Restaurant Review
FINDING THE BEST PLACES TO EAT IN AND AROUND SHROPSHIRE
The Apothecary 35 Greengate Street, Stafford ST16 2HZ
T: 01785 231450
The Apothecary is a relatively new venue in the centre of Stafford which opened in December last year. A full refurbishment was undertaken transforming the former Post House into a very modern restaurant and cocktail bar. The Apothecary is a very large building which includes many different dining areas, a main bar area, a cocktail bar and even a nightclub. There are private rooms which are perfect for hosting your own private parties to celebrate those special occasions, including weddings. The interior of the building is extremely impressive and will wow you as soon as you walk through the door. There is a stunning staircase that leads up to the cocktail bar area with huge chandeliers and lots of comfy seating areas. We were shown through to our table and given a menu and wine list. We ordered a bottle of Sauvignon which arrived while we were still deciding on our food choices. For starters I chose the Panko Breaded Brie Bites with cranberry jam and Nik selected the Pan Fried King Scallops with wilted spinach and bacon lardons, garlic and white wine cream sauce, topped with Parmesan cheese. My Brie bites had a nice crunch on the outside with lovely soft melted Brie in the middle and the cranberry jam was delicious. Nik said his scallops were perfectly cooked and thoroughly enjoyed his starter. There was a great range of mains to choose from and Nik eventually decided on the Oven Baked Gnocchi in a rich tomato and oregano ragu, Parmesan crust and garlic flatbread fingers; I decided on the Beer Battered Cod with fat chips, mushy peas and proper tartar sauce.
6
FOOD & ENTERTAINMENT Nik is quite a fan of Gnocchi and was very pleased with his dish he managed to mop up every last bit with his flatbread fingers. We just about had room to squeeze in a dessert and I ordered the The Jam Jar Sundae and Nik went for the Warm Chocolate Brownie with chocolate sauce, popping candy and vanilla pod ice cream.
Thursday and all day Sunday for just £12.50 and includes a choice of any flat bread from the menu, a portion of salt and pepper chips and a jam jar sundae. Also available are a choice Afternoon Tea's, with Traditional, Fizzy or Cocktail Afternoon Tea and prices start from £14.50pp, please enquire or see website for full details. A resident DJ plays every Friday and Saturday from 9pm in the Lounge Bar, playing popular and chart music every week. The Apothecary has so much to offer there is something for everyone to try, but do call and book if you are dining in the restaurant.
The Jam Jar Sundaes come in a choice of Chocolate, Strawberry or toffee, I had chosen the chocolate and it did taste as good as looks! Nik's chocolate brownie was soon devoured, he said it was a great finish to his meal. We thought it would be rude not to go upstairs after our meal and sample a cocktail or two and with 2-4-1 offers it was great value too. Please note that the cocktail bar is only open on Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm. Food is served all day from midday until 9:30pm everyday. Special fixed price lunch is available until 5pm (Monday to Friday) with 2 courses for £11.95 or 3 courses for £14.95. The 'Flat-Jam' is available from 5pm till 9:30pm Monday to

Tastiest Pork Pie A Shropshire pork pie has been voted the tastiest in the country by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.
The pie, by Eley’s of Ironbridge, was voted No.1 in a blind taste test for Jamie’s best-selling Magazine – bumping patented Melton Mowbray pork pie makers Dickinson & Morris into second place.
IN THE COUNTRY
Richard's brother Tom Eley was responsible for making the two pies sent in to judges for final taste tests. “I just made them exactly as I make all of our pies as it was important to us that the judges tasted what we make day in day out,” said Tom.
Richard Eley said the family was absolutely delighted with the accolade: “It’s Jamie Oliver for heaven’s sake!”
World famous Eley’s of Ironbridge have been making their handraised pork pies to a secret family recipe for 50 years. The pastry is balled by hand then the pie is raised around a traditional dolly.
The taste test results are revealed in the June issue of Jamie’s Magazine in a feature asking ‘what makes the perfect Ploughman’s?’ After scouring the country, they rate the top 3 cheddars, pickles and pork pies.
Councillor Nicola Lowrey, borough councillor for the Ironbridge Gorge on Telford & Wrekin Council, said she was thrilled with the news.
The pies were judged on their appearance, their texture and their flavour. Pork pie baron Richard added: “Many, many outlets were invited to take part in the initial taste test and we thought ‘let’s do it’ – we believe our pies are fantastic. “When we heard we had made the Top 10 shortlist nationally we thought wow, what a fab result. To not only make the Top 3 but be judged to be the best is amazing. “We are totally honoured and delighted that our hard work over the years and traditional family recipe has been recognised.”
She said: “This is fantastic news not just for Eley’s, but for the vibrant business community in our internationally renowned World Heritage Site of Ironbridge. “It is wonderful to see a thriving, locally grown business continue to build on its rich history. Winning such a prestigious and well-recognised award on a national platform is positive for all of us, and we should all be very proud. “Not only can we celebrate the world’s first iron bridge and our heritage as the birthplace of the industrial revolution, but we can now tell everyone that we have the country’s best tasting pork pie.”

Recipe
STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE TARTS
Make the most of sweet and juicy British strawberries with these divine fruit tarts. If you don’t have time to make the pastry cream then use fresh ready-made custard or just top with sweetened whipped cream.
Ready in 45 mins, plus cooling time Serves 6
Ingredients: • 225g self-raising flour • 1tsp baking powder • 75g butter, chilled and diced • 50g caster sugar • 1 medium egg, beaten • 2-3 tbsp milk
For the Pastry Cream and Topping: • 2 medium eggs • 25g plain flour • 50g caster sugar • 1 tsp vanilla extract • 300ml milk • 150ml double cream • 175g strawberries • 5ml lemon juice • 1 tbsp icing sugar
1. Preheat the oven to 190C, fan 170C, Gas 5. Place a baking sheet in the oven to heat up. Lightly butter 6 x 8cm loosebased fluted tartlet tins (measured across the base). 2. Sift the flour, baking powder and a pinch of salt into a large mixing bowl. Add the butter and rub into the flour to make fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar, egg and enough milk to make a soft dough. 3. Divide the dough into six equal pieces and, using floured hands, press each piece of dough into the base and up the sides of a tartlet tin. Place the tins on the hot baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until risen and golden brown. Cool in the tins for 15 minutes then turn out and leave to cool completely. 4. To make the pastry cream, beat together the eggs, flour, caster sugar and vanilla extract. Pour the milk into a small pan and heat the milk to almost boiling point then whisk into the egg mixture. Return the mixture to the pan and cook for 5 minutes, stirring all the time, until thickened. Cover the surface with greaseproof paper and leave to cool completely. 5. Whip the cream until softly peaking and fold into the pastry cream. Puree half the strawberries by pushing through a fineholed sieve. Stir in the lemon juice and icing sugar. Slice the rest of the strawberries. 6. Spoon the pastry cream on top of the shortcakes. Top with the sliced strawberries and spoon over the puree. Serve within 2-3 hours of assembling.
TIP The shortcake tart bases can be made and stored unfilled in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Melt Your Fat Away
WITH NEW LIPOLIS7
Summer’s here and you haven’t started that diet that you said you’d start every Monday, since Christmas. You think you need a face-lift. You’re unhappy in your skin and you’re not quite ‘beach body ready.’ Now that I’ve grabbed your attention, let me tell you how I can change all of the above in one single comprehensive treatment, with no needles or workouts involved! Lipolis7 is a slimming and skin rejuvenation device which is designed for spas, salons and homeuse. There is so much pressure on women to diet and get that perfect ‘beach body’ but i'm going to tell you how I can help you lose weight without putting the hours in at the gym (there’s method to my madness)… ...First let’s talk about how Lipolis7 works for weight loss. Fat within the legs, abdomen and buttocks literally shrinks, as Lipolis7 collapses the fat; promoting your lymphatic system which in turn eliminates the toxins out of the body. To me it’s science, to you it’s weight loss. After the fat is collapsed, radio frequency melts the fat further. The vacuum then speeds up your body’s metabolism, which in turn allows the fat in the cells to disperse. It’s been proven to take inches off of waist lines, after just a few treatments. CELLULITE, BE GONE! ‘What about loose skin’ you ask? ‘Won’t I need a skin tuck now that the fats gone?’ No, as I said, I can change it all in one treatment. The reason I created this machine is because I always hear about people being unhappy in their bodies, just as I was, or believing that plastic surgery and botox is the only route if you want to look younger. They couldn't be more wrong. In just one treatment you will notice significant results to the firmness of your skin; not just all over your body but also on your face. The Lipolis7 is also face friendly, meaning wrinkles and lines will appear reduced after one sitting. The treatment is non-abrasive and rejuvenates your skin, making you look younger, healthier and feel happier. You’ll definitely be left wanting more. I know what you’re thinking… ‘What about the side effects?’ I say ‘what side effects, there are none!’
Book your first treatment now, you will not regret it.

Why it's Smart
TO FACE UP TO CHANGE
We’ve all had one of those moments. You spot a frowning, older face reflected in a shop window that looks strangely familiar. As your brain starts to process the image, you realise with shock that you are staring at your own reflection. Aging features, paunchy midriff and slightly stooping posture… could that really be you? Take comfort, you’re not alone. We all tend to deceive ourselves when it comes to our appearance, and if it’s been a while since you took a long, unflinching look at yourself in the mirror, you may simply be unaware of the way your face and body has subtly altered. Several years ago the US-based Pew Research Center questioned 3,000 people and found that most respondents felt younger than their date of birth would suggest. Almost half of fifty year olds said they felt no older than forty, while those aged 65-74 felt up to nineteen years younger. Given that so many of us feel younger than our chronological age, it’s hardly surprising that we expect to look younger, too. While there’s no real harm in imagining yourself younger, selfdeception isn’t your friend when it comes to matters of styling. In order to keep looking your best, it helps to understand the way your body alters as you age.
Ch-ch-changes
“Turn and face the strange” sang the late, great David Bowie, warning: “Pretty soon now you’re gonna get older”. Whether you like it or not, it’s important to understand that the older “you” is likely to have a very different body shape, skin tone and hair colour than the twenty-something version you remember so well. People with fair skins will find their complexions become more sallow with age, while darker skins may suffer from uneven pigmentation. Hair loses its gloss, turning grey or white, and attempts to dye it back to a youthful shade are often unsuccessful because that colour is no longer compatible with a mature skin tone. Unless you are exceptionally motivated when it comes to diet and exercise, it’s also likely that you will gain weight as you age. At the same time you will experience some height loss: people typically lose almost half an inch (about one centimetre) every ten years after age 40.
Styling for men: how to be a grey fox
GQ Magazine advises its mature readers: “Your wardrobe should err far more on the side of style than fashion”, adding that the key to dressing well in your 50s, 60s and 70s is to make sure that clothes fit properly. Go through your wardrobe and throw away anything that squeezes in the wrong places. Swap trainers (especially the more brightly coloured styles) for smarter shoes and, where possible, buy longer-lasting, quality clothes instead of cheaper items.
16
Well-cut jackets worn with crisp, well-ironed shirts will keep you looking good whatever your age. Baggy trousers should be avoided at all costs, but if you’ve gained some weight since your younger days, it’s safer to buy straight-cut trousers than squeeze into today’s more tapered styles. You’ll find plenty of style advice for older men available online. A good place to start is the Grey Fox Blog (www.greyfoxblog. com) or alternatively you can find some inspirational styling ideas on Pinterest (pinterest.com).
Styling for women: why it’s wise to accessorise
Despite the fact that we are all living longer, clothes designers still seem to be obsessed with youth fashion. It can be frustrating to try on dresses, shirts and trousers designed for younger bodies, so if the tailoring doesn’t work with your contours, try experimenting with more flowing styles that don’t cling to your body shape. If you are sensitive about a thickening waistline, less-than-firm upper arms or a wrinkled neckline, simply conceal them with light, flowing clothing or a scarf. Choosing bold accessories as a focus for your outfit is a good way of diverting attention from features you’re less keen to show off. Keep make-up light and simple – heavy foundation can emphasise wrinkles and laughter lines. As hair tends to become drier and more brittle with age, consider experimenting with short hairstyles, layered or feathered to frame your face. Fortunately you’ll find plenty of websites that offer great fashion advice for mature women. Try Helen Walmsley-Johnson’s column The Invisible Woman at theguardian.com or visit Alyson Walsh’s blog site That’s Not My Age (thatsnotmyage.com). Knowledge is power. The key to styling in your later years is to understand the aging process and the way it affects your face and body. Age is something to be celebrated, not denied or ignored, and there’s much to be gained when - rather than ignoring or resisting the physical changes caused by aging you finally decide to embrace them. Once you’ve developed your own, personal style, the chances are you’ll look as young as you feel.

BEAUTY & FASHION
Summer Sensations From staycations to Caribbean cruises, this month’s beauty buys are all about summer holiday essentials. If your limbs are still looking a bit winter-white, try Trilogy Instant Bronzing Gel. It’s easy to apply and dries quickly. You get an instant, natural tint with a longer lasting, natural looking tan developing over time. The resulting colour is very subtle, but you can build it up into a richer bronze with daily application. The gel also includes Aloe vera and vitamin E, to moisturise and refresh tired legs. Cost is £12.50 from www. trilogyproducts.com. Hotel rooms often don’t have a mirror anywhere near a plug socket, which can make styling your hair rather difficult. So, if you’re in the market for some new straighteners, you might want to consider Lee Stafford’s No Strings Attached Cordless Straighteners. Pop them into the base and they’ll quickly heat up to 230°C. You can then take them to the mirror and style your hair while the heat lasts (about 15 minutes). With such a high temperature, and tourmalineceramic plates, they’re really quick and easy to use. There’s no need to strain your eyes peering at a mirror

Finding the Dress When it comes to planning a wedding every girls’ number one priority is finding her dream dress.
OF YOUR DREAMS
Minimalist, sleek and modern might have been what you had in mind, but full-on fairytale princess could be just the thing to make your dreams come true. It’s crucial to think about your height, figure and shape when looking for your gown. Carefully consider what is most flattering and what will make you feel truly special but comfortable too.
And fortunately, if you are working to a strict budget, there is more choice than ever before these days, at a price you can afford. Local bridal boutiques are great. Not only do you receive the best in personalised customer service, but there’s a fabulous selection of lesser known brands and independent labels, that help to ensure your dress will be unique. Buying your wedding gown is the most special purchase you’ll ever make, and although it might be a ong process before you find ‘the one’ - it will be worth it in the end.
How to find ‘the one’… Be completely open minded as soon as you start your hunt for the perfect dress. You probably will have some preconceived ideas about what will suit you, and so will naturally avoid certain looks. But it really is essential to break from these thoughts and try as many different styles as you can get your hands on.
Strapless, shoulder-revealing designs might look perfect on the model, but will they really be right for you? Make sure you listen carefully to the honest opinions of your family and friends - they see you differently to how you see yourself. And, always take advantage of the professional advice that’s on offer from sales staff - they deal with hundreds of brides everyday and are well versed in what works best for all different shapes and sizes. Upon settling on the style that’s going to make you look gorgeous, consider colours. Shades of white and cream can vary dramatically and as great as a stark white gown might look on a dark haired tanned bride, it could completely wash-out someone who is pale and fair - a complexion enhancing creamy, ivory hue would look so much better. For those who love something that bit different though, embrace bold colour, statement design and enchanting embellishments. Just make sure that everything combines to make you look and feel beautiful.

Should I use more than one estate agent to sell my house? Brought to you by James Carlon James Carlon Co Author of ‘THE TELFORD PROPERTY BLOG’
So you’ve had your house on the market for a while and the viewings have dried up - what do you do? If you want a quick sale (and let’s face it, most of us do) the chances are you’ll be tempted to approach another agent to see if they can help move things along. After all, two heads are better than one, right?
Thirdly, there is simple human nature at play here - an agent may be tempted to persuade you to take a lower offer to sell the house with them, or they may assume you’ll sell with the rival agent and take their foot off the gas.
“You might think these things don’t happen, but they do!”
Well… in this case, perhaps not! I was talking to a potential client recently who failed to sell their house a number of years ago despite having had it on the market with two agents. How could they both have failed, he wondered?
My advice would be to thoroughly research your preferred estate agents, both online and offline, before choosing who to go with. Then you can be sure of choosing the best agent for your house and you won’t need to look around for anyone else.
There are a number of reasons why having your property marketed by two agents is not always a good idea. Firstly, it can make you look a bit, well, desperate. Why do they need two agents to sell this house, potential buyers might wonder, what’s wrong with it?
James Carlon Residential Sales Manager Nock Deighton
Secondly, it can turn out to be more expensive because you are effectively paying two people to do one person’s job.

Has the general election affected the Telford housing market? Brought to you by Dawn Clarke Dawn Clarke Co Author of ‘THE TELFORD PROPERTY BLOG’
Politics has dominated the news headlines in recent weeks, with the fall-out of the general election giving pundits plenty to chew over.
Conversely, it’s also a good time to consider investing in property because the level of demand from tenants is very high due to the lack of available property to let.
“But what does it all mean for Telford’s housing market?”
This rise in demand and dip in supply is pushing rents up - average rents in the West Midlands increased by just over 2% in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the same period last year, and this rise is likely to accelerate throughout the rest of the year.
To be honest, regardless of your political colour, the result of the general election hasn’t actually changed much, so it’s very much a case of business as usual here in Telford & Wrekin. Buyers have remained confident over the past year, despite the EU referendum, and we don’t expect the general election result to change that. We have remained busy right up to the election so I am confident the local property market will continue to perform strongly. The main issue is still a lack of stock on the market and there are limited options for buyers and people looking for rental property. That means it’s an ideal time to seek advice and take your property to the market to achieve the highest price possible. 24
The lettings market in the Telford & Wrekin area is always strong because it’s such a popular place to live, with good employment opportunities and a growing population. For more information about property management and investment opportunities in Telford, please call or drop me an email.

Books
SUMMER ESCAPES From future catastrophes to whole new worlds, this month’s reads are pure escapism.
The Night Brother – Rosie Garland
Two souls – one body. Nineteenth century Manchester is home to Edie by day and Gnome by night. But as both start to resent the other’s presence, an internal war breaks out which threatens to tear them apart. Throw in suffragettes, love affairs and family dynamics, and you have a truly absorbing read. If you enjoyed Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus, or anything by Angela Carter, this book is for you.
The Girl of Ink and Stars – Kiran Millwood Hargrave
Isabella’s village is under the control of the ruthless Governor Adori, but the surrounding woods are under the control of a force even more dangerous. Isabella dreams of crossing the forest and charting the Forbidden Territories. A girl is found dead, and Isabella’s friend, Lupe, goes missing. With nothing to guide her but an ancient map, her beliefs, and her determination, Isabella sets out to rescue Lupe. This children’s book has gained rave reviews and while it lacks the depth needed to truly appeal to an adult audience, it’ll keep 9-12 year olds enthralled.
Menagerie – Rachel Vincent
A travelling carnival has come to town, complete with its menagerie of fantastical beings. Delilah has always thought herself human, but her reaction at the exhibits’ treatment is anything but, and she is locked away and put on display herself. Delilah befriends her fellow captives, refuses to accept her slavery and forms an uneasy alliance with one of her ‘handlers’. But is escape really an option in a world where she has fewer rights than an animal? An easy, enjoyable read, perfect for the sun lounger.
A Wizard of Earthsea – Ursula K. Le Guin
A boy wizard learning to control his powers, mystical lands, magical battles, dragons – this book has them all. First published in 1968, A Wizard of Earthsea tells the story of Ged – a boy who saves his village from attack and is sent to train to be a wizard. He learns to control his power, but accidently unleashes a shadow creature that nearly destroys him. Like Rowling, Tolkein and numerous other fantasy writers, Le Guin’s work will appeal to older children and adults alike.
Naondel – Maria Turtschaninoff
19 year old Kariba falls for a power-hungry young man and reveals to him the secrets of her family’s spring: it can foretell the future and bestow health or harm. Once Iskan has harnessed the spring’s power, there is little anyone can do to stop him. He starts collecting women to his harem, treating them as little more than playthings. Naondel is told from the point of view of Kariba and the other women, over the span of several decades. Beautifully written, and at times quite harrowing, this will stay with you long after you’ve turned the last page.
The Space Between the Stars – Anne Corlett
Jamie survives a virus that’s wiped out most of humanity. She’s on a planet far from home, and far from Daniel – the man she once loved. Together with the handful of other survivors she finds, Jamie sets out on the long journey across the stars back to Earth. If you’re not a sci-fi fan, don’t let that put you off. The Space Between the Stars is much more about human relationships and fragile societies than it is about space ships. This has summer bestseller written all over it.

Building a Future
FOR FAMILY MEMORIES
Top of their list is the oddly-named Gimp, which works like a basic version of the industry-standard software Photoshop. Gimp allows you to do everything from cropping and resizing to altering exposure and colour balance. It also has the same invaluable ‘clone tool’ as Photoshop, which allows you to heal the spoiled parts of a photo by copying an undamaged area over the damaged spot.
Converting your slides During the 1960s and 70s a craze for slide photography meant that many amateur snappers temporarily stopped taking conventional photos. If you have boxes of slides that you need to convert to digital files, you will need an additional piece of equipment. Slide scanners start at around £16 (for a device that can be used together with a smartphone), while standalone scanners can cost up to £125.
I recently inherited several boxes of family photographs, with images dating from Victorian times - when photography was in its infancy right up to the first decade of the new millennium. Some pictures were stored carefully in albums but others were roughly crammed into folders and envelopes. Unsurprisingly, some of the older items were beginning to show signs of deterioration, including rips, stains and tiny spots of mould. While I felt very privileged to be the keeper of this important archive, it was a reminder that my own family snaps and VHS tapes were packed in the loft: all in danger of going the same way as my newly-acquired collection. After taking stock of all this precious material - which documented over 100 years of my family’s history - it occurred to me that I had a responsibility to preserve it for future generations.
Preserving family photographs When it comes to the future of a family photo collection you are faced with a straightforward choice: either divide the photographs up between a select group of relatives, or digitise the entire archive so it can be enjoyed by everyone. While the first option is quick and simple, it’s not entirely satisfactory. Unless the collection includes duplicate images, no-one will hold a complete set of family photos. There is also a chance that in future someone will throw out their part of the collection because they no longer have space to keep it. Converting hard copy photos to digital images may involve a lot of work, but it ensures that the archive will be passed on from generation to generation. Restoring and digitising photographic images can also become an enjoyable hobby: there’s great satisfaction in transforming faded, mould-spotted and torn pictures into images that look as fresh as the day they emerged from the darkroom. If you decide to digitise, you will need a computer with enough disk space to store the photographic files you are creating. You’ll also need some kind of photo editing software. According to the magazine What Digital Camera?, there are several good image manipulation packages that are completely free to download.
32
VHS videos to DVD I had a shock recently when someone told me that analogue videos and home movies are susceptible to the same degradation as photographic slides, prints and negatives. VHS tapes, Hi8 and Video8 are magnetic media: as the magnetic particles gradually lose their charge, the tape deteriorates. Depending on how carefully you store your tapes, you can expect at least a 20% reduction in playback quality after 10-25 years. The easiest way to convert videos to DVDs is to connect a video-cassette recorder (VCR) to a PC via an analogue-todigital video capture device. You’ll need to record the VHS video to your PC’s hard drive and then write the recorded video to DVD, using the DVD writer installed on your PC. Be warned, however, that VCRs are slowly becoming obsolete, so if you have a large number of VHS tapes to convert and don’t already have a VCR, this may be a good time to buy one. A medium-priced video capture device costs between £25 and £50, while a VCR costs from £30 upwards (refurbished models may cost less). If you only have a few tapes to convert, you might consider using a professional service. It’s worth checking online for the best deal: Asda Photo charges £27 per tape, while web-based conversion specialists such as digitalconverters.co.uk typically charge under ten pounds for a single VHS or Hi8 tape. Once your family photos and videos have been converted into a longer-lasting format, the next step will be deciding the best way to share them. You could burn them to DVD and give them out to family members, upload them to a cloud file-sharing system or create a family website. Be aware that if you choose cloud or web-hosting services to house your digital files, you may end up paying an annual fee. Thanks to my inherited collection, digitising family images now occupies much of my spare time, and I’ve even started to help friends who want family photos restored. It’s rewarding to know that, once converted to a digital format, these important visual records will go on giving pleasure far into the future.

Update Your Bathroom Give your bathroom an appealing summer makeover with our easyto-achieve tips. A DASH OF PAINT
Any room can be updated with a lick of paint, and bathrooms are no different. Choose specially formulated bathroom paint, which has a mid-sheen finish (easier to wipe down than matt emulsion) and resists moisture and steam, providing long-lasting protection against condensation and mould. Fresh white always looks great in a bathroom, while deeper shades such as charcoal or navy make a striking impact, and mid blues, greens or yellows are fresh and cheery.
UPDATE YOUR ACCESSORIES
Have your towels seen better days? Is your soap dish so last century? How much longer will your old shower curtain last? Take your pick of all sorts of fashionable new options, from graphic patterns to flamingo designs or marble and copper. Little things (think loo roll holder and even the toilet seat and brush) can make a big difference. You might want to think about adding an artwork to the walls, too, giving colour, pattern and a dramatic focal point.
REPLACE YOUR TAPS AND WASTES
Tap styles go out of date and wastes get scratched and worn – but fortunately they are easy for a plumber to replace, and will give your room an instant, on-trend update. Take advice about the technical side of things – like water pressure and how far your taps should project over the basin – then choose styles that look great, function well and make you feel happy. At the same time you could save on bills by installing water-saving taps – and why not go for an aerated or low-flow showerhead, too?
CONCEAL CLUTTER
No one wants to look at bleach and old flannels when they’re having a relaxing bath or an invigorating shower. If your bathroom is short on storage, the easiest way to create more space is with a slimline, wall-mounted cupboard (perhaps with a mirror on the door), though there are all sorts of other clever options, from racks and rails to shelves and hooks. Matching baskets, rows of glass jars and small wooden crates look very pretty and will help keep things tidy, while freestanding options such as caddies and towel ladders hold heaps of stuff and can be hugely convenient.
AT THE WINDOW
If your bathroom window has seen better days, consider replacing a dull roller blind with something more interesting. You need privacy and practicality, but why not have something beautiful, too? Roman blinds, café curtains or wooden louvres or shutters are all good options, or you could go for a cheap and instant transformation with adhesive film, either plain frosted or one with a subtle pattern.
36
FOR SUMMER
ADD A PLANT
Not only are houseplants back in fashion once again, but they also make a great statement in a bathroom and have the added advantage – provide you choose the right type of plant – of absorbing some humidity and even reducing the levels of pollutants in the air. Look for plants that thrive in damp conditions and are happy with the level of light in your bathroom. Options include peace lilies, English ivy, reeds, palms and Boston ferns.
BRING IN MORE LIGHT
Mirrors in bathrooms aren’t just for doing make-up – they also bounce light around the room and help make your smallest room feel brighter and more spacious. An oversized mirror will be a statement piece as well as an essential element. While thinking of light, check that you’re happy with your bulbs. Swapping to LEDs will save money in the long run, and you may also be able to increase the light levels overall. And if you don’t mind calling in an electrician for a quick job, you could consider changing your light fittings themselves for alternatives that are good-looking and up-to-date. Just remember that they have to comply with safety regulations and be certified for use in a damp environment.
ATTACK OLD GROUT
Recreate that brand-new bathroom feel by getting rid of discoloured grout – a simple DIY job that’s boring but shouldn’t take too long. It is always worth trying a thorough clean with proprietary products first, but if the mould or stains won’t shift, buy a special grout rake from a hardware store (they cost just a few pounds) and work your way carefully around the room, removing the old grout to a depth of at least 2mm. Buy a pack of fresh new grout, mix and apply according to the instructions. While you’re at it, take a careful look at your silicone sealants, too. If they are black and mouldy, carefully lift them off with a sharp knife, clean the area thoroughly, dry, and re-apply new sealant. You’ll need a steady hand for this bit, so take a deep breath before you start, and if in doubt, search for an online video for guidance.

Welcome from TPS! Hello all!
• We held our annual primary concert which included 13 primary schools coming to sing with our senior choir.
For those of you who don’t know me, I am Stacey Jordan, Headteacher of The Telford Priory School. I wanted an opportunity to update you on some of the fantastic things our TPS pupils have been doing this term, and to let you know about the plans we have for the coming term.
• We have started a challenge with Epson (our business in the community link) to help the environment through the collection and sensible recycling of bottle tops. I can’t wait to see who wins!
Highlights so far this term include: • Our year 8 boys won the Shropshire President's football shield against lots of schools in the area! • Our year 7 nurture group visited Cadbury world at the end of their Chocolate project and had a fabulous time! • Shakespeare house raised over £570 for charity as part of their house week; a fantastic achievement. • We held a Primary Sports Day event for lots of local schools and the winners were Newdale Primary!
38
I am committed to putting Telford Priory School at the very heart of the local community, and welcome conversations with local groups that feel we may be able to help. Our school has amazing facilities and is keen to open this up to all! I would like to offer you all an open invitation to come and see our school for yourself and have a personalised tour with a member of our leadership team. Come along and see our amazing facilities and the work we are doing with our young people. I look forward to meeting you.

Discover More This Summer AT WESTON PARK Enjoy a day filled with exploring the great outdoors this summer at Weston Park. Let the kids loose on 1,000 acres of sprawling parkland, the much loved Woodland Adventure Playground and the delightful Miniature Railway. If that hasn’t worn them out, there are still mazes, woodland trails and more to see. Discovery workshops will be taking place on weekdays during the summer holidays. Kids can have fun making crafts, pond dipping and following woodland walks, all focused around building things – in celebration of famous architect James Paine’s 300th Birthday. Inside the House, discover a place shadowing times gone by, with family heirlooms adorning every room such as the Dining Room, Library and Tapestry Room, all open to explore. Whilst at the Park, stop off at the Granary and indulge yourself in freshly brewed coffee, homemade cakes and freshly prepared sandwiches. There’s plenty for all the family to discover at Weston Park.

Gardening Now that the weather is really summery, everyone is rushing to their local garden centres, garden shows and nurseries to stock up on new plants for the garden. Before you get too carried away, don’t forget to make sure that the plants you buy have a good chance of surviving, not only once they get home, but also during the journey there. It is amazing how many plants are seriously damaged in the short period of time between leaving the garden centre and arriving in the new owner’s garden. If you really want to ensure that everything goes smoothly, it’s worth taking a few very sensible precautions. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you can take something home the day you buy it if it is really far too large to fit in your car. The number of plants I have seen travelling home sticking out through the sunroof of a car is quite amazing. In a position like this, however slowly you drive, the foliage is going to be scorched and damaged and it is quite possible that a not too pliable stem may be broken. If a plant doesn’t fit in your car easily, then take advantage of the delivery service - almost all garden centres now offer delivery and this is usually free of charge within a reasonable radius. Admittedly it may mean that you have to wait until the delivery day for your area, but it is much better than seriously damaging your plant as you attempt to get it home yourself. If the plant does fit in your car then remember to wrap the root ball in a black bin liner or a box, to prevent the back of your car becoming full of compost, grit etc. Always use the garden centre as the last port of call before travelling home, as in hot weather temperatures build up fantastically fast in a closed car, even if you leave the windows or the sunroof open. Under these conditions the plants can soon be boiled alive, literally! Plants in the boot should be safer for a slightly longer period of time, but even then you should try to travel straight home once you have made your purchases. If you are absolutely determined to take something home that protrudes slightly from your car, then it is essential that you wrap up anything which is sticking out really well to prevent leaf scorch and damage to fine twigs. The garden centre should be able to provide you with something (and if not do you should do it yourself), but make sure that it is tied down extremely
42
GET YOUR PLANTS HOME SAFELY
well so that it can’t blow off on the way home. Remember that anything protruding from your car could potentially cause a driving hazard to other road users, so bear this in mind before you do anything too foolhardy! Even on a short journey home, plants which are exposed to exaggerated heat inside a car or the scorching effect of sunlight travelling through the car glazing can be seriously damaged, so cover them up with something to decrease the risk. It is worth taking a few old newspapers with you when you go to the garden centre, as these make perfect temporary tents. Remember that most plants prefer fairly constant conditions, so try not to put them through too many changes in a short space of time. Ideally, take them from one area in the garden centre to somewhere similar in your garden, and keep any travelling during hot weather to a minimum. If they look at all damaged from their journey then give them a week or two to recuperate in dappled shade in a protected position in your garden. And don’t forget that when you plant anything new in your garden, if the weather is at all dry it is well worth waiting until the evening or at least late afternoon before planting. Then make sure that everything is kept well watered, as this will increase the chances of the plants establishing without too much distress.

Is Your Garden
IN NEED OF A NEW DESIGN?
Don’t tuck your outdoor furniture into a dark, cramped corner this summer. Make space to enjoy an exciting al-fresco lifestyle on a new deck!
so rewarding. My decision to move to Telford and create this business a few years ago has been life changing for me, and with plenty of generous testimonials to back this up, it can be life changing for my clients too.”
We have all tolerated a less than perfect outdoor scenario at some time. Often familiarity with our home environment can prevent us from seeing what could be done to make quite transformational changes in the way we view and use the space around us. A simple deck can completely transform a garden, particularly if used to counter a difficult slope or form a link between awkward corners and shapes. A modest timber structure can easily provide a whole new outdoor area in which to dine, entertain, or perhaps facilitate a safely controlled kiddies’ play area.
Where this summer might you be sitting to enjoy your morning coffee, your hard earned evening glass of wine or even your Sunday breakfast? For more information or to arrange a home visit to discuss your ideas contact Chris on 07739 546167, email: chris.nichols@ btconnect.com or visit: www.deckingandpergolasltd.com
To be effective the design doesn’t have to be restricted to a single expanse of decking finished in the same old boring colour either. A deck can fulfil many design ambitions, punctuated with planting beds, a pond or water feature, or maybe a trellis or a pergola to create a practical and attractive seating or barbeque area, often terraced with a balustrade to complete the scene. Chris Nichols, owner of Decking and pergolas says: “The joy I sense in people when they see and use a finished scheme for the first time is

Garden of Delights GADGETS TO MAKE THE OUTDOORS GREAT AGAIN It’s that time of year again: it’s stopped raining for a bit, the sun’s started to poke out from behind a cloud and most of England has had a hosepipe ban for the last five months. It’s summer, and that means spending all of your time outside for no particular reason. There is no shortage of gadgets to brighten up your outdoor life, from solar lights to barbecue boosters, but it’s worth having a think before you spend any money: for example, a set of solar string lights that costs about four pounds isn’t going to be very bright or last for very long. Look out for two things in particular: the size of the solar panel and the number of LEDs. The bigger the panel the more power it’ll grab from the sun, and the more LEDs the brighter it’ll be. Watch out for colours, too: normal white LEDs have a bluish cast, so if you prefer yellow you’ll need to look for “Warm White” LEDs. One of the best things technology can do in your garden is remove some of the drudgery. The Garden Groom Pro looks like a giant caterpillar, but it’s a hedge trimmer with a difference: it hoovers up the cuttings so you don’t have to spend all week sweeping the street. At £79.99 it’s not too pricey compared to normal trimmers, and at 3.5kg it shouldn’t break your arms either. While we’re on the subject of trimmers, for just £29.99 the VonHaus Cordless 2 in 1 Grass and Hedge Trimmer can make life easier too: it has interchangeable blades suitable for hedge, grass or shrub trimming, and it moves from handheld to upright with the addition of a single handle and wheel. Technology needn’t be complicated to be effective: Hozelock’s garden watering system is fairly low-tech but works a treat. It’s a modular system that enables you to run watering all around your garden by connecting multiple Hozelock components together, and controllers range from simple timers to one that connects to the internet and can be controlled from an iPhone or Android app. That component isn’t cheap - it’s currently £109.99 - but you can buy it bundled with complete watering kits for around £180, which isn’t bad for an entire garden irrigation system. Every year we ask ourselves the same question: can we afford a robot lawnmower yet? Sadly this year we have the same answer: not quite. Prices are coming down - the Flymo 1200R Robotic Mower is down to just under £600 this year, compared to an original RRP of £999, but it’s still a little too expensive for us. You may disagree, however: £600 isn’t a lot in the world of premium lawnmowers, so if you’d normally consider a self-propelled petrol mower the Flymo isn’t significantly more expensive - and it’s a lot quieter too. One increasingly important area for gardeners is security: thieves will happily run off with expensive plants, garden furniture or anything else of value. If you fancy adding a camera to keep an eye on things when you’re not around, Samsung’s very clever £125 Smart Home Camera is easy to install and works with computers and mobile devices alike. You can even get it to notify you on your phone when it detects movement, so you can see if it’s a fox or something more sinister. It has audio detection too, which is useful in low light.

Stay Safe Lobster’ arms. Heat exhaustion. It seems that despite the publicity, we’re still not getting the sun protection message – and we’re risking serious health issues. Protecting Your Skin
“A tan is actually a sign that the skin has been damaged and is trying to protect itself,” warns the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD). The brown colour is caused by melanin, produced by your body in a desperate attempt to protect itself from further UV damage – and UV damage can lead to skin cancer. In effect, sunburn is a radiation burn. This doesn’t mean you should never go out in the sun. We need a little sunshine to keep Vitamin D levels topped up (specifically outdoor sunshine, as glass blocks the UVB needed for Vitamin D production). But it does mean protecting your skin is important. This means: • finding shade when the sun is strongest (usually 11am - 3pm from March to October in the UK); • covering your skin (remembering that fabrics allow UV light through to various extents); • choosing a suitable sunscreen - and using it properly.
IN THE SUN cancer developing in later life,” warns the NHS. Children under 6 months should be kept out of strong sunlight completely. • You should take extra care if you have: ¾¾ pale, white or light brown skin; ¾¾ freckles or red or fair hair; ¾¾ many moles (look out for new moles, growths or lumps, and size, shape or colour changes to existing moles, freckles or patches of skin); ¾¾ skin problems relating to a medical condition; ¾¾ a family history of skin cancer. • You should also take extra care if you: ¾¾ tend to burn rather than tan; ¾¾ are only exposed to intense sun occasionally (e.g. on holiday); ¾¾ are in a hot country with particularly intense sun.
Treating Sunburn Cool it down by applying plenty of cold water, then a soothing product such as after sun or calamine lotion. An antiseptic cream that contains a local anaesthetic can help, as can basic painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen. If you feel unwell or your skin swells badly or blisters, seek medical help. Avoid the sun until all redness has gone.
Choosing Sunscreen
Protecting Your Eyes
Choose sunscreen with both UVA and UVB protection. ‘UVA’ will be in a circle logo and is rated up to 5 stars. UVB protection is indicated by the SPF (sun protection factor). SPFs range from 2 to 50+; the higher the number, the higher the protection.
UV light damages eyes too, so protection is vital. • As soon as they’re old enough to understand, teach children never to look at the sun and how serious the consequences can be.
Look for a cream with at least four-star UVA protection and at least 30 SPF.
• Adults and children should wear sunglasses, even on cooler sunny days. Ensure they protect against both UVA and UVB and choose sunglasses with wraparound lenses or wide arms with the CE Mark and European Standard EN 1836:2005.
Using Your Sunscreen Sun cream is only as effective as its application, so: • Apply liberally. “The overall message in terms of sunscreen use is ‘more is better’”, says the BAD. Apply at least two teaspoons of sunscreen to cover the head, arms and neck and two tablespoons to cover the entire body while wearing a swimming costume. • Apply frequently. If you plan to be in the sun long enough to risk burning, sunscreen should be applied 30 minutes before going out and just before going out. The BAD recommends reapplying it at least every two hours afterwards. • It also needs to be applied again straight after you’ve been in water, even if it’s ‘water-resistant’, as it will have been compromised by sweating, towel drying and friction. Remember too that you’ll feel artificially cool due to the water on your skin. • Don’t use expired sunscreen. Even sunscreen still in date may be much less effective if it’s been allowed to get hot or sit in direct sunlight.
Remember: • The BAD warns that water can increase the sun’s radiation by 5%, and sand by 17%. • The sensitive skin of babies and children need extra protection. “Damage caused by repeated exposure to sunlight could lead to skin

Heatstroke
Heatstroke starts with heat exhaustion. Symptoms can include headache, dizziness and confusion, appetite loss, feeling sick, excessive sweating, pale clammy skin, cramps in the arms, legs and stomach, fast breathing or pulse, a temperature of 37C or above and intense thirst. If someone is suffering from heatstroke, you must lie them down, raise their feet and cool them down by providing cold drinks, removing unnecessary clothing and placing them in the shade. Call 999 if the person is no better after 30 minutes or if they feel hot and dry, have a temperature of 40C or above, are breathless or breathing rapidly, are confused, lose consciousness or have a seizure. To avoid heatstroke, stay hydrated, keep your head covered and rest in the shade when the sun is hottest. Jet Lag and Joy Lag
HOW TO RECOVER FROM YOUR HOLIDAY
We look forward to holidays as a chance to relax and revitalise ourselves. So why do we sometimes feel exhausted and miserable when we return – and how can we stop it happening? Jet Lag What exactly is jet lag? Jet lag is a term for symptoms caused by travel to a different time-zone, which can disrupt your ‘body clock’ - your natural, circadian rhythm. This influences your sleep, eating and toileting patterns as well as digestion, temperature and blood pressure. Jet lag symptoms include changed bowel habits, tiredness, headache, anxiety, confusion and nausea. Their severity usually increases with age but primarily depends on how many time zones you cross. One or two? No problem. Three to six? You’ll feel the effects. Seven to twelve? You may need a few days to fully adapt, particularly when travelling east; ‘west is best, east is a beast’, probably because it’s easier to adapt to a longer day and delay sleep than make yourself sleep after a shorter day.
Reducing Jet Lag Jet lag can be inconvenient at the start of your holiday, but it’s not usually a problem because you’re on holiday. When you return, though, you may not have long to adapt before you’re back at work and in your usual routine. While you can’t prevent jet lag, there are ways to help reduce its effects. • If possible, start gradually changing your routine several days before departure so that it’s closer to that of the new time zone. • Ensure you’re well-rested and hydrated before and during your flight. • Nap on the plane if night time will be a long time away when you arrive (or if it will be dawn). If you want to stay awake, keep active (this is recommended for long flights anyway, to reduce the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis). • Avoid alcohol, which will dehydrate you and may increase jet lag symptoms. Remember that caffeinated drinks (e.g. tea, coffee and cola) may keep you awake. • When you arrive, adjust your day to the new time immediately rather than working up to it gradually. If you can, resist napping on arrival unless it’s night time. • While the NHS recommends going outside soon after arrival if it’s daylight, Dr Idzikowski, director of Edinburgh Sleep Centre, recommends using the calculator he created to tell you when to seek out or avoid daylight to reset your bodyclock, at www.ba.com/jetlag. Of course, you could always break your trip with a stopover or only holiday in countries with similar time zones: Western Europe, Greenland, Ghana – or parts of Antarctica.

Joy Lag (Post-Holiday Blues and Exhaustion)
It’s not uncommon to get back from your holiday and feel glum and exhausted. The weather is often more miserable at home and there’s no holiday to look forward to anymore. The thought of returning to your work and responsibilities (particularly if you’re not happy with them) can be daunting – as can that huge pile of holiday laundry. If you left in a rush and have been away for a while, your house may look untidy and dusty, making it hard to relax. Perhaps you overdid it on holiday, too, packing in too many activities and trips, not getting enough sleep and overindulging in alcohol and unhealthy foods.
Reducing Joy Lag These tips can’t make your overjoyed to return from holiday – they’re not magic! But they will help to reduce your joy lag. Before your holiday, try to pack gradually. For instance, if there’s only a week before your holiday and you have more than a week’s worth of socks and underwear, grab a suitcase and pack those spares now. Avoiding last minute panics, such as turning the house upside down for passports and sunglasses, should prevent you coming back to a mess. If you can afford it, book a treat to look forward to a few weeks post-holiday. Ensure you have easy meals in stock for your return and if you can, book a day or two off after your holiday to adjust. During your holiday, ensure you don’t cram every moment with trips or organised activities. Everyone needs time to chill. Shortlist trips, check the weather forecast and any special events and then plan the best days to venture elsewhere. Reserve the other days for relaxation, games or a gentle walk to a local park, beach or restaurant. If you can, try to make the journey home as fun and relaxing as possible. Perhaps you could break your journey at a restaurant, or even a hotel – doing the final run home on a full holiday breakfast. After your holiday, be kind to yourself. Cook easy meals or, if you can afford it, treat yourself to a meal out or a takeaway. Conversely, though, head for the washing machine as soon as you’re in the door and put a load in to wash. It will only take a minute or two and you’ll know you’ve made a start. Put suitcases out of sight until they’re empty. Here’s wishing you reduced jet lag, reduced joy lag and Happy Holidays!

Back Pain
The Chartered Society of physiotherapy has recently released some interesting finds about back pain. The fact is most caused of back pain are not particularly serious and can be managed by keeping mobile and continuing with your day to day activities to prevent future episodes. The article lists 10 things you need to know about your back: 1. Your back is stronger than you may think. Most people worldwide will experience back pain during their lifetime. It can be disabling and worrying but it is very common and rarely dangerous, 2. You rarely need a scan and it can do more harm than good. This is because seeing perfectly normal changes to their spine can cause people to avoid the activities they should be doing to get better, such as exercise and movement in general. 3. Avoid bedrest, stay in work and gradually resume normal activities. Scientific studies now indicate prolonged rest and avoidance of activity for people with low back pain actually leads to higher levels of pain, greater disability, poorer recovery and longer absence from work. 4. You should not fear bending or lifting. Bending and lifting are often portrayed as causes of back pain and while an injury can occur if something is picked up in an awkward or unaccustomed way, it’s most likely to just be a sprain or strain.
5. Exercise and activity reduce and prevent back pain. Exercise is shown to be very helpful for tackling back pain and is also the most effective strategy to prevent future episodes. 6. Painkillers will not speed up your recovery. There is no strong evidence on the benefits of painkillers and they do not speed up recovery but can help to control your pain. 7. Surgery is rarely needed. There are some uncommon back conditions where there is pressure on the nerves that supply the legs and the patient gets leg symptoms, such as pain pins and needles or numbness and the majority of these condition have the ability to resolve. 8. Get good quality sleep. The importance of sleep in tackling back pain has become increasingly clear in recent years. So a good mattress is useful. 9. You can have back pain without any damage or injury. Many factors can cause back pain and often a combination of these are involves. 10. If it doesn’t clear up, seek help but don’t worry. If your back pain does not clear up after 6-8 weeks, make an appointment to see your physiotherapist. At SB Sports Injury & Physiotherapy Clinic we regularly treat all manner of back pain so if you would like to contact us to see if we can help or to book an appointment please call 01952 462330 or email admin@shropshirephysio.co.uk.

Are You Financially Resilient?
5 WAYS TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM UNEXPECTED JOB LOSS
The reality of sudden job loss hit thousands of people in every region of the UK during the global financial crash, and although the economy is now recovering, the fact that we could suddenly lose our only source of income hasn’t gone away. If that time of financial crisis has taught us anything, it’s that we should prepare in advance for unexpected loss of income a report from Legal and General* illustrates just how precarious our financial position really is: “the average household has a Deadline to the Breadline of just 29 days. For working age families it’s just 14 days.” The report also found that: • People believed they could survive more than twice as long (77 days on average) compared to the reality of 29 days. • 35% of households have no savings, so for these people their ‘Deadline to the Breadline’ could be tomorrow. Preparing in advance for potential job loss is crucial to survive, so here are five steps that will help you become more financially resilient should the worst happen and you find yourself without an income. 1. Understand your current financial position Only by understanding the reality of your present financial situation can sustainable changes be made. Gather together all your financial documents including bank and credit card statements, loan and credit agreements, and details of your monthly expenditure, to get a clearer picture of how job loss would affect you. Then you can make a budget to help you plan your spending each month, and live within your means. A variety of budget sheets are available online, and you should include every item of expenditure from cups of coffee to the annual holiday you’ll get a better idea of whether you’re spending more than you earn over the course of a year. 2. Prioritise and pay down debt If you consider the consequences of failing to make each debt repayment, it’ll help you decide which should take priority over others. At its simplest, paying your mortgage and energy bills will keep a roof over your head, and a warm home. Even though priority debts aren’t always the largest or most expensive, they should be paid first if the repercussions of nonpayment are serious. After that you could tackle the debts with the highest interest rates, although some people prefer to pay off the smallest loans first to provide motivation. 3. Save for an emergency fund Do you pay off debt first, or save for an emergency fund? There are two schools of thought: • The disparity between interest rates for savers and borrowers means you’ll pay more overall if you don’t repay debt first.
If you can manage your monthly credit card bills for a while, you could compromise by saving three or four months’ worth of living expenses in a separate account that won’t be touched, and then return to paying down any debt. 4. Additional income streams With so many people earning an additional income online, it may be worthwhile starting a small part-time business which would help financially if you lose your main source of income. Having a second income takes away some of the immediate pressure of job loss, even if it only covers your bills for a couple of months. If it’s flexible enough you’ll be able to work from home, and obtain the peace of mind that self-reliance brings. Popular ‘side incomes’ include selling unwanted goods on eBay and Amazon, and using the profits to buy more stock. Even completing online surveys and questionnaires can bring in a small monthly amount, or provide vouchers that save you money on shopping. . lternatively, consider using your current skills to find work on A one of the UK freelancer platforms, such as People Per Hour. Some businesses are continually looking for skilled people to take on ad-hoc work, as well as longer-term projects - it cuts down their costs of employment and offers flexible work for you. 5. Network while you’re still employed It does no harm to network online or in-person while you’re still employed. Creating and nurturing professional and business relationships can mean you’re first in the queue for a new role or business opportunity should you lose your job. Use your network of friends and peers on LinkedIn and Facebook, and keep updating your profile with information about new tasks you’re taking on in your current role. Blending this with in-person networking where you get to know people better means you can find out about new projects or another company’s plans for the future. Putting a strategy in place for unexpected job loss allows you more time and freedom to choose your next move, whether that’s with another firm or entering self-employment.
• If you lose your job, the credit card provider may decide to by Ann Haldon reduce your credit limit, and you’ll have less money available for emergencies. Another factor to consider is the * www.legalandgeneral.com/advisercentre/campaigns/deadline-to-breadline-bp/report.html increase in identity theft that also leaves you open www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22283940 to potential problems, and again could reduce www.moneycrashers.com/prepare-finances-survive-unemployment-job-loss/ your access to cash when you need it most.

Using Credit and Debit Cards
ABROAD THIS YEAR
What you should know before you go!
Spending money abroad can be costlier than you think if you’re not prepared for the fees and ‘hidden’ charges. Whether you choose to take a debit or credit card, it pays to check the small print in your terms and conditions before you go. You could save a considerable amount in added interest and charges, potentially including: • An extra fee added to the currency exchange rate, known as a non-sterling transaction fee – this can be as much as 3% of each transaction. • Fees for withdrawing cash from ATMs abroad – although many people are aware of this fee when using a credit card, some banks also charge a cash withdrawal fee for debit cards. • Credit card companies can charge interest on cash withdrawn abroad, even if the balance is repaid in full at the end of the month. • Certain debit card providers charge a fee for shopping with their debit card abroad, so if there is no alternative, it can be cheaper to withdraw cash instead. With that in mind, here are a few tips on using credit and debit cards abroad, so you can save money and maximise your holiday spend. Specialist credit and debit cards for overseas use only Rather than taking your ‘regular’ credit or debit card on holiday, look for specialist cards designed to be used abroad, as these are intended to reduce the cost of holiday spending. If you find one that’s suitable and your application is successful, however, just make sure you pay off the balance in full every month. The interest rates on these cards are extremely high if you don’t, which could wipe out any savings you’ve made. The best overseas credit cards generally offer much better exchange rates than local retailers. So if you use a credit card and you’re asked which currency you want pay in, choose the local currency as it’s likely to save you money – more on Dynamic Currency Conversion below. Credit cards for holiday spending are generally easier to obtain than debit cards If your current bank doesn’t offer a specialist debit card for use abroad, you may have to switch your bank account to obtain one. Alternatively, you could just open a new account with the provider, but this might seem a little unnecessary when there is an easier alternative in credit cards. Be careful when you apply for a new card though - your credit file is adversely affected when applications are refused. The Money Saving Expert website offers an ‘eligibility calculator’ to give you an idea of your chances of acceptance, and help you narrow down the choices.
Debit cards can be better if you’re going to withdraw mainly cash Although taking a dedicated credit card for use abroad has many benefits, if you intend to withdraw mainly cash, a specialist debit card will probably be cheaper overall as there are usually no added charges or fees for this. Be careful about card ‘cloning’ When you use a card abroad, or anywhere in fact, be aware of the danger of cloning. This can happen when the card is taken out of your sight, or even when it’s right in front of you if you aren’t taking notice. When a card is cloned the person taking payment swipes it through a small device that looks like a pager - because this device is so small, it could be attached to a belt or placed in their pocket. It’s easy, therefore, to steal the information on the card’s magnetic strip. Your details are then imprinted onto a brand new card, or overwritten onto a card that’s already been stolen. Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) Some retailers abroad will offer to convert your purchase into sterling when you pay by card, so you can see exactly how much you’ve spent. This process is called dynamic currency conversion, or cardholder preferred currency. The problem is that you’ll probably lose out on the exchange rate by paying this way. Local retailers choose whether or not to offer this service, and in some cases may automatically convert your purchase to sterling without asking you. It’s a good idea, therefore, to check whether DCC has been used prior to signing a payment slip or entering your PIN. Avoiding the non-sterling transaction fee Although your bank uses the MasterCard, Visa and Amex optimum exchange rates, the charge for conversion adds a nonsterling transaction fee of up to 3% to your bill when you use a non-specialist card abroad. Finding the best card may take a little research, but your time and effort will be repaid via the extra holiday treats you’ll be able to enjoy.
Credit cards offer consumer protection
www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/travel-credit-cards
When you buy a product or service between £100 and £30,000 using your credit card, you’re automatically entitled to consumer protection. Under Section 75 legislation, your credit card provider accepts equal responsibility with the retailer for the item(s) purchased, making it easier to obtain a refund if necessary – an important consideration when you’ve bought the item abroad.

Who would look after your children… My nephew was kept awake recently wondering what would happen to him and his sister should his parents die during his childhood. Who would he live with and who would look after him? I told him that they would come and live me and he was reassured. In order to make sure this would happen, however, his parents would need to include a provision in their Wills to appoint me as Legal Guardian. The appointment of a Legal Guardian is best dealt with by way of provision in a Will because a Will is less likely to be overlooked or lost if both parents have died. At Parry Carver we offer a free Will Storage facility. My nephew’s anxiety kept me awake the following night and I was further unnerved when I saw an article, originally published by The Telegraph, entitled “Who will look after your children if you die? Strangers?” The author of the article had obtained statistics to show that over 24,000 children are bereaved of a parent each year. If both parents died without legally appointing a guardian
for their children they risk exposing their children to extra stress, anxiety, uncertainty and turmoil at what would be an already extremely difficult time for them. Not only that, but it also exposes the entire extended family to needless stress and argument, trying to second guess who the appointed Guardian should be, and can escalate to court. If you are concerned about whom to appoint as Legal Guardian then ask your children if they are old enough; they might have their own views about what they would like to happen if you passed away. My eldest daughter is now a teenager with her own ideas as to where she might live if mummy and daddy passed away during her childhood. When you have chosen your Legal Guardian do remember to consult with them ahead of the appointment and seek their agreement. Raising a child is a difficult prospect and you need a Guardian who is fully on board. Straight forward Wills are not expensive and bring peace of mind not only to you but to your children too. If you would like information about making your Will please contact Toni Laycock or Joyce Anderson at Parry Carver for a free estimate on 01952 641291.
Free Will Writing Service Parry Carver Solicitors are supporting Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s Free Will Writing Service, which is available for those aged 55 and over. Come and Try Singing Ladies Severn Harmony is an a capella group which sings in four part harmony. They are the only ladies chorus in the area that specialises in the Barbershop style. They meet most Monday evenings, 7:30pm at Wellington Methodist church. None of the stripy waistcoat and boater stereotype though! With a repertoire which draws inspiration from contemporary pop and songs from musical theatre, they are led by an exceptionally qualified and talented Musical Director – Monica Funnell, a four times Barbershop gold medallist! Under her direction, they aim for high musical standards, but have lots of fun along the way! Severn Harmony is a fabulous friendly group of musical ladies, with a real underlying care for each other, and a strong sense of teamwork. We

have no backing tracks or accompaniment to perform with, so it's important to have a good ear to be able to hold your own part but you don’t need to be able to read music. Everyone is committed to getting it right. We learn how to improve our own technique alongside our group sound. And we’ve all heard of the health benefits of singing. If you're a singer who would relish the challenge of four part harmony singing in a more animated style than some more traditional choirs, then this could be the group for you. We have regular “taster” sessions – usually the last Monday of the month – where you can come along and have a go with no strings attached. This is a good way for you to see what we’re about and hear our sound. A warm welcome awaits you but please let us know if you plan to come along. The Stars
OF THE NEW YORK MOTOR SHOW
It may be held in the city that never sleeps, but walk around the New York Motor Show’s tiny halls and very soon you may be in danger of drifting off. Thrilling and packed with big reveals this event was not, however, there were still a few new car unveils that could stave off unintentional narcolepsy – for a few minutes at least. Just like the country’s president, it’s a show that likes to flex its muscles, posture a little, but under the surface has very little real substance – and it’s dominated by the American manufacturers. Despite that, we managed to muscle our way past the smelly hot dog stalls and copious coffee shops to find six new models that caught our eye.
Mercedes AMG GLC 63 & GLC 63 Coupe
The only real European manufacturer to take the New York event seriously, Mercedes took the wraps off the car it’s billing as ‘perfectly at home off road or on the race track’. Featuring a 4.0-litre V8 with either 469bhp in standard guise, or 503bhp in ‘S’ trim, it’s an SUV capable of hitting 60mph in just 3.9 seconds. With a top speed of 155mph, the Germans say it’s a super sporty car with ‘everyday usability’. Prices are expected to start at around £65,000 with first deliveries in October.
Jaguar F-Type 2.0-litre
What’s that, a tiny 2.0-litre four cylinder in a hairy-chested sports car? It is indeed, but before you dismiss it out of hand, know this: small in cubic capacity it may be, but it’s still pushing out a not-so-weedy 296bhp. There’ll still be many that sneer in the face of such a diminutive lump making its way into Jaguar’s flagship, but the firm hope a 0-60mph time of 5.4 seconds, 155mph top speed and a 52kg weight reduction will be enough to see them temper their scowls. It’ll also bring the entry level price of an F-Type to £100 under £50k.
Dodge SRT Challenger Demon
Angry name? Check. Muscle car looks? Roger. Ridiculous and quite possibly unusable power output? Oh yes. Meet the 840bhp, Dodge SRT Challenger Demon – a car with so much horsepower that it can pull record-breaking wheelies. The 6.2-litre HEMI-engined monster uses the Hellcat’s 707bhp lump and adds a bigger supercharger and increased boost pressure to result in an animal that can hit 60mph in just 2.3 seconds. If that claim turns out to be true, it’ll put it on a par with a Bugatti Chiron. Bonkers.
Infiniti QX80
While the luxury arm of Nissan might be having a hard time in the UK, in the States it’s really rather successful – so much so that the brand feels a Range Rover rivalling concept is a good idea. The Infiniti QX80 Monograph is currently billed as a ‘design study’, but the manufacturer says it signals its intent to enter the large SUV segment. Whether it’ll be made remains to be seen, but even if it does, the chances of you ever seeing one in the UK is really rather slim.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk
In the seemingly ever-raging battle to produce the world’s most powerful SUV, Jeep has made a bold claim for the title with this – the 707bhp Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Quite why it’s a title any manufacturer wishes to secure is beyond us, but the Americans have snapped it up nonetheless. Capable of 60mph in 3.5 seconds, a top speed of 180mph and a standing quarter mile in 11.6 seconds, this might just be a Jeep Cherokee that’s mildly acceptable to own.
Toyota FT-4X
Remember the days when you threw a shoebox full of Lego on the living floor and attempted to make something that resembled a car? Well, that appears to be exactly how Toyota’s designers created their latest FT-4X concept car. Half grown-up Tonka toy, half fridge freezer, the offroader’s looks can kindly be described as ‘bold’. The maker says it hints at what the replacement for its equally visually-challenging, American-only FJ Cruiser could look like, if it ever gets the nod. by James Baggott

Prague
GOLDEN CITY OF BOHEMIA
On a majestic loop of the Vltava river, the ‘Golden City of Bohemia’ greets you with a touch of Venetian charm. Islands, bridges, canals, swans gliding along the banks, traditional steamers and tourist boats, it’s a romantic place where water tumbles over the weir and spires and domes mingle their reflections from morning to night. Whatever the season, the Vltava mirrors the mood of the sky, as meek as a lamb or impatient and wild, but along the banks life moves at a leisurely pace and there’s always plenty of time to enjoy a candle-lit dinner at the water’s edge or stroll under the bridges. For in the Czech capital, every bridge has a story to tell, none more so than the Charles bridge with its foundation stone laid at the auspicious time of 5.31am on 9th July 1357. Today Prague’s best loved icon still spans the river for over 500 metres, guarded by 30 statues of saints sculpted by famous Bohemian artists. For locals and visitors alike, it’s the heart of town: the place to see and be seen, watch the artists painting the scene, listen to music and enjoy the sunset when the river shimmers like gold. For 450 years it was the only bridge across the river, but others followed, linking the town on the right bank to the castle district on the left. On the hill top, beyond the luminous vineyards, so unexpected in a city, the UNESCO castle rises proud and strong, once the residence of the kings of Bohemia
68
and still housing the presidential offices. It’s a vast complex with an enticing maze of towers and gates, museums, galleries and quaint medieval cottages strung along the Golden Lane. At the heart of it all is St Vitus cathedral where the crown jewels are kept under seven locks and keys. Not so far away is the Lesser District with its parklands and mini Eiffel Tower, but across the river the Old Town begs to be explored, an eclectic mix of styles from Renaissance and Baroque to Rococo, Art Nouveau and more. It’s an open book in the history of art but sooner or later the Old Town Square holds you spellbound. Horse-drawn carriages rattle on the flagstones, bustling café terraces serve goulash, potato pancake and desserts doused in butter and cream, flowers bloom all around and crowds gather by the astronomical clock to watch the figurines come out to mark the passing of time. Others stroll under the arcades or wander in the lanes in search of Bohemian glassware, porcelain, colourful textiles or garnet, the traditional Czech stone. The more energetic climb to the top of the town hall tower to gaze in wonder at the most fabulous views over the fabled ‘City of 100 Spires’ and the river wandering through its myriad treasures on the way to the Elbe. According to legend, a Bohemian princess once dreamed of a city whose fame would reach the stars as it flourished on the banks of the Vltava. Perhaps this is why the ever-changing river has inspired so many writers and artists, including the 19th century Czech composer Smetana who dedicated a Symphonic Poem to its journey across the land. He called it ‘Ma Vlast’, my homeland, and today, with its unrivalled heritage and convivial ambience, Prague, its capital, is one of the most visited cities in Europe.

Motoring You may think the Kia Picanto is the car most likely to be driven by your grannie, and you’d be right. But now the manufacturer is looking to ditch that blue rinse image and target a younger age group with its suitably spiced up city car. Designed to attract youthful buyers, the refreshed model teams sporty looks with a more focused driving style to woo young professionals to part with their cash. But are the tweaks enough? Looks and image
Well, there’s no doubt Kia has worked hard to liven things up. There’s an extended ‘tiger nose’ grille, the likes of which we’ve seen spread across the maker’s range, smart LED driving lights and a large air intake at the front. Double wheel arches add some flair at the sides, while a ‘shark’ antenna – which initially made an appearance on BMWs – has filtered down to the city car segment for the first time. What’s more, for added sportiness, the GT-Line specification gets some random red trim – because nothing says sporty like added red inserts – and a twin-tipped exhaust. Kia even went as far as describing the new design as ‘sexy’ in their launch presentation. Perhaps our definition of sexy is slightly at odds with Kia’s, but we get what they’re trying to achieve. Sort of.
Space and practicality
The Picanto is Kia’s second best-selling model in the UK after the Sportage, so the third generation model has huge weight on its shoulders to perform. Predominantly bought as a second car by more mature buyers, Kia thinks the new technology – like wireless charging for your mobile, parking camera and Apple CarPlay – will tempt younger, first time car buyers into dealers. At just 3.6-metres (the same as its predecessor) Kia has managed to eke out a little more cabin space by increasing the wheelbase and reducing the front overhang, but you’re still going to wish your legs were foldable if you’re sat in the back. Up front you’ll sit shoulder to shoulder with your passenger, but there’s ample leg room and the driving position is comfortable. Autonomous emergency braking – which warns, then stops you, if it senses a crash – as well as a smart torque vectoring system that improves handling by braking individual wheels are also available.
What’s under the bonnet?
Three engine options are offered: a 1.0-litre, 67bhp, 89g/km, three-cylinder; a 1.2-litre, 84bhp, 104g/km four-cylinder; and a 1.0-litre turbo charged, 100bhp version of the three cylinder. Sadly we didn’t get the chance to try the latter – that one will be arriving later – but with a promise of 60mph in 10 seconds, it should be a riot. Both the 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre are punchy little units and more than adequately powered to push the Picanto along with little drama. Our pick – but only just – would be the 1.2-litre which hits 60mph in 12 seconds, tops out at 107mph and returns 61.4mpg. It’s mildly spicier than the entry-level option and just a tad more fun. Manual and automatic options are available across the range.

KIA PICANTO
Behind the wheel
It’s behind the wheel where the Picanto will divide opinion. Older buyers looking for a relaxed and comfortable ride will notice the improved suspension and the capable way it deals with nasty, pot-holed road surfaces. However, the sprightly engines, quicker turn in and faster steering may make them feel a little too hurried behind the wheel. It’s these very characteristics that Kia is hoping younger buyers will appreciate. The juxtaposition of characteristics is a trait of a car designed for a global market, where different regions want different things. In the UK you may be more likely to find a Picanto in the Bridge club car park, but in southern Europe it’ll be left abandoned outside nightclubs while its owners party the night away. Overall there’s a noticeable improvement in both ride and handling, largely thanks to reduced weight and a stiffer body, but whether that’s suitable for you will depend on your driving style.
Value for money
As this was an early test of a left-hand drive model there were few details as to what options will feature on UK models. At the time, Kia’s UK boss explained each market is given a menu to pick from and said his team was working on refining what they’ll take. We do know that this will follow the conventional Kia strategy of one, two, and three levels of specification and that the GT-Line, driven here, will slot between two and three. In the GT-Line model we tried at the Spanish launch, a seveninch media screen, wireless charging for mobiles, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay all featured, along with a heated steering wheel and seats, climate control and electric windows and mirrors.
Verdict
There’s no doubt the improvements Kia has made to the third generation Picanto have sharpened up its looks and driving dynamics. In titanium silver or shiny red it’s striking to look at too, and will likely attract those younger buyers who demand cool technology, like Apple CarPlay. However, whether these tweaks come at the expense of putting off the stalwart Picanto buyer – buyers who’d sooner learn Russian than work out what on earth torque vectoring is – remains to be seen. Kia is confident it’s got the mix right, though, and is promising ‘modest price rises’ over the current range. We were told the entry level model will be no more than £9,000 and the top of the range no more than £14,000. That said, the well-known formula has been meddled with and with that comes risk – only time will tell if the gamble will pay off.

Plan Your Car Hire
THIS SUMMER
Wherever you holiday, having your own transport can add an extra dimension to your exploring, rather than having to rely on excursions offered by your hotel or travel company. Even if your break is in the UK, hiring can ease the journey there too. A couple of years ago we caught the train to Cornwall; speeding by all the traffic jams was very satisfying and when we reached Penzance we hired a car and continued our journey.
But if you haven’t hired a car in a while be aware that, since the abolition of the green paper part of the driving licence, in order to hire a vehicle you will now need to obtain a ‘check code’ from the DLVA website (www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence). You give the hire company this code to allow them to access your driving licence information. These codes can only be used once, are valid for 21 days and are only for use with licences issued within the UK. If hiring abroad, check that these codes are valid in that country or if your photo ID licence alone is sufficient. If not, you may need an international driving permit too.
Italian Job: “Remember they drive on the wrong side of the road” (well, the right side actually). Joking aside, I found that once on the highway things were easy; it was at junctions and roundabouts that things got tricky. Oh, and I lost count of times I tried to change gear with the door handle! Enjoy your holiday motoring and have a safe trip there.

Notes from your local Ironbridge Gorge Councillor Uniper Technologies Limited proposes to demolish Conveyors 6 and 7 and the accompanying Conveyor Tower of the former Ironbridge Power Station. The site is nearing completion of decommissioning and full demolition of the site is expected to commence in 2018 subject to Shropshire Council approval as the designated local planning authority. The demolition and foundation removal of the structures is required to appropriately isolate and safeguard the area, permitting safe demolition of the remaining power station site at a later date. However, this is in advance of the main demolition phase which is subject to a current EIA Screening process. This marks the start of fascinating process for the former Ironbridge power station, as it begins its transformation that will determine the future for this strategic site. It is vital that the World Heritage Site is considered as part of the demolition phase and for future use proposals, to ensure that the demolition does not adversely impact our local communities. In May of this year the Aga-Rayburn Factory announced that a decision had been taken to cease the manufacture of castings at Coalbrookdale and close this facility on one of the original foundry sites that has been operating for over 300 years. I shall be working closely with AGA and the local community site to mitigate the impacts of this closure and ensure we obtain a use that not only protects and enhances the foundry’s industrial heritage, but that realises our aspirations for the future.

The Great Beyond TECH TOOLS TO HELP YOU WHEREVER YOU MAY ROAM Whether you’re hiking up mountains or just trying to get around Glastonbury, travelling can be made much easier with a few well-chosen gadgets - and some of the available options might surprise you. Fancy a hairgrip that doubles as a saw? Such things exist: the Monkey Business Multi-Tool Hairgrip (around £8.50) comes in stainless steel and is shaped to include a little wrench, screwdriver, cutter and ruler as well as being a hair grip. You can also use it in shopping trolleys instead of coins, although that only applies to pre-2017 ones: the new twelve-sided pound coin has sadly made most trolley coins redundant. Fancy something a bit sturdier? Since the wonderful Leatherman became a global hit, there’s been no shortage of multi-tools that attempt to provide everything you could possibly need in a single gadget. If you have Leatherman ambitions but not the accompanying budget, you’ll find cheaper options from the likes of supermarket favourite Rolson, whose 36019 multi-tool offers 12 stainless steel tools for £13.41. Just don’t take it anywhere you’re not allowed blades, such as airports. If you’d rather have something a little more high tech, the world of wearables continues to grow: for example TomTom’s Runner watches combine activity tracking with GPS for around £59, and there are even GPS-enabled trackers for kids such as the Witmoving Wrist Watch, which is available for around £19. The benefit of such kids’ watches is that they enable a lost child to press the SOS button to call a parent or guardian, and the companion app can tell you exactly where the child is if they wander off. Just be aware that anything that uses a phone SIM, such as the Witmoving watch, will need a data contract: a pay as you go deal from the likes of budget operator Giffgaff, which uses O2’s network, offers reliable coverage for a low price. You can spend much more on a fully-featured smartwatch that does pretty much everything, but for now if it’s pure activity tracking you’re looking for, a running watch such as the TomTom is a better and cheaper option. Chances are that wherever you’re going, you’ll want to keep your phone charged - and if you’re far from a plug socket that isn’t always easy. The most effective portable chargers, such as the Anker PowerCore 13000 (around £24), are designed to be charged at home and then used when your phone battery runs out of puff, and they boast a range of features to charge quickly and to turn off the power when the battery’s full. They’re a little bulky compared to emergency phone chargers, which tend to give you just enough power to make a few calls, but they’re good for multiple full charges. Solar chargers are more environmentally friendly - at least, after they’ve been manufactured - and they can be quite cheap: Amazon currently lists a number of decent 10000mAh solar chargers for around £15, some of which can charge multiple devices simultaneously and double as LED flashlights. Be aware that such chargers only use solar energy as a backup: like other portable chargers they’ve got a great big battery inside them that you’re expected to charge before you go out and about. The panel is there for peace of mind should your adventure last longer than expected, but in the British summer don’t expect a full charge to happen very quickly.

Take some... Traditional values and service Established in 2003, The Kitchen Depot is a family-owned and run business that remains true to our founding values of honesty, integrity and sheer professionalism. We take immense pride in our reputation for service and commitment to our customers, with more than half of our business coming from customer recommendations to their family and friends.
...add a dash of… Quality and Value
All of our kitchens are manufactured to an exceptionally high German specification, on site, in our own factory and by our own people. That way, we have total control over the product quality, the production timescales AND the manufacturing costs. With no middle-man – you buy direct and we are able to pass these time and cost savings directly onto our customers.
…then a big chunk of…
Ownership and Responsibility
Unusual in this insincere world, admittedly. But we mean it. We are totally committed to providing you with the best kitchen, at the best price, installed with the highest level of service and professionalism. And on the exceptionally rare occasion that something could have been done better – we hold our hands up – and put it right. Fast. No fuss. No hassle. No argument. Just sorted.
...a soupçon of…Harmony At The Kitchen Depot, we know that we are only as good as our people. They ARE The Kitchen Depot brand. That’s why we look after our staff every bit as well as we look after our customers. Because we know that happy workers, pulling together in harmony, make for happy customers.
