, played a role in making the painting comes alive. It felt so random yet almost each strokes seems to evoke a meaning or thought behind it.
