s this winter has seemed to drag on and on, I am super excited for this issue - filled with everything spring!

41. No matter what your skin tone, our beauty editors have put together the best makeup looks for every bride (page 47).

I’ve always had a fascination with mythology, gods, goddesses and religion. So when my team and I decided to do a goddess-inspired fashion shoot, I was in heaven (almost literally)! Almost every culture/religion pays tribute to its own unique divine beings and this seemed like a great way to combine the etherealness of wedding gowns with the beauty of a culturally themed archaeological museum, (page 57).

A giant sphinx, hieroglyphs, columnswe’re going back in time to ancient Egypt with our ‘Clearly in Love’ reception shoot (page 108). Once you’re done exploring Egypt, exit in style, whether it be by ski lift, ice cream truck or one of the other modes of transportation in ‘Unique Getaway Ideas’ on page 127.

In our fashion section, we give you the rundown of some of the hottest trends for spring straight from the runway of Bridal Fashion Week, (page 30). And let’s not leave out the grooms, with our ‘This One’s for the Boys’ (page 42). With the array of veils ‘aveilable’ (excuse my pun), it can be challenging to know which style will work best with your venue and dress. Well, look no further; our fashion editors have compiled tons of options in our ‘Guide to the Quintessential Bridal Headpiece’ (page 50). Flowers don’t have to be the only thing infusing the air with fragrance. Check out our favorite spring scents on page

In hopes that this issue will inspire you to create your own unique spring wedding- until next time…

This gives glamorous new meaning to the words “daisy chain.”

The finishing touch to that head-to-toe glowing goddess look.

RUFFLED Feathers

Q.

By Marisa Steinberg

My maid of honor accidentally mentioned my wedding to an old friend whom I did not invite. Would it be rude not to invite her now?

A. Between excited friends and unplanned social media announcements, it’s

likely that someone will find out about your wedding who isn’t on the guest list but feels they should be. If an unwanted guest hints about attending the wedding, politely let he or she know that you haven’t finalized the guest list. If invitations have already been received, apologize for being unable to include the friend due to a limited budget or small venue.

Q. Some of my family and friends who will be attending my wedding have dietary restrictions. How can I respect their needs without overwhelming my caterer or my budget?

A. To get an idea of exactly what kind of dietary restrictions you need to plan for, include a line on RSVP cards where guests can list their needs. When dealing with a range of diets - from vegetarians to those with gluten allergies - everyone’s plate as well as your wallet will be full if you opt for a buffet. Often comparable in price to plated dinners, buffets allow those with limited options to increase the portion size of what they can eat while expanding the variety of dishes you serve.

Q. A couple days before I planned on purchasing my

dream dress, my mother suggested I wear her wedding gown. I’m touched by her offer and love her dress, however, it isn’t the style I want. How can I let her know how much the offer means to me while still going ahead with my original dress?

A. Before declining, consider incorporating the dress into the wedding in a small way. Wear her gown after the ceremony when you hit the dancefloor or take some photos in it. If you prefer to wear only your dress, let her know how important her support means to you and that you still want to honor what her gesture symbolizes - her accompaniment with you on this new path in your life. Include her by wearing a small piece of her jewelry or other special accessory.

Etiquette

Q. Despite giving several months to RSVP, a significant number of guests have yet to respond and our deadline is approaching. How can I get a better idea of a headcount so I can move along in my planning process?

A. Tardy responders are to be expected, but are nonetheless a hindrance to your planning process. Feel free to call or email these guests asking for a definite answer, explaining that you want the wedding to be as much fun as possible for everyone, which requires sticking to deadlines. It may seem like a tedious and pushy task, but it’s the only way to avoid unnecessary expenses or underestimated food quantities.

Q. I want most of my wedding decor to be DIY. My family is insisting on hiring a decorator and using store-bought decorations. Is it unreasonable to refuse?

A. Decorations are traditionally handled by the bride and her family, so handcrafting every detail will require a lot of their time. Busy relatives may have more money than minutes to spend, so a handful of DIY sessions may not be feasible. Ask if they can purchase the crafting supplies instead. Just make sure you have enough willing friends to help you complete your projects.

Q. Do I have to set up a traditional wedding registry? My fiancé and I would be grateful for any gifts but would rather that our attendees who feel obligated to purchase a present buy us something we really need instead of traditional items like china and flatware.

A. Requesting non-traditional items is becoming more common for couples. Be sure to uphold the traditional purpose of a registry by asking for items that will serve you both. Tickets to a concert or dancing lessons allow guests to buy you a memorable experience. Just don’t explicitly ask for cash even if you think keeping bills at bay is the surest way to send you off into marital bliss. Money is best requested subtly via word-of-mouth to close relatives and friends.

Designer Feature

Claire Pettibone is synonymous in the wedding world with romantic, vintage-inspired, whimsical designs. She partnered with her husband in 1994 to launch her first lingerie collection and hasn’t looked back since. Her attention to detail and love for beautiful fabrics have developed her a following of fellow romantic souls including Priscilla Chan, Cameron Diaz, Leona Lewis and Courteney Cox. Her creations are meant to “enhance our beauty and indulge in our dreams.” How can you not love that? Her designs have reached even more fans with an invitation line that launched in January with powerhouse stationer, Wedding Paper Divas. We had a chance to speak to Pettibone at New York Fashion Week about this collaboration as well as her newest runway collection, Still Life.

This runway is gorgeous! I love the pink petals. I know! I had this idea to do this ombre and I was like, “ I think we did petals last year, but this is going to be different!” Isn’t it so beautiful mixing the colors? So thank you. I’m glad it worked. It was fun putting this whole picture together. I always love all of the visual elements. Like with the invitations. It’s all telling the whole story. In the case of the invitations, that’s the first taste of what the wedding is going to be like. So it’s really nice to have something that kind of gives little hints of what’s to come. When I designed those, I wanted them all to have a different story to tell. There are many more coming in the collection that’s about to launch.

What was the most important thing for you when it came to designing this collection? I really wanted to express the richness of those paintings and the mysterious beauty that’s sort of opulent but calm at the same time. It’s kind of a cool blend. I like contrasts. You can be opulent but still lovely and genuine.

What would you say is the link throughout the collection? I always have a very vintage-inspired style. A very feminine and romantic style so that’s constant no matter what and this is just a different angle on that.

What really excites you about this collection? Is it that richness you spoke about? I really had fun with it. I love the touches of gold, the touches of color. I really had fun with the textiles and designing all those fabrics. Mixing the silhouettes, a little more drama in the train. A fantasy wedding dress sketch Pettibone drew for Jennifer Aniston

Pettibone’s Adeline & Amaryllis dress designs from her spring collection

Flowers play such a huge part in all of your designs. What is your favorite flower? That’s tough! I would have to say it’s between the peony and the rose, because I do love an old-fashioned rose. Peonies are beautiful. I love gardenias—I just love them all! I love flowers. I’m a nature girl.

With all of the flower details in the collection, how should a bride go about choosing her bouquet? Definitely work with your florist on that. Show her a swatch of the fabric or a picture of the dress. It depends on the dress and it depends on the bride. Some girls want to be a little bit more understated if the dress has a lot going on. Lots of different approaches work. I’m not into rules, so I don’t like saying you have to do this and you have to do that because I love seeing what my brides come up with. I love that they’re all different. That’s what SKETCH: Pettibone’s sketch makes it all fresh and beautiful. of her ‘Viola’ Wedding

Are there any bridal trends that you want to see or that you’re pioneering?

Dress TOP RIGHT: Earthly Paradise Wedding Invitation BOTTOM RIGHT: ‘Mariposa’ Wedding Dress

I have always been encouraging brides to have their own style and be unique. [To be a] more individual, genuine expression of their beauty. There are different ways of interpreting that. I have my way of doing it and I feel that that really is on trend now. Weddings are more individual than they’ve ever been before, which I think is really great to see and I think fun for the guests and it’s just creative.

What is next for the brand? [We are] excited about our invitations [that launched] in January. That’s the big project that we’re working on. We’ve had such a big year. We’ve moved into a castle! Our headquarters and flagship are all new so we’ve had a lot of new this year. The invitations are in partnership with Wedding Paper Divas so they will all be exclusive on their site. I designed the whole thing. I’m extremely hands-on. They’ve been wonderful in allowing me to be that hands-on. It’s really been a fun, new project.

Kat Dennings @ People’s Choice The notched cutout neckline of this silk gown gives it an edge over the many other strapless A-line wedding dresses out there. Although it does not have the sultry print of Kat’s dress, this dress does have the unique neckline, structured bodice, and relaxed shape that made Kat look so stunning at the People’s Choice Awards.

Veronique Bridal Gown, Nicole Miller, $1,320; Nicolemiller.com.

Emma Roberts @ Golden Globes Achieve Emma’s fabulous mermaid silhouette with this rich, satin gown. The clean, structured style and plunging neckline certainly makes this dress an eye-catcher, with or without the crystal belt. Allure Bridals, price upon request; Allurebridals.com.

Anna Faris @ People’s Choice Awards If you’re an alternative style girl like Anna Faris, a typical wedding dress simply won’t make the cut. Instead of her two-piece shimmery ensemble, try this white embroidered jumpsuit. The chantilly lace and swiss dots make this bridal look classy and fashion forward. Vintage White Embroidered Jumpsuit, Valentino, $9,500; Modaoperandi.com.

Strapless High Low Ball Gown with Colored Lace, Oleg Cassini $1,650; Davidsbridal.com.

Michelle Dockery @ Golden Globes Don’t be afraid to show off your fabulous shoes (and legs) with a high-low cut skirt like this one from David’s Bridal. The accent of this simple strapless A-line is colored lace instead of Michelles jewels. It is simple and elegant but still stands out from the crowd.

Robin Wright @ Golden Globes This high neck ivory halter dress captures the old Hollywood glamour represented in Robin’s gown at the Golden Globes. This vintage-inspired dress uses a sheath silhouette with a drop waist to achieve the perfect look. Mickael Gown, BHLDN, $3,600; BHLDN.com.

Beauty

Fair

Champagne and pink tones are perfect picks for fair skin. Picking ones with a slight shimmer also adds an extra pop for your lids!

y

Heba Salama Photograph

A shimmering champagne eye shadow will look flawless on your porcelain complexion. The soft hint of pink in Stila’s Kitten shadow is sure to bring out an all-over glow.

Soft pink is anything but understated when it draws upon your skin’s natural rosiness. This opaque peach by Illamasqua is an upgrade from your natural lip color that won’t compete with shimmery eyes.

Your most flattering blush will warm up your face without a lot of layers. The airy consistency of this mousse by Ulta ensures that you’ll look naturally flushed.

ILLAMASQUA Lipstick in Obey, $24, Sephora.com

Ulta Extreme Wear Mousse Blush in Pink Glow, $8, Ulta.com

Medium

Medium skin tones can effortlessly pull off rich, saturated hues like charcoal. Sunny shades of coral bring color to the rest of your face without competing for the spotlight.

A smoky eye provides major impact against the gold tones in your complexion. The spectrum of grays in Rimmel London’s eye shadow quad lets you build up your color while brightening your eyes. Rimmel London, Glam Eye Shadow Quad in Smokey Noir, $6, Ulta.com

Blush that picks up on the warmth of your skin tone, only in a brighter, punchier selection will look most natural. Benefit’s Coralista blush brings the warmth of orange without any harsh fluorescent tones.

Benefit CORALista Blush, $28, BenefitCosmetics.com

Combat the matte attack of an otherwise all-powder look with a decadently creamy lip color. A peachy finish, like in this Nars lip lacquer, subtly plays up your pout.

NARS Lip Laquer in Chelsea Girls, $25, NarsCosmetics.com

Olive

Avoid covering up your glowing skin and try products that provide buildable, sheer luminosity in earthy browns and polished pinks.

This metallic brown shade can be worn as a dry shadow for a subtle pop, or as a wet shadow for a more intense look. The rich tone of this Laura Mercier shadow will ensure that your eyes are the center of attention. LAURA MERCIER Baked Eye Colour in Hot Chocolate, $24, Sephora.com

Your natural lip color already pops beautifully against your skin, so why not let it shine in a nearlynaked gloss? The hint of tangerine in this one by Bobbi Brown is all you need to accentuate your lips.

The unique formula of Benefit’s Posietint gives off a delicate pink glow to the skin, without washing you out. Bonus; it can also be used a lip tint!

An elegant medium between birdcage and below-theshoulder veils, the shoulderlength blusher satisfies any girlhood wedding fantasies, but with adult sensibility. Its single tulle layer is large enough to add some whimsy, but stops short of competing with your dress or hair for attention. Try one out for any venue. Petal soft blusher veil by Twigs & Honey, $145; TwigsandHoney.com

Consider this a shield against an ill-timed bad hair day. Two tiers, a blusher in the front and a longer length in the back, keep your coif under constant cover, meaning fancy hairstyles might not be worth it. This full coverage option is ideal if your venue is a place of worship.

If you’re already wondering when you can kick off those bridal heels, a fingertiplength, boho-esque juliet cap will best suit you. Fabric, usually lace, hugs the crown of the head and transitions into flowing tulle at the ear, leaving room for a low bun or pony. Its often elaborate detailing shines brightest against a simple gown and works for all but small, informal gatherings, where it may look out of place. Manon Lace & Silk Veil Bridal Cap by Erica Elizabeth, $425;EricaElizabeth.com

Want to honor tradition without the fuss of a lot of fabric? A retro-looking birdcage veil lays at or above the chin, so it won’t interfere with an elaborate updo or steal the spotlight from an embellished gown. Wear it tilted to one side or in the center of the head. Just be sure to save this less conventional piece for a more informal ceremony.Birdcage veil embellished with Swarovski pearls by Powder Blue Bijoux, $36.53; Etsy.com

Loni & Keith had a weekendlong, bohemian chic affair at the Hotel Galvez that included a sweet ceremony in the garden with sweeping views of the Gulf of Mexico.

Loni and Keith knew one day wasn’t enough for their wedding. So they made a whole weekend out of it!

Guests flew in from all over the country for their Galveston, Texas wedding. The beach of the Gulf Coast was front and center, which was an important element for this couple when deciding where to get married. “We wanted to be close to the beach and have a whole weekend celebration,” Loni says. The Hotel Galvez met the couple’s criteria with its location overlooking the gulf and its grand, classical context. “The hotel is over 100 years old and that gives it a beautiful historic charm,” the bride reveals. Known as the “Queen of the Gulf,” the hotel was built in 1911, giving it opulent architectural features that matched Loni and Keith’s bohemian chic tastes.

Today two families are becoming one Please pick a seat not a side Color Palette:The couple’s color palette was a vibrant mix of peach, gold and pinks. “Succulents were featured throughout the decor, as well as vibrant corals and peaches. All of that was mixed with a lot of gold sparkle. And beautiful handwritten signs helped bring a lot of personalized charm,” Loni says. A soft, yellow fountain in the garden acted as the altar space for the laid-back bride and groom.

The ceremony: “The ceremony was very sweet and intimate, outside in the garden at 6 p.m.,” Loni says. The garden afforded guests sweeping views of the Gulf of Mexico while ocean breezes kept them cool before heading inside to the veranda for the reception.

Most Comical Moment “My brother, who is a mortician, was booked in the hotel’s supposedly haunted room. He gave an impromptu speech about finding out about the haunted room. It was a hilarious way to kick off the reception.”

One of the sweetest parts of Loni and Keith’s big day was their first look photoshoot session. This new tradition is time the bride and groom have to catch a sneak peek of each other before the ceremony while their photographer catches their reactions on film. “My favorite portion of the day was their couple session since it’s usually those times in which the most timeless moments of the wedding day are created,” says Barett Henry of Civic Photography, Loni and Keith’s photographer. Although, it’s pretty hard to keep this couple apart for too long, anyway! Loni and Keith began dating after the two of them met up with a mutual friend for dinner and live music. “We hit it off immediately and have been inseparable ever since,” says Loni.

74

Spring 2014

The couple played up the peach and yellow hues coming from the venue’s painted walls with coral table cloths and gold details that sparkled in the candlelight. Sleek graphics in the place settings, guestbook and cake table blended the couple’s sense of modernity with the vintage space. The centerpieces were vibrant with a stunning blend of saturated pink, fuchsia, and coral. Peach roses and green succulents melded the bright hues with pretty pastels. Loni and Keith incorporated their love of Chihuahuas into their big day by putting tiny paper pooches into potted succulents as favors. The couple asked guests to “let love grow” as they took one of the hardy plants home with them. “The reception was a party from start to finish,” Loni says. “Most of our guests were visiting from out of town, so everyone was in vacation mode, which makes everything more fun.” Which is exactly what Loni and Keith had in mind when planning their getaway wedding.

Disney

Over their seven years of dating, Sam and Cory developed a love for all things Disney! The message of dedicating a lifetime to having adventures together from the movie “Up” led them to a travel-themed, “Upstyled” wedding.

S

amantha tephenson always knew she wanted to have a dream wedding in Disney World. “I have always loved Disney World and when Cory and I went together to celebrate graduating high school, I think we both began to love it together,” Samantha says. “Throughout over 100 visits together, our love for the parks “My ceremony dress was the Alfred Angelo Cinderella gown. I and going there with added a belt to the waist to make it mine. I wore mint heels under each other only my gown. My earrings were from my Godmother. I had a wavy updo pulled into a low style. I had a vintage-looking hairband.” grew. We knew that Disney could give us everything we dreamed of and we wanted to share that with our family and friends.”

August 4th, 2013 Cory wore a Vera Wang tux from Men’s Wearhouse. Instead of a typical boutonniere, Sam gave him a grape soda pin to stick with their theme.

Disney Attraction

“We had two readings, one was an excerpt from ‘The Princess Bride,’ the other was the poem ‘If You Forget Me’ by Pablo Neruda. We also wrote our own vows, which was one of my favorite parts. The ceremony was sweet, funny, and so special.”

To combine their love of travel with Disney, Samantha and Cory knew Disney’s Epcot would be the perfect location. The park has a World Showcase attraction, which gives visitors a taste of different countries all around the globe. “We had our ceremony on the pagoda in Epcot’s Japan pavilion. Before the guests arrived, I surprised Cory by having the Taiko drummers perform. They perform daily in Epcot and he always has to stop and listen to them play. He was in total shock and incredibly happy. They then played his walk down the aisle, along with our recessional,” Samantha says. “In total, the ceremony lasted about 15 minutes. Our very good friend, Kevin, became ordained and performed our ceremony. It was so special to have the entire ceremony be tailored to us and have it done by someone who knew us so well.”

Decor was kept minimal with just a few handmade origami flowers spanning both sides of the aisle. “The location was so unique and gorgeous that we didn’t want a lot to distract from that,” Samantha says.

After the ceremony, the bride and groom hosted brunch at the Living Seas Salon across Epcot’s lagoon. This space offered guests a whole aquarium wall with views into the large, saltwater tank. Even more exciting? The food! “We were able to have one of our favorite Disney foods, Tonga Toast!” Samantha says. This popular Disney breakfast dish is a delicious combination of tropical bananas stuffed into French toast and is usually only available at the Polynesian Resort. But the magic of Disney joined Samantha and Cory on their wedding adventure and delivered the sweet menu item.

The

Reception “Our reception was at the Atlantic Dance Hall on Disney’s Boardwalk. It had the perfect art deco, vintage vibe we wanted along, with a huge dance floor,“ say Samantha. Round tables were gathered around the dance hall and dressed with black tablecloths and silver runners. Tumbler vases in varying sizes were paired with mason jars and glowed in shades of blue, acting as unique centerpieces. To add their love of travel to their reception, Samantha and Cory used vintage postcards to name each table. Guests found their spots from old-fashioned root beer bottles tagged with their name, table and a striped straw for enjoying the brew.

“Cory and I are very funny and laugh multiple times a day. Our wedding would not have been us without some humor and laughs. Everyone laughed throughout the ceremony and it was just such a feeling of love.”

Their “Up” inspiration came through in their reception with their card box, guestbook and favors. “Our card box was a luggage-looking box, which we surrounded with photos of us inspired by ‘Up’ and close relatives’ wedding photos. Our guestbook was our very own ‘Adventure Book’ along with tags where guests could tell us where to travel to next,” Samantha says. “We had a signature drink, which was a Blue Hawaiian that we named The Spirit of Adventure.” A buffet with the bride and groom’s favorite dishes from around the park provided guests with a flavorful food tour of the famous vacation destination. For dessert they served torched-to-order creme brulee and French macarons. To cure sweet tooth cravings at home, a colorful assortment of candy was provided for guests to bag and take with them. The bright display was reminiscent of the vibrant balloons Carl uses to send his house aloft in the movie. “We chose ‘Up’ because it reflects our relationship. They grew up together, too, and always had this sense of adventure,” says Samantha. Spring 2014

Planning a destination wedding comes with a unique set of challenges, including a smaller guest list. “We knew from the beginning that by having a destination wedding, not everyone would be able to attend, even if they really wanted to,” Samantha says. “When it happened that my brother and one of Cory’s brothers didn’t think they could make it, we were devastated. It was really hard to apply the knowledge, that not everyone could come, to that situation. Once we did though, it was much less stressful and upsetting. And after all that, they were both able to come!” Another challenge is communicating with vendors who you may never meet in person. “When you get married in Disney World, you are given a planner who, once you tell them what you want, basically does all the arranging for you,” Samantha says. “With everything else we did and it being a destination wedding, it was so helpful to not have to contact each individual vendor. It was also just beautiful and unique.”

A dreamscape ceremony in a marbled cave followed by a reception in an

ethereal park of artwork proved that for Letizia and Morgan life together has been a dream from the start. After leaving Sicily for the U.S., Letizia met Morgan during Thanksgiving dinner at a friend’s house. The dinner, however, turned into a date when Morgan offered to show Letizia around the city. They bonded over their deep love for community, family, culture, travel and exquisite food. It was vital that these passions were present on their wedding day. Once Morgan proposed over a golden sunset in Maui the two started to think about all of their possibilities for making these passions and dreams come through in their wedding.

T

he couple’s wedding ceremony was in the stunning church of Saint Anthony. “One of the most meaningful experiences from our wedding was having our ceremony in a church off ocean cliffs,” Letizia says. The sanctuary is in the cave where Saint Anthony took refuge in 1221 during a storm. Eighty guests attended the ceremony and marveled at the beautiful church cut out of the rocks and gilded with marble refinements. Upon arrival, guests were given intricate hand fans gifted by the bride’s parents to stave off the heat of the warm, June day. Letizia and Morgan’s traditional Catholic ceremony was accompanied with music from Cantica Nova, who sang soulful songs in three languages: Latin, Italian and English.

94

Spring 2014

Letizia says. “[We] only wanted to do a full immersion of color and taste of my native Sicily.” The couple chose an orange, green and ivory color palette to reflect the natural colors of the landscape of Letizia’s hometown of Milazzo. Orange was incorporated with Morgan’s tie and through the flowers and ribbon in Letizia’s bouquet. With the beautiful surroundings and historical locations, additional decor was kept at a minimum. “Both the church and reception venues were already full of character so we decided to have simple decór with flowers that recall the orange and yellow tones of warm Sicily,” Letizia says.

Morgan wanted something simple and he found this Hugo Boss gray suit that fit him perfectly. He gave the look some color with an orange tone tie. It was perfect!

The RECEPTION

My favorite moment was when we arrived at the reception

place and we had time to realize what a wonderful day we were living. Full of love from our family and friends, in the perfect place. -LETIZIA-

After the ceremony, guests

headed to Parco Jalari to indulge in two more of Letizia and Morgan’s passions: culture and food! “[The] park is a historical museum in the mountains above Milazzo featuring an outdoor sculpture collection made over many years of work by the Pietrini and Giorgianni families, with a panoramic view of the surrounding hillsides, sea and coastline.” The outdoor museum is set up as a journey transitioning from the state of confusion in the beginning and ending with the state of dreams at the end. Perfect for telling a love story!

96 Spring 2014

“Vera Pietrini, the event planner at Parco Jalari, helped fulfill our wedding dream with a full tradition of Sicilian tastes,” Letizia says. Guests dined on seemingly endless courses ranging from stuffed mushroom antipasto to flaming fish, risotto, fresh bread, cheeses and heart-shaped ravioli. After the meal, the newlyweds were surprised by a gift of Gypsy circus performers! “My brother surprised all of us!” Letizia says. Fire artists and musicians entertained guests until the early morning.

Printed flowers, such as this pink rose, served as a unique alternative to traditional placecards. 4. Rich purple napkins also functioned as menus for the evening. 5. Varying shades of pink and purple flowers added depth to table arrangements.

Flower of the Moment The Allium Globemaster

Artist Group Photography

We’re loving... this gigantic late spring bloom. The bouquet of tiny flowers at the top can grow up to 10 inches in diameter. The thick, sleek stem makes them look like giant, suspended balloons when they are stuck into planters or grass beds. Use them as a modern backdrop for the altar space or have flower girls carry one bloom. The large allium globemaster comes in shades of violet and purple, but smaller varieties come in pinks, yellows, oranges, whites and blues. Your wedding will look like a modern fairy tale with these whimsical buds.

Run

World?

120 Spring 2014

At Reign and Co., an event planning company, they not only believe in servicing their clients, but in servicing the world. Cara Frye, founder and president of Reign and Co., is on a journey to run in marathons and races around the world to raise money for Building a Bridge to Uganda, a non-profit geared toward providing education and care for the children of Uganda. Follow Reign’s journey as Cara travels to remarkable destinations and finds the perfect favor for your wedding day or celebration! Each destination will have an official favor that can be purchased to benefit Building a Bridge to Uganda. All proceeds will go to the charity.

Q: Why run the world?

Interview by Gabriella Galati

Q: Are you scared of the journey you are about to take?

Cara, with a hint of shyness, laughingly answered with a pause, “… Why not? That’s pretty much how we run Reign. My team and I love what we do and we absolutely love love. Once you have love you have no limits. Your question goes from why to how. How can we accomplish this?” She laughed and said, “ I guess we are full of it! Full of love. Love for our clients who become friends, love for our coworkers who become family, and love for people in general. Running in races around the world to raise money for Building a Bridge to Uganda is just our love in action.”

Without reservation she answered, “Absolutely! I struggle every run. Maybe the elite/older runners can give me some advice and tell me it gets easier,” she laughed. That’s why I like running marathons, they are challenging. You have to push yourself and give everything you have until you cross the finish line. Marathons are a lot like life, there are hills, personal best days and stressful days, but with every run you take a step closer to the finish line. So sometimes I am a little nervous, but I think I am more confident in the ability of myself to reach my current potential and I am confident in people’s willingness to help one another. This is a team effort and I believe in the greater good starting with myself.”

Q: Who is Reign and Co.?

Q: What do you hope will happen from these races?

Cara’s hands began to unfold as she told me about her dream company. “Reign is an event planning company, an event planning company with a focus on love. We design events to reflect our clients’ love stories and most celebrated events. We listen to our clients’ dream and then incorporate their story into a design. Every design doesn’t necessarily have a high cost but because we incorporate their story into the design it has a high value. Reign is an event planning company, an event planning company with a focus on love. Love is action. I heard many stories about Building a Bridge to Uganda and there was one thing that shocked me. From the stories, the people of Uganda are happy. They are happy because they lack want but they suffer greatly because there is an enormous need. The children aren’t asking for toys, they are asking for food or shoes. Here at Reign, we want to be a reflection of love and lend a helping hand.”

“I hope that we ALL get something out of this – a little hope, a little help, and lots of love. I can only hope that whoever sees or hears about these races will join in the journey by purchasing the official race favors, from which 100% of the proceeds will go to the charity. I also hope it inspires others to run their personal best in the greatest marathon, life.”

Q: How can Reign followers get involved? “As we travel, we will unveil each favor to purchase at Reignandco.com/ RunTheWorld. Each favor purchased will benefit the families of Uganda. You can follow the journey on Facebook at Facebook.com/ReignAndCo. You can also follow us on Instagram and Twitter @REIGNANDCO.”

Q: Lastly, what’s your motivation? Cara answered and with a short sentence, with which we concluded the interview, “To be love.”

Unique RECEPTION VENUES

By Jenn Loring

Looking to break your reception out of the standard banquet hall? Here we’ll help you explore the most creative options for reception venues and make your party the talk of the town, no matter your budget. 122 Spring 2014

Walk On The Wild Side If you’re an animal lover, consider holding your reception at an aquarium or zoo. Zoos are increasingly popular for receptions, and you’re certain to have memorable photos. But keep in mind that zoos require a minimum number of guests and typically run over $5,000 for a four-hour rental. Aquariums, on the other hand, can be rented for almost half the price, at around $2,800, and provide an equally stunning backdrop to your party.

Game On Sporty couples with a passion for their hometown team often host receptions in stadiums or arenas. These venues boast swanky and fully catered suites, bars and clubhouses, ranging in price from $1,000 to $8,000 depending on which suite or club you choose. Make it an off-hours private affair, or rent a suite during the big game and come dressed in your favorite fan gear! Jonathan Ivy Lifestyle Photography

A Novel Idea If you’re a book lover, what better place for a wedding receptio n than a library? Drink and dance with soaring stacks as your backgrou nd, for as little as $1,500. As with museum s, you’ll need to work with specific caterers . But libraries are a budget-f riendly option and some, like the New York Public Library, are architec tural icons. Take a Bow Theaters provide a unique alternative to the average wedding reception, especially if you love attending plays or concerts. They often feature historic architecture, which can furnish impressive photo backgrounds. Packages start as low as $1,000, based on the day (and theater) you choose, or skyrocket to $15,000. But there’s nothing quite like seeing you and your spouse’s names on a marquee! hy

Night at the Museum For a truly grand reception experience, try a museum. Whether your passion is art, natural history or aerospace, you’re guaranteed unforgettable decor! That “wow” factor comes with a price, of course. Expect to pay anywhere from $15,000 to $30,000, and you will generally need to work with the museum’s preferred list of caterers. Museum members, however, can typically take advantage of a discount. raphy

Elegant, romantic and mysterious, the natural beauty of caves makes them an ideal and unexpected location for a reception. Caves are also one of the cheapest options on our list; rental fees can range from $400 to $2,500. Whether a wine cave or a cavern carved into a mountainside , this is one venue your guests will talk about for years to come!

(toboggan for two) If your wedding locale’s climate allows for it, a dogsled departure is a great excuse for cozying up with your spouse. Freezing temps mean you’ll have to snuggle up – and maybe even bring hot cocoa for the ride – adding a special moment of intimacy to an otherwise public day.

By land, by sea, by air – we can’t pick just one favorite farewell! Heading out on four wheels – or four legs- is always a classic, and is relatively simple to arrange. A brief boat ride provides the perfect setting for you and your partner to pause and reflect on the day. If you want to feel like the only two people in the world, an aerial view of it all via helicopter will unfailingly deliver. Of course, your exit will be stellar no matter how you go, as long as you go together.

perfect parting Kaci & Tad, May 5, 2012 photograph by Joielala Photography

Before a rare and romantic supermoon cast an unusually large, pink glow on Kaci and Tad’s at-home Texas wedding, the couple reflected in the remaining daylight by a tree swing on the groom’s family estate. With a love story characterized by diverging and then converging paths - the duo broke up after their high school romance only to reconnect post college graduation - bringing it all back home was only fitting. The bohemian ceremony included 125 friends and family members, who the bride says always knew their love would come full circle. “My favorite part of the day was the end of the ceremony when my husband and I took a moment to take everything in. All of the twists and turns that brought us to this day and here we were. Just married and ready to celebrate with our closest friends and family. It was such an incredible feeling that I will never forget.” - KACI, ON HER FAVORITE MOMENT OF HER WEDDING DAY.

We can’t get enough of these gorgeous weddings and we would love to see yours! Send us your favorite shot with a description to info@ inblissweddings.com and you may be featured in our next e-zine or on our website!
