Children across the county are getting ready for a visit from Santa on Christmas Eve. On December 3 at the Hometown Christmas Event in Adamsville, Santa met with many children to make sure he got their Christmas wish list.

McNairy County residents came together to help their Kentucky neighbors. Within twenty four hours $50,000 worth of toys were collected for many who lost everything in the recent tragedy. Over 300 families

McNairy County residents came to the aid of their Kentucky neighbors supplying over $50,000 in Christmas toys and collecting over $11,000 in the Selmer Walmart parking lot when they joined First Lady Britainy Beshear’s Western Kentucky Toy Drive to provide Christmas for children in the Mayfield, KY area who lost their homes during the deadly tornadoes of Dec. 10. Partnering with His House Ministries, McNairy County met the needs of 350 families and 1,000 children for a Christmas celebration hosted at the Graves County Middle School last week. Thanks to all who donated toys, gift certificates, money or time to bring joy to many children who lost much.

The City of Selmer swore in their first female mayor. Sherry Inman was sworn in last Tuesday as the first woman to serve in the city’s top office. In an election on November 2, Inman received 350 votes to incumbent mayor John Smith’s 294 vote and candidate Mike Lambert’s 229 votes for a total of 874 votes. Inman was sworn in by City Judge Ken Seaton with granddaughter Raelyn Glidewell holding the Bible before a gathering of family and friends. She will assume the office January 1, 2022.

McNairy Central High School teacher Nick Cook named Teacher of the Year in McNairy County. On Friday, the McNairy County Board of Education announced Nick Cook, Future Farmers of America agricultural educator as the county recipient of the Teacher of the Year award.
