How the Pusser Museum got a new curator By Jeff Whitten Head News Writer
MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT

Julia Stevens is the new Curator at the Buford Pusser Home and Museum in Adamsville. Like a lot of people during the recession, her job search was met with rejection until she found the place she believes she was meant to be. Stevens grew up in Munford, Tenn., which is about 25 miles north of Memphis. “It’s a small town. It’s not as small as Adamsville,” she explained. Stevens attended the University of Memphis for four years. She has two degrees: one in International Studies and one in French. She also studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. “I lived over there for a while, and that was a lot of fun,” Stevens said. She worked as a tour operator in Memphis for four years. Legacy Hospice holds service to honor past patrons
Staff Photo by Christen Coulon
The Legacy Hospice in Selmer held a memorial service last Sunday to honor patrons that it has cared for in the past. Staff members joined with family and friends along with a military honor guard and the Selmer American Legion in a celebration of life that featured a 21-gun salute, a flag presentation and a release of balloons with messages to lost loved ones.

Does it feel warmer than normal this year? Unless we see snowmen this year on Halloween, 2012 is slated to be the warmest ever recorded for West Tennessee. In fact, according to the National Climatic Data Center, this year has been the warmest on record for Memphis, the Mid-South, the Eastern U.S. and the world. In Memphis, the mean January through August temperature was more than four degrees warmer than average, making it the warmest ever recorded for the city since record keeping began 73 years ago.
With last weekend marking the first day of fall, we should get a break from the extreme heat we have seen all summer. However, if the last 27.5 years are any indication, don’t expect a cold winter this year. That is because for the last 330 months, or every month since March 1985, the global monthly temperature exceeded the recorded average. What does this all mean to us? It all depends on who you ask. Expert opinions range from a catastrophic melting of the world’s ice caps causing sea levels to rise 60 plus feet in the next 100 years, which would cause flooding of all the costal regions of the world, to a normal up-
ward devaluation of the temperature cycle lasting only a few decades. Because predicting the weather is still an imprecise science, time will only tell who is correct. While scientists still cannot accurately predict temperatures years in advance, they are getting much better at monthly and long-term forecasting. No one really knows whether The Big Easy will be underwater in 2112 or not. However, the consensus among forecasters for fall 2012 shows that McNairy County is slightly warmer and dryer than normal from now until Christmas. So whatever the future holds, enjoy the near perfect weather the next three months.
