An afternoon fire destroyed a family home on the 100 block of Front Street in downtown Bethel Springs last Friday. The fire may have begun under the wooden home, but it quickly spread throughout the rest of the house as firefighters from Bethel Springs and Selmer worked to battle the blaze. Collections for the family are being accepted at the Bethel Springs Town Hall and can be dropped off during normal business hours.
An Enville, Tenn. man is $1 million richer this week after claiming his prize from a Feb. 20 Powerball drawing. George Moore purchased the winning ticket, which hit five of five balls in the regular drawing, but missed the Powerball. The ticket was purchased at the White Oak Shell station in Milledgeville. The $1 million ticket was from the Powerball drawing on Feb. 20, a drawing in which a lucky Californian purchased a jackpot winning ticket worth $425.3 million. While a $1 million prize is far short of the jackpot, its not peanuts either. For the last two weeks, residents in the small town of 265 people wondered which of their neighbors was Tennessee's newest millionaire. “Everyone is just wanting to know who it was,” said Tara Kosark, manager of the White Oak Shell station in Milledgeville. Kosark said that it was the largest ticket that she knows of that has ever been sold at the station, and she said they haven't determined which of her employees sold the ticket. Moore took home $750,000 after federal taxes were automatically deducted from his winnings, said Kym Gerlock, a spokesperson for the Tennessee lottery. Gerlock said that Moore declined to have his photo taken when he claimed the prize, but said that the lottery will be providing the White Oak Shell with a banner to recognize them for selling the $1 million ticket. To date, the Tennessee Lottery has raised more than $2.91 billion for education in the state.
Searches executed in Holly Bobo case
Spring TBI: ‘To say we have a suspect in this case would be premature’ Forward By Christen Coulon Managing Editor

Nearly three years after her abduction, there has been a possible development in the Holly Bobo abduction case. Following searches at several area locations, authorities arrested a Decatur County man on unrelated charges of aggravated assault after the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations executed search warrants at various locations in connection with the Bobo case. Zach Adams, 29, was arrested last weekend at his Parsons, Tenn. home following one of the searches. Despite the arrest, a TBI spokesperson was careful to say in a prepared statement that Adams is not considered a suspect in the Bobo case at this time, and offered little additional information regarding the area searches. “I do not have addresses at this time, and I cannot release any information about the search warrant executions,”
said Illana T. Tate, executive officer at the TBI. “To say we have a suspect in this case would be premature. We have been working leads on this case which led to the search warrant executions. There is no other information about this case that I can release.” Adams was formally charged in Decatur County General Sessions Court on the aggravated assault charges last Monday. The court set Adams bond at $1 million. “I’m not the one,” Adams was reported to have said while speaking to a reporter from the Jackson Sun following the hearing. The investigation has yielded little results in recent months, and the recent developments have sparked hope with many in the area who have followed the case. Bobo was abducted on the morning of April 13, 2011 outside of her home in Darden, Tenn. At that time, she was seen being led away from the carport of her
