5 Struggles Only Nurses Understand Being a nurse comes with struggles other professions simply wouldn't understand. Things you have to deal with on a daily basis would make many cringe. Having the responsibilities that you have and dealing with unpredictable situations should get you an award. Nursing is a tough profession that is often overlooked and there are others out there who feel the same way. Here are a few struggles you may have that all nurses can probably agree on: 1. Nursing School No one can prepare you for how nursing school will change your life. The amount of information that you have to retain is immense. The struggles of nursing school is just the beginning of an emotional life as a nurse. Nursing programs are strict, harsh, and more challenging than the average program. They can also be expensive and hard to get into. If you can deal with the pressure of being graded subjectively, you may have the willpower to get through nursing school. Know that you will not be as prepared as you think you are when you finish your program. 2. Legal Responsibility As a nurse, you have legal liability to make sure that you are following not only the laws of medicine, but the rules established by government. This can often be a moral gray area that may get a little confusing. By not paying attention, you can end up losing your license. Covering yourself and your actions are super important. Remembering all of this information, on top of the actual information you need on the job can be overwhelming. 3. It is Gross Naturally, you will do some things that others could not possibly imagine doing. Patients can need simple procedures that the doctors do not have time for. That being said, they have to do these things, which can be pretty icky. However, that is part of the job, and it is not a big deal once you just do it. 4. The Hours The hours you have to work are just crazy. The middle of the night to eleven in the morning, patients are counting on you to take care of them. Even if you are in the midst of an outstanding dinner, you may have to leave for one of them.

That phone call always threatens your free time. Having a life and working as a nurse is difficult, and if you do not love it, it can be hard to keep up. 5. You Get Attached There is going to be a time where one of your patients is going to tug at your heartstrings and become important to you. When dealing with sick people, it can be hard to see them going through their illness. If they are dying, it can be even more upsetting. You are obviously going to care for all of your patients. However, it is likely you are going to deal with it sooner or later.

Being a nurse is not an easy job like many think. You go through a lot and have to deal with some less than ideal situations. Regardless of these quandaries, nursing is a fulfilling and commendable career. Chances are, you love what you do and would not have it any other way.
