The first with which the two youths are charged occurred on May 25. The two young people are charged in Juvenile Court with two counts of burglary and one count of theft of property. Christopher said the only thing apparently missing is walkie-talkies. He said the motive for the break-ins was apparently just kids getting into mischief. This is the third burglary in the past
couple of months. Kevin Lane, of Stantonville, and Shawn Wisniewski, of Adamsville, were arrested in May in connection to a break-in at AES in April. Six iPods, an iPad, a cellphone and a laptop computer were taken in this burglary. Both will appear in General Sessions Court on July 11 to face charges of burglary other than a habitation and theft.

Heather Shelton Gunn, originally from Ramer, has been crowned the top weight loser in the state. Gunn was also crowned as the top weight loser for a Take Off Pounds Sensibly group of which she is a member. “I was just crowned the Tennessee state Queen for TOPS on April 6,” Gunn said. Gunn will be going to Calgary, Alberta Canada in July to represent Tennessee in the international recognition day. Created in 1948, TOPS is the oldest weight loss organization in the state. Gunn’s highest recorded weight was 367 pounds, but she is now down to around 200 pounds. She had various health problems associated with her weight, such as high blood pressure, insulin resistance and sleep apnea. Up until she lost all of the weight, Gunn had never been at a normal weight. “I just got progressively larger. More than anything, it was just a combination of bad choices. I just got bigger and bigger. I tried numerous, numerous diet plans—all kinds of extreme diets—different programs. I finally found something that worked for me. On Feb. 14, 2011, I walked into Metabolic Research Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and they have a program. I was educated on what was going to work for my body best to lose the weight, and I started seeing progress relatively quickly. It kept going and going and here I am now, the biggest loser at their center,” Gunn said. Gunn said she lost the 170 pounds over a 14 or 15 month period just by putting the right combinations of food in her diet. Gunn says she exercises a whole lot more now that she is thinner.

Pictured above is Heather Gunn before and after her weight loss. Gunn lost nearly 170 pounds and was crowned the top weight loser in the state of Tennessee for Take Off Pounds Sensibly. “Initially, I was not physically capable of exercising much, but I’ve gone canoeing, kayaking, snow skiing—things that I never in my life would have ever imagined I would do. I’m experiencing life now in a whole new body,” Gunn said. Gunn has now reached her weight goal. “I was told by a plastic surgeon last year that I do not need to lose any more weight,”
Gunn said. Gunn appeared on the television show, the Doctors, which aired March 20. “I never thought that this amazing weight loss story would be my story,” Gunn said about her appearance on the show. “It allows you to do whatever eating pro-

she ran off the right side of the roadway, struck several trees and overturned. Brown suffered incapacitating injuries, according to the report. Brown was transported by Emergency Medical Services ambulance to McNairy Regional Hospital. MRH has told the Independent Appeal in the past that it is against their policy to release the condition of patients. A passenger in the vehicle was not transported for medical treatment.
The Ramer Ruritan Club with the help of the community and local businesses is planning to construct a war memorial at the Civic Center. The Ruritans hope to have the memorial completed by Veterans’ Day in November, according to Ruritans’ President Wayne Elam. The project has been in the works for about six months to a year. The Ramer Ruritan Veterans’ Memorial Plaza will be funded by the sale of bricks with the names of veterans that will be displayed at project, which is expected to cost about $15,000. “We would like to give everyone the opportunity to have their loved ones’ who have served our country displayed at this memorial,” said a statement from the Ruritans. Anyone wishing to volunteer their time in preparing the site for the memorial is welcome to do so. The volunteers’ names will be displayed on a bench that will be part of the memorial. Sponsorships are also available. Sponsors’ names will be on a roadside monument. For more information on the memorial contact Wayne Elam at (731) 645-0137, Mike Smith at (731) 989-5111, (731) 608-1539 or (731) 645-3972, Jackie Suggs at (731) 935-5900, Thomas Hildebrandt at (731) 645-4833, or Daniel Burkeen at (901) 413-6988.
