What’s Inside Welcome to Your LBC! Thank you for joining us. 2019 promises to be an especially exciting year at Your LBC—besides the many terrific shows we have planned for you, this year is when we unveil the curtains to reveal major upgrades at Your LBC. By spring you will be enjoying pre-show and intermission in the Marcia and Gary Nelson Family Grand Plaza and riding the elevators to the second level. These major renovations, along with the ongoing improvements to the lobby, complete Phase Two of our Bridge to the Future renovation project. We strive to offer a great variety of performances and the best service to our patrons. Please don’t hesitate to alert one of our front-of-house staff if there is something we can do to enhance your experience. As always, onstage at Your LBC you will find many options to enjoy. A stimulating conversation with actor John Cusack or a rousing acoustic performance by Kip Moore. The legendary Buddy Guy’s electrifying music or the hilarious comedy of internet sensation Randy Rainbow. A musical celebration of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Elton John and Paul McCartney with Carlton Senior Living Symphony Pops and Music of the Knights, or the amazing dance moves of Derek Hough! Please visit our website for the full line-up of great performances and be sure you are on our e-mail list to hear about new shows added throughout the year. Your experience here is of paramount importance to us. With that in mind, soon you will notice new ticket scanners and several other improvements that contribute to the ease, safety and security of your time at LBC. Even before the elevators are running or the central lobby doors open to the new plaza, we hope you visit the new Concierge Desk at the North end of the lobby—the central information point for everything you need to know about Your LBC. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the performance!

beer brands, including Lagunitas, Modelo, Coors, and Blue Moon, to LBC patrons in its beautifully-updated concession areas. Since 1935, Columbia has helped build some of the best known beverage brands while helping its community partners. Today Columbia services 22,000+ retail customers covering over 171,000 square miles in Oregon, Washington and California. Over 200 beverage companies rely on Columbia for distribution of their products. Why a distributor? The role of Columbia and other distributors is often confusing to the average consumer… ”why don’t beverage makers just sell and market on their own?” Most do, but partnering The Ernest L. & Ruth W. Finley Foundation
with a distributor allows them to compete confidently against the big established brands. Distributors have the logistics, sales, and marketing capabilities that breweries, wineries and ciderhouses don’t. Columbia alone employs nearly 3,000 people who help their supplier partners build a name, establish a brand and generate a loyal following. Columbia ensures consumers have the most choices possible when they walk into their favorite bar, restaurant or grocery store. It’s not just “a job” at Columbia “We keep a very well-trained and happy workforce,” says Chris Steffanci, President and CEO at Columbia Distributing. The company takes extra effort to educate its team members with specialized beverage knowledge. For example, over 400 employees have completed the first level of Cicerone certification. Cicerone is a title not unlike the wine industry’s sommelier. As the variety and popularity of craft beer grows, so does the range of knowledge needed to properly serve and store each unique style. Training on the various beer and wine styles, tastes and food pairings positions Columbia employees as consultants, not sales people. Delivering more than beer Columbia Distributing has also been recognized for playing an active role in the communities where it operates. Every year the company gives well over a half-million dollars to national
Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and AB114 Committee
and local nonprofits, including LBC. In fact, with the help of Columbia’s contribution and others in the community, the Luther Burbank Center was able to provide education through the arts to over over 40,000 students in 2018!

This exclusive show will feature Tyler discussing his unique gift and how it affects his everyday life. This event also includes a multi-media video presentation, lecture, PLUS live readings, and audience Q&A.
The hit comedy “High Fidelity” is the story of record shop owner Rob Gordon (John Cusack) on a search for love (and the reasons behind his failed relationships) against a backdrop of over 70 songs spanning multiple decades and genres of music. With – or without – the help of his record store buddies Dick (Todd Louiso) and Barry (Jack Black’s breakout role), Rob revisits past relationships in hopes of figuring out where he has gone wrong. Released in 2000, The New York Times praised John Cusack as “a master at easygoing camaraderie.” Rotten Tomatoes has “High Fidelity” ranked #14 on the list of Best Romantic Comedies. Now, join John Cusack for a screening of “High Fidelity” on the big screen followed by a LIVE conversation regarding his career and the making of the film. Fans will get the opportunity to experience a moderated discussion, with John answering audience questions, as well. A limited number of VIP seats will be available that include a post-show photo-op with John.

In celebration of the 50 th Anniversary of The Band, two of today's defining American roots groups join in an evening of their own songs and a special tribute to Music from Big Pink and The Band. Eclectic octet The Dustbowl Revival blends folk-Americana and Stax-era soul into a genrehopping, time-bending dance party. With strings, brass, dueling vocals and more, the winners of "Best Live Band" by L.A. Weekly exemplify everything shows should be: "hot, spontaneous, engaging and, best of all, a pleasure to hear." Joining them is Austin-based trio Hot Club of Cowtown, which delivers hot jazz and Western swing light and tight, like tumbleweeds made of velvet. Inspired by European hot jazz and vintage American roots music, these Texas Western Swing Hall of Famers have shared stages with Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, and Roxy Music. Hitch your wagon and enjoy this freewheeling, foot-stomping frenzy!
Alice’s Restaurant achieved platinum status and was made into a movie in 1969, in which Arlo played himself. 1969 also brought Arlo to the rock festival of the ages, Woodstock, where he showcased his hit “Coming into Los Angeles.” Arlo’s most notable work is his definitive version of the song “The City of New Orleans” that was a hit on all major charts. After almost 60 years of shows, Arlo Guthrie remains a road warrior touring almost constantly. The legendary singer-songwriter will be joined by his daughter Sarah Lee Guthrie.

as an author, actor, and activist. He continues to thrive as a relevant and progressive musical and cultural force. In recent years, he has delivered more than a dozen new album releases, again released a Top 10 New York Times' bestsellers book, headlined Farm Aid, an event he co-founded in 1985, received his 5th degree black belt in Gong Kwon Yu Sul, headlined the annual Luck Reunion food and music festival at his ranch in Luck, TX during SXSW, launched his cannabis companies Willie’s Reserve and Willie’s Remedy, and graced the covers of Rolling Stone and AARP The Magazine. He released two albums of newly recorded performances in 2017: God’s Problem Child, with 13 new songs that debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Country album chart and #10 on the Billboard 200, and Willie Nelson and The Boys (Willie’s Stash, Vol. 2), that includes 11 country classics and one brand-new song performed by Nelson and his sons Lukas and Micah. In 2018, he released Last Man Standing in April to celebrate his 85th birthday. It is comprised entirely of songs newly-penned by Nelson (and longtime collaborator and producer Buddy Cannon). In September 2018, Nelson released My Way, a collection of newly recorded standards and classics originally made famous by Nelson’s close friend and musical colleague Frank Sinatra. These new songs and performances add to his classic catalog, and finds Willie Nelson rolling at a creative peak, writing and singing and playing with the seasoned wit and wisdom that comes from the road, which he still travels along performing for fans.

OUR STORIES: LEARNING OUTSIDE THE TEXTBOOK
WHAT OUR MEMBERS, DONORS, AND SPONSORS MAKE POSSIBLE
Our Stories: Learning Outside the Textbook
“
Studies prove time and time again that when you use art as a vehicle for learning, students remember it.
”
As part of the Education Through the Arts program at Your LBC, teaching artist Eddie Madril visits elementary school classes to share Native American traditions. He gets kids out of their seats, giving each student a small hoop – then Madril offers instruction in a basic dance.
The hands-on approach is a hit with his classes. “It’s better to learn by doing it than by reading in book or talking about it,” says one student in his workshop. This idea is at the heart of arts integrated education—it’s not merely arts instruction; it’s employing the arts to teach all sorts of subjects. Bonnie Raines, a third-grade teacher at Santa Rosa Charter School for the Arts, says teaching history with dance and music allows her “to be more spontaneous.” And students remember lessons that involve the arts far longer than lessons conveyed in lectures. “Studies prove time and time again that when you use art as a vehicle for learning, students remember it. There
is a reason that we still remember songs from grade school teaching us things like the alphabet or even states!” says Ashleigh Worley, LBC’s Director of Education and Community Engagement. “Finding new ways to approach curriculum helps allow students who may not have a vested interest or who may struggle with learning a particular concept.” Those who attend shows at Luther Burbank Center for the Arts may think its main mission is to bring musicians, comedians and theatrical performances to Santa Rosa. Yet through its arts education programs, the LBC connects with more than 40,000 students – from Sonoma, Marin, Napa, Mendocino and Lake counties – every year. In addition, LBC teams with the Kennedy Center to provide arts education professional development to teachers as well as residencies with highly-trained ‘teaching artists’ who use innovative strategies that engage students in new ways of learning.
Perhaps most exciting for the kids: LBC’s School Shows program brings students to LBC performances for youth such as Lewis & Clark: A Celebration of Teamwork. After the shows, students can ask questions of the professional actors, bridging the gap between actors on stage and kids in the audience. While on the surface these opportunities may feel like just another fun field trip to the student, the supplemental activities and thoughtfully chosen offerings tie in to curricular topics that allow for learning to happen without them even realizing it. “I think any educator would agree that the very best teachers are lifelong learners who never stop looking for ways to get better at what they do,” Worley says. “Our residencies and professional development opportunities allow classroom teachers to continue to grow throughout their career. Using arts integration techniques is a wonderful way for students who might struggle to make that connection in the classroom to not only connect but engage.”

SCULPTURE GARDEN GR AND REOPENING New Exhibition Harmonies: Kati Casida, Catherine Daley, and Jann Nunn Showcases works of Bay Area Artists
The Center’s expansive campus currently features works by fourteen local and regional artists, including Robert Ellison, Dennis Leon, Diana Meehan, and Roberto Santo.
Your LBC has reopened its outdoor Sculpture Garden with Harmonies, an exhibition featuring works by Bay Area artists Kati Casida, Catherine Daley, and Jann Nunn. Harmonies features four sculptures from each of the three artists. Experienced as a combined exhibit, the sculptures create curtains of light and colorful dancing shapes as well as emotional space for reflection and immersion. Kati Casida, Catherine Daley, and Jann Nunn bring an inspired harmony to the garden, thoughtfully restored following the 2017 firestorms and designed to reflect the local Sonoma County landscape. While each artists’ work is their own distinctive expression, the exhibit as a whole conveys a collaboration of their individual connection with nature. The new sculptures for Harmonies exhibition will be on display for the public to enjoy through September 20, 2020.
We invite you to take a self-guided tour of our collection during regular business hours. For more information on visual art at the LBC, please visit: lutherburbankcenter.org/visual-art

What is YOUR Legacy? See your investment in the LBC
From where you sit, you can see your investment in the LBC directly and immediately. Your support makes it possible for us to create lasting memories while we enrich, educate and entertain our audiences. Thank you! What would you like your investment to look like years, or even decades, from now? Have you considered the LBC in your legacy plans? If you want to ensure that the LBC will continue here for future generations, consider naming the Center in your will or trust. Then, join the Lamona Johnson Walraven Legacy Society, and let us thank you now for your future investment. To learn more, contact Robin Seltzer at 707.800.7525 or rseltzer@lutherburbankcenter.org.
Lamona Johnson Walraven, a longtime Santa Rosa resident, was a high school teacher and counselor who came of age at a time when most women did not pursue higher education. She earned a master’s degree from UC Berkeley, then shared her love for learning with her family and students, believing that all would thrive through the benefits of an education. Through her bequest, Lamona left a lasting impact on Luther Burbank Center for the Arts, with the largest legacy gift ever received, benefiting both girls and boys through her largesse.

Parking
The Ruth Finley Person Theatre is a flexible venue allowing for both seated and open floor configurations. When seated, the 1681-seat venue is the largest fixed seat venue in Sonoma County, and no seat is more than 75 feet from the stage. When main floor seats are removed, the open floor/seated balcony configuration raises the capacity to 2000. The theatre’s unique thrust stage design, with no seat more than 75 feet from the stage, provides a level of intimacy between artists and audiences unlike any other in Northern California. For more than 30 years, Luther Burbank Center for the Arts has been the best place to see your favorite performer up close and personal.
