Ex-boyfriend confesses in Bethel arson
INSIDE THIS WEEK
By Jeff Whitten Head News Writer
Danny Doles, 45, of Bethel Springs, confessed last Wednesday to burning down his ex-girlfriend Leah McGee’s house on 7870 Buena Vista Road in Bethel on New Year’s Day, according to a report provided by the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department. Inside the house were McGee’s two dogs, a Shiba Inu and Lab mix named Lilith and a miniature Dachshund named Milly. The day after the fire, McNairy County Volunteer Fire Chief Darrell Goodrum found an SD card from a trail cam in the course of a follow-up investigation. This card contained photos of a person entering the dwelling before the fire and exiting after. McGee had installed the camera after coming home and finding a broken window the week before. After his confession, Doles was charged with arson and two counts of animal cruelty for the death of McGee’s dogs. Doles was then transported to Hardeman County Jail on warrants in that county.

The McNairy County Education Center was officially rededicated as the Charlotte Boley Education Center last Sunday. Dozens of people were on hand to congratulate the former director of McNairy County Adult Education.
The McNairy County Education Center was officially renamed for Charlotte Boley, who served as one of the first directors of McNairy County Adult Education, and is credited with growing the program into what it has become today. Ironically, the building which Boley helped to secure so her students and the adult education program would have enough room to work, could barley hold the flood of dignitaries, family, friends and colleagues who came out to support her. “Ms. Charlotte, this is an unprecedented thing because this is the first (educational) facility in McNairy that we have named after somebody,” McNairy County Mayor Ronnie Brooks said. “That is a very small tribute to what you have done in McNairy County because, this program, and the success it has... is a direct result of what you have done.” As a former school teacher himself, Brooks joked with Boley that
