A Selmer man has been arrested in connection with an Aug. 26 burglary on Lilly Tyler Rd. Due to some quick thinking on the part of a sheriff’s deputy and the resident’s home security system, authorities were able to identify a suspect in the case and recover the victim’s stolen property almost immediately. McNairy County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the call around 11 a.m. when the homeowner called to report that a man was in their garage. According to the incident report, the

According to the report, Lt. James Frazier and Deputy Brad Fuller made contact with the victim’s neighbor, Kaleb Denton Brown later that day. Brown who lives two blocks from the burglary, said that King was at his residence earlier but left when the two had an argument. Brown said at that time and during a later discussion with authorities that he had no contact with King following their argument. King of Selmer was arrested last week and taken to the McNairy County Jail, he has since bonded out. King is charged with burglary, theft of property and criminal trespass in the case and is scheduled in court on Oct. 31.

resident reported that they made contact with the burglar in the garage prior to the call asking him, “May I help you?” The subject reportedly responded saying that he was looking for a Mr. Brown, but could not remember the man’s first name. Using video surveillance equipment and the resident’s eye witness report, deputies identified Jamie D. King as the intruder. While at the victim’s residence, Deputy Keenan Lamberth was able to find several pieces of stolen property valued at more than $500 hidden on the victim’s property including a chain saw, generator and a battery.

Monogram Refrigeration, LLC in Selmer builds high-end refrigerators for households throughout the world while employing 161 people and bringing money to West Tennessee. And the future outlook for Monogram is improving as company officials plan a new product line that will create more jobs. The company provides a healthy economic impact that ripples through the region. It’s an important part of McNairy County’s industrial mix, said Ted Moore, executive director of the McNairy Regional Alliance. “We’re very proud to have Monogram in our community, and we appreciate the economic impact they have on Selmer and McNairy County,” Moore said. Monogram Refrigeration has two facilities north of Selmer totaling 130,000 square feet that churn out about 10,000 units each year, said Operations Manager and Lean Leader Tyrone Hopper. The company manufactures 35 different models of high-end products, most of which are energy-efficient models. The Selmer-made refrigerators with sleek stainless steel or paneled exteriors that match kitchen cabinetry – are shipped to upscale homes in markets such as California; Florida; Washington, D.C; and New York City. The products are competitive, and the company’s future in McNairy County is bright, officials say. In fact, Moore said the company plans on investing several million dollars into the facility to produce a new refrigerator line. And Monogram Refrigera-

Lee and Hopper say the area’s strong and committed workforce has played a big part in the company’s success. Monogram employees are committed and flexible team players that are always working for ways to improve the facility, Hopper said. And the jobs they fill are

good ones, Lee said. The company offers a great benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement contributions and tuition assistance, he said. It also likes to promote from within, and it’s not uncommon for production workers to make it into management, Lee said. “We give people the opportunity to move up in the company.” The plant first opened its doors in 1986, and its workforce has fluctuated with the condition of the economy. Although the plant has changed ownership in the past, Monogram is committed to Selmer

and McNairy County, Lee said. It is one of the top contributors to the local United Way and frequently sponsors local fundraising initiatives. “We’re constantly participating in the community,” Lee said. Its employees also participate in awareness campaigns such as Relay for Life and contribute to local causes such as school supplies and clothing drives. Why? For Monogram and its employees, McNairy County is home. “I’ve lived in West Tennessee my whole life,” Hopper said. “I think it’s a great area, and it’s a great place for kids to grow up.”

The Selmer Senior Center’s Team TCB (short for Taking Care of Business) competed and won the Senior Brain Games Aug. 22 against nine other senior centers in the Southwest District. The Senior Brain Games, initiated by The Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability and Vanderbilt University is designed to highlight the senior adults that we serve with a specific focus on the need for continued social interaction and mental stimulation that are so important for a healthier aging population. Teams

work together to answer questions pooling their knowledge base, and in the case of varying answers among the team members, choosing which answer to submit. Every Senior Center across the state is participating in these games. “I think we have a very good team,” said the center’s director Hollie Knight. “It amazes me at how much they know.” The team, made up of Glenda Barron, Faye McCormick and Lynn Crow will next compete on Sept. 13 at the Southwest Tennessee Development District in Jackson Tenn. They will face the Benton County
