The Adamsville Cardinals advance to the Class 2A semifinals of the state playoffs after shutting out the Loretto Mustangs last Friday. Their 24-0 win earned them a rematch with the Dresden Lions who eliminated the Cardinals from state championship contention last year in the semifinals. A 26-year-old graduate of McNairy County Central High School was found shot to death on the side of the road in the 2600 block of DenmarkJackson Road in Denmark, Tenn. on Nov. 15, accordSMITH ing to media reports. The man, Lazar Arnaz Smith, graduated from MCHS, according to his Facebook page. Smith apparently died of multiple gunshot wounds. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call the morning of Nov. 15 by a Madison school bus driver who discovered the body. The bus driver was beginning his route, but there were no children on the bus. The road is surrounded by a wooded area with no houses close by. The body had been there for less than eight hours when officers arrived. Family members said they last talked to Smith about 10 p.m. on Nov. 14. Smith’s last known address was 667 Old Humboldt Road, Apt. D in Jackson. The family identified Smith’s body by looking at photographs of his tattoos. These included the initials “LZ” tattooed on the back of his right hand. “Kita” was tattooed on his neck. His Facebook page says he is engaged to Nikita Jones. The body was taken to the Forensic Center in Nashville for an autopsy. Calls to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department had not been returned by press time.

Two people were killed and two were injured in an accident on Highway 22 near the intersection of Hubert Manuel Road in Michie last Saturday. According to the Fatality Report provided by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 11:31 a.m. last Saturday when a 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo driven by Billy R. Vunkannon, 31 of Corinth, Miss., left its lane and crossed over the center line into the opposing lane striking a 1993 Chevy Corsica nearly head-on driven by Angela L. Richardson, 48, of Michie. Both Vunkannon and Richardson were killed in the accident. A passenger in Vunkannon’s vehicle, Megan V. Ashe, 28 of Corinth, Miss., was injured and transported from the scene to the MED in Memphis where she remains in serious condition. A 10-year-old male passenger in Richardson’s vehicle was also injured. He was transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis in critical condition and his condition was upgraded to good shortly before press time last Monday.
