SPRING 2024 ISSUE

THE UNFORGETTABLE, UNSCRIPTED MOMENTS OF

live performance!

Welcome to a world where every note, every joke, every movement, and every line unfolds in the magic of the moment. When music, comedy, dance, and drama come to life before your own eyes, the beauty and excitement captures your imagination like nothing else. It is in these unscripted moments that we find the true power of live performance. Unscripted moments bring an unparalleled connection between the artist and the audience. A sudden riff, an improvised solo, or an unexpected interaction can create a shared experience. In this season’s lineup, we invite you to embrace the enchantment of the unexpected that only live performances can offer, like the spontaneity in the live concerts of Joe Satriani & Steve Vai, Lukas Nelson + POTR, Trey Kennedy, and Bruce Hornsby with yMusic, as well as two Pops concerts: A Night at the Oscars in February and Disco Inferno: Greatest Hits of the ’70s in April.

In comedy, the laughter that erupts from an unanticipated punchline or an off-the-cuff remark resonates more deeply when an audience experiences it collectively, as with performers like Wanda Sykes, Jerry Seinfeld, Chelsea Handler, Joe Gatto, and Bianca del Rio. In dance, the unexpected can break the confines of choreography, allowing performers such as Halau Hula Ka No’eau (of our Rodney Strong Dance Series), as well as Dancing with the Stars to express raw emotion and genuine passion. Unscripted moments can never be replicated. These spontaneous instances, unique to each live show, weave an intricate tapestry that captivates audiences, making every performance an unforgettable experience. Embark with us on this season’s journey of live performances, and celebrate the joy of the unpredictable!

NEW SCULPTURE GARDEN EXHIBIT HIGHLIGHTS

t r A n i y r t e m o Ge

In our commitment to expand the community’s access to the visual arts, the LBC recently worked with local artists and the Voigt Family Sculpture Foundation to bring a new exhibit of 14 works to its outdoor Sculpture Garden in Santa Rosa. Titled Geometry In Art, the exhibit is free and open to the public from September 2023 to August 2025. Geometry In Art celebrates the intersection of geometry and artistic expression through the works of nine extraordinary artists, each presenting a unique perspective and aesthetic through their exploration of form, line, and negative space. Artists include Dee Briggs, John deMarchi, Robert Ellison, Peter Forakis, Briona Hendren, Michael McGinnis, Rob Senn, Doug Unkrey, and Al Voigt. “Through their work, these artists invite us to immerse ourselves in a world where aesthetics and mathematical principles harmoniously converge,” said Anita Wiglesworth, Vice President of Programs and Marketing and curator of the exhibit. “They use the language of shapes, rhythms, and repetition to speak to the senses, inspire contemplation, and foster a deeper appreciation for the inherent beauty of geometry that permeates our world.” “As the seasons change, we encourage the community to visit the Sculpture Garden often to enjoy some of our additional engagement opportunities there, such as our Northern Lights Winter Lights Art Walk, Artist Talks, and docent-led tours throughout the installation,” said Anita. “One Geometry in Art sculpture in particular, Block Party, by Doug Unkrey & Al Voigt, will change orientation throughout the show.” Come visit to see how it alters the space there – and your own perspective!
