For Autumn/Winter 2015, Kanye West and Adidas Originals unveiled YEEZY SEASON 1, a collection of apparel and footwear. Described by West as the world’s first “solutions-based” clothing line, the individual pieces define a style that matches the relentless pace of contemporary lives. “I don’t want the clothes to be the life,” he says. “I want the clothes to help the life.” Presented during New York Fashion Week, the show was conceptualized by West in close collaboration with renowned contemporary artist Vanessa Beecroft. Guests including Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Kim Kardashian West, Rihanna, Drake, Justin Bieber, P. Diddy, Kris Jenner, Kendall Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, George Condo, Anna Wintour, Spike Jonze, Russell Simmons, Big Sean, Pete Wentz, Pusha T, A$AP Ferg, Steven Klein, 2Chainz, Cassie, Alexander Wang, Kehinde Wiley, Tom Sachs, Gia Coppola, Travis Scott, A-Trak, Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn, Hailey Baldwin, and Adidas athletes John Wall and Von Miller. With this collection, West’s goal is to absolve consumers of dressing’s daily stress by creating a line of high-quality essentials that can be freely combined in infinite ways—“like Legos,” he says. For the designer this means stripped-down, comfortable, and unpretentious clothes for a “modern jet-set couple,” pieces to be worn from the gym to the office to a meeting to the airport and everywhere in between. “I wanted something that felt like New York or Paris or Tokyo or Santa Barbara or Chicago—a worldliness and an ease.”

cycle. Free-form brainstorming with no goal or direction can accomplish more than anything this month.
ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) You will be slapping yourself around like a bass fiddle if you are not careful. Things are going great and it’s that which makes you nervous, hence, your habitual tendency to be hard on yourself for being so base and so low comes rushing to the surface. Save it for one who needs your constructive criticism more than you. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) You have been able to play to the front row swells and the upper balcony proletariat for a while now and it’s been great. This month it becomes very clear that you are going to have to choose between love and money. You will forget where you were once you decide, because your new love is going to last a long time. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) It is time to act like you want to send out a stack of “Wish you were here” cards. You might even have to send out a few lingering glances and your phone number on a matchbook before the one who has been taking you for granted takes notice. Unfortunately, you don’t have much to lose right now,
so have fun. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) You have so many big ideas right now you have to get a new computer to keep track of them all. That new direction is, naturally, branching out into three directions. Do not worry about having so many irons in the fire. It’s part of your Grand Plan, no? Soon, there will be a shake-out and what’s left standing will be great. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) Speed things up now, it’s time for everything to go faster. There won’t be time for anyone to feel sorry for himself or herself, including you, if you make a schedule and stick to it. You just learned a big lesson about love that applies in every area of your life. Why not apply it to that one area where you think nothing will help? VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) You are feeling more yourself than ever before. Finally, the world is catching up to where you think you are. You may be a little exhausted from trying to keep that old flame alive, but this can be the start of a great, new
LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) Just when you thought you could not take it any more, the sweet-talk started. It has seduced you to change your plans and that is good. The way to swing it is to avoid being reduced to giving someone else the upper hand just for not being mean. Stay tuned into the whole group and improvise away when it’s your turn. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) A minor scene might require that you pretend to care, even if you could not care less. Being bored and showing it can get you in trouble with more than one person. Acting “as if” is better than acting out, even if they deserve to listen to you lay it down. Just listen with a sympathetic ear, even if you feel sorry for you. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) This week, when you can, don’t just eat your vegetables, buy, wash, cut, and cook them, too. You need all the green energy you can muster, so eat your greens and save a few dollars because new demands are going to be made on your time, energy and money. With that little extra in your kick you’ll be ready to go. CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) You are playing for very high stakes and you love it. However, you must realize that the reason you are staying up so late is not because you have to or you want to. It’s because you are thinking too much. To avoid losing your competitive edge, spend some of that
IN THE NEWS
energy keeping secrets and get some sound sleep. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) The events of the past month have you wanting to be up-beat about all sorts of practical matters. But put down the business section and bury your head in travel and leisure. It’s time to eat, drink, and be merry, and no heavy lifting. It’s okay to get off the treadmill. You will run faster when you get back on again. PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) Feeling so hot that you are starting to boil? It’s your madness over money that is leading you to blow your cool. Chill out or else another thing you will regret blowing will be too much of your hard-earned bread in the heat of passion. Cover the waterfront, either harbor, bay, or beach, and let the trade winds cool you off. NOTE: If you were born at the end or beginning of a sign, also read the sign before or after your birthday. Bobbi Kristina Brown, 1993 The daughter of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston hovers near death as of this writing, a tragic tale that spans two generations. Her father, Bobby, found fame as a young man in the “boy band” New Edition. Her mother Whitney was a pop goddess, a superstar with a string of number one hits who also enjoyed a successful film career. By the time their daughter was born, though, the couple was known more for their partying and bickering than for their music. After they broke up young Bobbi Kristina lived with her mom but reportedly spent time with her father as well, though he had several brushes with the law. Houston herself came from rock royalty. Her cousin was the songstress Dionne Warwick and her aunt none other than Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul. Houston tragically succumbed to an overdose two years ago at age 48. Bobbi Kristina was found earlier this year face down in a bathtub, as her mother was as well. The bizarre circumstance, coincidence or not, has fueled speculation that Bobbi tried to commit suicide like her mother, or had been taking drugs and drinking. Rumors are flying. Her “boyfriend” Nick Gordon, who claims to be her husband, was taken in by Houston and lived with her growing up. There is speculation the pair argued violently before Bobbi Kristina was found. There is also the matter of her money should she pass on – her mother left the entire estate to Bobbi Kristina. Tragically, it is said the young lady inherited her mother’s talent – Bobbi Kristina had told friends she "Unchain My Heart" by Tina was preparing to launch a singing career. Instead, she strugglesAndrews for her life.

Red Dress Dinner On Friday, Atlantis Banquets & Events in Riverhead hosts the 12th annual Red Dress Dinner – Girls Night Out from 7 to 11 PM in the Sea Star Ballroom. Wear your favorite red outfits to raise awareness of heart disease and especially its effects on women. According to the American Heart Association heart disease or stroke kills a woman in the United States every minute. Nancy Kouris, founder of the event, wanted to ensure her friends were aware of the dangers of Cardiovascular Disease while still having a fun evening out. “Why not be informed while enjoying the company of other women in friendship and fun?” Keeping women informed is a big reason for the Red Dress Dinner. Only one in five American women believe that heart disease is her greatest health threat, yet 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors. Portions of the proceeds from the Red Dress Dinner will go to the American Heart Association. The Red Dress Dinner will feature a sit down dinner created by Executive Chef Sean Fountaine, complimentary wine, a cash bar, DJ and dancing and
raffle prizes. Each year the dinner gains more attention and attendees. In 2003 at the inaugural event, there were 37 guests. This year organizers hope to get 300 women to dine, dance and learn more about heart disease and staying healthy. For tickets, call 631-208-9200 ext. 426.

Broadway Reporting From
By Isa Goldberg
(& Sometimes Off)
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel An asterisk (*) denotes an Indy Best Movie pick.
Coming Soon The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (PG) The original was one of the best movies of 2012, and one of the most underrated, so it was good news indeed when the producers opted for an encore. Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, and Bill Nighy are back, as is Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) as the innkeeper trying to remake his shaky hotel into a Mecca for senior citizens while juggling his own wedding plans. Richard Gere plays a new arrival who stirs things up. It’s not up to par with the original, but like a long lost friend it’s a pleasure to have it back. New To Theaters ’71 (R) Jack O’Connell stars as a British soldier in Belfast who is separated from his unit and forced to make it through the night in extremely hostile territory. It’s a grim reminder of a troubled time, but the pacing – the film takes place over one night – will annoy some viewers. New On DVD Birdman * This is the golden season for DVDs and streaming movies as the Oscar winners avail themselves of the secondary market. Birdman captured the statue for Best Director and Best Picture and deservedly so. Michael Keaton was passed over for Best Actor but is magnificent as a washed up action hero. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu is a master of pacing, and Edward Norton turns in a stalwart supporting performance. It’s a mustsee.
Independent / 20th Century Fox
Now Playing Everly (R) This quirky, offbeat thriller starring Salma Hayek would be interesting if not for the incessant blood spilling and violence. Be forewarned. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 (R) It’s the worst movie of all time. No, it’s the second worst movie of all time. No it’s the . . . the debate rages, but one thing is for sure: they don’t come any stupider. Pity yourself if you find yourself laughing. Wild Tales (R) The writer/director Damián Szifron takes us on a dizzying trip that indeed is wild, and there are enough twists and turns to bedazzle even the most skeptical viewer. It’s about all the twists and turns of life – and about what happens when some of us want to get even. Kingsmen: The Secret Service (R) Think of young James Bond wannabes, and you have the premise for this stylish mystery. Veteran Brits Michael Caine, and Colin Firth costar and Mark Hamill (Star Wars) is back on the big screen. It’s slick, a little too predictable, but worth a look. Fifty Shades Of Grey (R) The kinky international bestseller comes to the big screen and Dakota Johnson, the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, becomes an instant screen siren. Jamie Doran is the “normal” guy into all things sado and them some. It’s not going to play well in Kansas, trust us.
Rasheeda Speaking Sheila Callaghan’s new play, entitled Everything You Touch, focusing on the world of fashion, (circa 1970s, Greenwich Village), reveals the humanity and inhumanity of those who are touched by it. As is her wont, Callaghan depicts a world in which issues about body image and identity, as well as the clash between reality and fantasy, collide, creating a stage piece that is far more graphic than it is coherent. The characters we meet are shape shifters, crisscrossing time periods, and emerging from real events into imagined ones. At the center of it all, Victor (Christian Coulson), a haughty narcissistic fashion designer, gets trapped in the “untouchable” world of success, and along with it, the fallout that happens when he drives everyone else away. Into the mix, Jess (Miriam Silverman), a chubby, albeit successful techie (we must be talking contemporary times here) emerges with her own obsessions with body image and alienation. She later appears as the daughter of Esme (Tonya Glanz), Victor’s muse, another hard driven character. And as for the others – well, who they are to one another, and why their lives intersect, is all part of an openly phantasmagoric scheme, rife with ambiguity about identity. More than anything, viewers will enjoy the clothes by costume designer Jenny Foldenauer: anthropomorphic designs with supermodels in antlers, another who looks like a horse, and still another with a bubble gum machine around her head. It’s a freakish pageant that opens to reveal a self-immolating world. Equally striking are the painfully thin beauties who strut the boards in a visually cunning production with sets and properties by Francois-Pierre Couture and John Burton.
Nixon’s Debut Cynthia Nixon makes an adept directorial debut off Broadway with Rasheeda Speaking, a dramedy about racial tensions and office politics. From what first appears as a heavy handed, overly obvious conflict between two office workers, played by Tonya Pinkins and Dianne Wiest, turns to more “catty” female terrain. Pinkins, as the victim turned victimizer, and Wiest, an overly sensitive office manager turned guntoting racist, play off each other with wonderful finesse. Their boss, a gross and self-serving doctor, played by Darren Goldstein, is a more onedimensional character. He gets his comeuppance when the tables turn in Joel Drake Johnson’s new play, produced by the New Group at the Signature Center. Camp Poe From the realistic to the bizarre, Off Broadway showcases it all. Case in point: Nevermore, the new musical about “The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe,” is as camp as it is ghoulish. From the bizarre costumes (Bretta Gerecke) to the weird hairdos, the musical plays like a Kiss performance set to Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry. Poe’s life was indeed a dark one, marked by death and loss. As fodder for his poetry, poor Poe had a lot to draw on, and playwright, composer, director Jonathan Christenson depicts the most horrifically morose elements, highlighting them as well through allusions to the writer’s works. As Edgar Allen, Scott Shpeley embraces the iconic image of the tormented artist and mad genius. The other characters are brought to us by a troupe of traveling actors who boldly portray those who were central in Poe’s life. For gore gashing horror, Nevermore is poised for a cult following.
