Top 10 Tips to Start Your Semester Off Right A lot might be happening in your life from new classes, friends, exams and more. If you have been unable to cope up with the pressure of moving from high school to college, and were not able to keep up with your grades, don’t fret as you can always start off the new semester the right way. 1. Get to know your professors One of the most important resources a student can use, is their professors. Start your semester by creating a good relationship with them. Take every opportunity to interact with them and to understand their mentality. Teachers and professors often appreciate students’ interest, and can help make a difference in your final grades. 2. Sit in the front While most students dread sitting in the front, braving this area often comes with a lot of perks. When sitting in the front, you need to pay attention to what the professor is teaching, and participate actively in class interactions. You can’t think about sleeping right under the professor’s nose, can you? 3. Organize your notes Organizing notes from the first day of the semester will prove extremely helpful throughout. With the advent of technology, note-taking has evolved in the laptop, smartphone and tablet. So, even if you are not carrying a notebook to class, apps such as Notability and Evernote can be accessed from most devices. 4. Join a club During the beginning of a semester, organizations and clubs recruit members frequently. This is your chance to become a part of one, and to be surrounded by like-minded individuals. Networking should be encouraged, organization participation often facilitates this. 5. Create your own list Create goals and allow them to evolve over time. This would be a checklist of signposts or markers you hope to achieve. Put this list behind your bed, or somewhere you will see it on a daily basis. 6. Eat healthy


Eating healthy isn't easy, especially for a college student, often grabbing the quickest, greasiest option in the fifteen short minutes you have between classes. However, developing the right eating habits is the best way to stay energetic throughout the day. Eating healthy before class always has unforeseen benefits. 7. Take Breaks Long study sessions can mentally exhaust you. Therefore, it is important to take small frequent breaks to retain information. Make sure you have a study plan prepared beforehand, and remain committed to it. Taking five minutes for every thirty in a study session, will increase productivity and retention. 8. Utilize quiet space If you are not comfortable studying at your apartment or dorm, search for quiet spaces found around campus. These places will help you concentrate on your studies, without the temptation of Xbox or Netflix. Find these places early on in the semester, that way you can take advantage of them, when you need them most. 9. Manage your time College life consists of studying, socializing, and partying. It is important to manage your time between all of these activities. Studying is important, but so is socializing and being an active part of the school. Try and disperse your time evenly across these activities to ensure a fulfilling college experience. 10. Take care of your health The most important step is taking your health seriously. With an evolving schedule, try to maintain an informed sleep schedule. Getting the required amount of sleep per night will be prove indispensable in achieving success. Be smart, and treat this endeavor with an increased sense of responsibility. This is a new beginning for you, and it's important to start off on the right foot.
