Hamptons Restaurant Week After serving more than 209,000 prix fixe meals since 2003, Hamptons Restaurant Week kicks off its tenth annual campaign next month. From Sunday, March 18 through Sunday, March 25, participating restaurants offer three-course prix fixe menus for $19.95 or $24.95 or both $19.95 and $24.95, which will be available every night they are open except Saturday when it must only be offered until 7 PM. East End vineyards and lodging entities broaden the scope of the eight-day promotion by offering exclusive Hamptons Restaurant Week deals. Vineyards take part by offering discounts in tasting rooms – 15-percent off select bottles, 20-percent off select cases or a $5 flight of five tasting wines – or by offering restaurant participants a wholesale discount on wines to sell

to diners for $19.95 and/or $24.95 per bottle during the week. Lodging properties will offer special rates that may include 15-percent off accommodations; stay two nights, get the third night free; or stay one night, get the second at half price. Residents and visitors are given the chance to save while dining out at new restaurants (or old favorites), sampling vintages from local and notable vineyards, or staying at a unique lodging property before the start of “high season.” For participants, this media-able, valuepricing campaign delivers a surge in business, a return on investment and community goodwill as they put their best foot forward to attract new and returning patrons. The campaign has partnered with Maureen’s Haven, a local organization that seeks to address the issue of homelessness, by “Bringing

Method Sauté the thinly sliced onions in a hot pan with a little oil until caramelized. Crack all the eggs into a mixing bowl, add the Parmesan cheese, cream, salt, and pepper then whisk together. Heat a deep sauté pan, add a touch of oil and the egg mixture. Continuously stir the eggs in the pan with a rubber spatula as if making scrambled eggs. Once the eggs begin to firm up, remove the pan from the heat and form the slightly loose eggs into a round shape in the pan. Add the caramelized onions and Gruyere cheese, place in a 350 degree oven and bake for 7 minutes. While the frittata is baking whisk together the sour cream, mayonnaise, vinegar, olive oil, and Old Bay to make a cool dressing for your side salad of greens. When the frittata is cooked slide it out of the pan with a rubber spatula onto a cutting board. Slice and serve with the salad and a drizzle of dressing and some hot sauce. www.chefjoecipro.com

ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) You should buy a lottery ticket. The energy is all about destabilizing that which has become too rigid. You tend to dislike change, even though you know that the only way to grow and evolve is for us all to change. You like the idea of everyone else doing it, yet would prefer that you not have to. Too bad. Enjoy the growth and the change.

CANCER (June 22 - July 23) Pay close attention to the words you use this week and make sure that you are indeed saying exactly what you mean and that you do indeed mean what you say. A little extra care taken now may prevent long-term misunderstandings. Trust what you feel and try to get as specific as possible in describing those feelings.

TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) Go for it! That is your mantra for this week. Give yourself permission to take a chance and to go out on a limb. The energy is lined up in such a way that you will have no better chance than right now to succeed at something you may have been too afraid to take a chance on before.

LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) It may seem that things are welling up emotionally and you may not be able to find just the right way to express all that you are feeling. Fear not, this is only temporary and little by little you will find ways to express all you are feeling. In the mean time enjoy yourself in what you are able to experience and express.

HAMPTON DAZE MAGAZINE

VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) You do need to pay attention to having all the facts in a situation, for it is possible that you may be misunderstood or if you go off without all the facts you may open yourself to a very disturbing situation. People around you may be mirroring your anger, see if you can see it in yourself and find a way to resolve it. Don’t over-react. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) Change is good, right? So, since this is the case do not get freaked out if some things change suddenly or unexpectedly. You may want to play the lottery since the energy is unstable and expansive. Change happens for the purpose of growth. That is what the energy is all about. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) Things may indeed feel a little weird, and it may seem that no one is understanding what you are saying and yet if you pay close attention you will be able to see the small

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) Keep moving along slow and steady, for you will surely win this race. Speak your mind and heart and simply keep one foot moving in front of the other. There is no better way to use the energy right now than to make steady progress toward your future goal. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) This is a great time to be productive and make great strides in work and business. On the emotional front, however, even though you may be feeling a great deal of emotion you may not have an adequate way to express it. Get creative and do indeed find a way to be radiating how truly satisfied you are right now. PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) I know you don’t like when things begin to get too complicated and yet you may find that you are the one who is complicated during this time. Feelings and emotions seem to be at odds with what you know you want to do and yet you do need to muddle through. Trust your inner knowing about these things and try to communicate as clearly as possible. NOTE: If you were born at the end or beginning of a sign, read the sign before or after your birthday. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Your feelings must lead, that is really the only good option right now. Even if they don’t make sense, even if it doesn’t feel comfortable to rely so heavily upon them, you must allow your feelings to take center stage. And oh, yeah, make sure you are telling the rest of us what you are feeling. It would be a shame to go through this alone, when we are all waiting to hear from you.

It’s hard to believe now that the game of basketball could be ushered into a new era in 1971, 80 years after the game was invented. But it was, thanks to a Long Islander, Julius Erving. Doctor J flew through the air, almost defying gravity. His dunks have now become a staple in the National Basketball Association as players try to emulate the moves made famous by Erving. Erving grew up in Roosevelt and played at the local high school. He attended the University of Massachusetts for two years, joined the American Basketball Association team, the Virginia Squires, and returned home to play with the New Jersey Nets not far from his childhood residence. Erving went on to play in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers. By the time he retired at age 37 Erving won three championships, four Most Valuable Player Awards, and three scoring titles. He is the fifthhighest scorer in professional basketball history, with 30,026 points (NBA and ABA combined). He is the only player to have been voted Most Valuable Player in both the ABA and the NBA. An accomplished rebounder and defender, Erving nonetheless will be remembered for his dunking. The word “slam” was first used to describe his dunking style; it has now entered the vernacular to mean “dunk.” In 1976, at the ABA allstar game in Denver, Erving became the fist player to dunk from the foul line, creating a nationwide frenzy. After the NBA/ABA merger the contest was reintroduced eight years later, again in Denver. It has been a much anticipated event ever since. Erving was named to the NBA’s 50th anniversary team and is a member of the NBA Hall Of Fame. Erving was in the news after his career ended for a more notorious reason. He had secretly fathered a child with a sportswriter while he was married. The child grew up to be the tennis player Alexandra Stevenson and made the semifinals at Wimbledon in 1999, revealing her secret before the crush of press that engulfed her after one victory. The two, strangers at the time, finally reconciled in 2008. Julius and Turquoise Erving were subsequently divorced after raising four children. Erving was chosen to the all-Long Island team as a senior at Roosevelt in 1968. He wasn’t the Player Of The Year, however – that trophy went to Bobby Vacca of Pierson High School in Sag Harbor. spiritual counsel on the East End for more than 20 years. Reel Deal

By Miles X. Logan

* Miles Top Pick Visit indyeastend.com for up to the minute theater listings and show times. An asterisk after the title denotes Miles’ top picks.

Arkin. Billy Crudup co-stars. The film has a few Fargo-like moments but it tends to plod along at times.

Coming Soon

The Vow (PG-13) Oh boy – how many times have you seen this one: a couple falls in love, one gets in an accident and suffers amnesia, and the other has to rebuild their love from scratch. Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams are the star-crossed couple; Jessica Lange and Sam Neill co-star. It’s a snorer. Add a star if you’re brain dead.

Thin Ice (R) Greg Kinnear and Lea Thompson star in this little suspense thriller from Jill Sprecher, who wrote and produced. Kinnear is a con man in frigid Wisconsin w h o t h i n k s h e ’s found the perfect sucker – a retired farmer played perfectly by Alan

New On DVD The Rum Diary (R) Johnny Depp is infatuated with the writer Hunter S. Thompson, whom he’s already played once. This time around he takes a Thompson novel whose central character just happens to be a booze-swilling cad just like Thompson. Depp loves doing these quirky characters, but unfortunately Thompson was oftentimes a self-absorbed jerk who, frankly, was as crazy as dingbat.

Now Playing The Secret World of Arrietty (G) The latest from Disney Animation is a marvelous little story about a tiny 14-year-old girl, who lives in the recesses of a suburban home

unbeknownst to the owners. The little girl makes rare excursions above the floorboards to gather supplies, and on one such foray, a 12 year-old boy discovers her. Her existence, and the existence of all like her, depends on him. Directors Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Gary Rydstrom have made a tender and touching film that will resonate with young and old alike. In Darkness * (R) You may have to go to the city to catch the latest from the director Agnieszka Holland, but this film is well worth the trip. Based on a true story, In Darkness tells the tale of a sewer worker in Nazioccupied Poland who is paid to hide a group of Jews in labyrinth of the sewer system. It is a story of survival and much more. Don’t miss it.
