Brian D. Dickey, a different man than Register of Deeds Brian Dickey, ran from the Tennessee Highway Patrol last Monday through the woods after a routine traffic stop but later turned himself in near Guys. According to Trooper Kennie Lamberth, Dickey was stopped on Allen McCoy Road for a seat belt violation. Dickey then turned into a field road and ran his pickup truck into a ditch, getting stuck in the water and flooding out his engine. Dickey and a passenger then ran through the field into the woods. Dickey later called Lamberth and told him he wished to turn himself in. Dickey did so and was placed under arrest for being a habitual motor vehicle offender and taken to the McNairy County Jail. Dickey’s passenger was not apprehended. Being caught driving after being adjudged a habitual motor vehicle offender is a Class E felony under state law. A conviction is punishable by one to six years in prison and a fine of up to $3,000. A person can be adjudged a habitual motor vehicle offender after conviction of three prohibited offenses in a three-year period or five prohibited offenses in a ten-year period. Prohibited offenses can range from vehicular homicide, reckless driving, driving under the influence and other offenses.

The award recognized Kirk’s overall performance throughout 2012, said Sgt. Barry Siler, Kirk’s colleague in the THP. “He is a very self motivated trooper.”

Though Bethel Springs homeowners with uninsured storm damage will not be getting federal aid, private faith-based help is available, according to Disaster Recovery Coordinator Norma Smith. Anyone with storm damage that is not covered by insurance can pick up a work order request form at City Hall, if they have not already. For those with damage not covered by insurance, help will be provided by the United Methodist Committee on Relief and the Baptist Convention. Crews from these organizations are projected to begin work at the end of March. Smith said there were just a few homeowners with
