Katy’s Courage Share the love for Katy’s Courage 5K on April 28 starting at Water Street in Sag Harbor at 8:30 AM. Katy’s Courage 5K celebrates the life, generosity and bravery of Sag Harbor 12-year-old Katy Stewart who lost her battle with cancer in December 2010. Net proceeds from this year’s race will support scholarships for Sag Harbor and East Hampton students, pediatric cancer research at Memorial Sloan Cancer Center in Manhattan, and the establishment of a fund toward the creation of the first childhood bereavement center on the East End of Long Island. To register and for more info visit www. katyscourage.org. SOFO Goes SOHO Don’t miss a hot night at a cool museum at the 23rd annual summer benefit for the South Fork Natural History Museum. The Independent is proud to announce its lead media sponsorship of “SOFO Goes SOHO” on June 16 from 6 to 8:30 PM. The evening, which takes place at the museum, will honor Christie

Brinkley for her contributions as a concerned environmentalist, especially on the East End of Long Island which is her home with her three children, Alexa Ray, Jack and Sailor. The energy for the evening will be pumped up by celebrity DJs Nick Cohen and Alexandra Richards, daughter of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards and famous fashion model Patti Hansen. Event chairs for the star-studded event are Kim Pape, Lisa Schifter, Lyss Stern. Samantha Yanks and Gail Tobias.
Make sure to wear your hottest “hipster” outfit for a night which will be a huge departure from the eternal “dinner dance.” The entertainment and clubby decor will make a “rocker” out of the most refined party goers. Complimented by open bar and fabulous, sumptuous hors d’oevures, this is an event you do not want to miss! Regular tickets are $250 and up and Jr. tickets, for those 30 and under, are $125. A private cabana area which will include dedicated staff with food and bottle service is available to all sponsors that donate $5000 and up. For tickets and further information contact Linda B. Shapiro at LBS Productions, 631-329-5480 or email lbspro@optonline.net. For more information on the South Fork Natural History Museum visit www.sofo.org.

Today’s Birthday: Oleg Cassini, 1913

With his aristocratic demeanor, eloquent manners and impeccable diction, one might have thought the fashion designer Oleg Cassini was royalty. And in fact, he was -- Count Oleg Cassini Loiewski was the son of Countess Marguerite Cassini and her husband, Count Alexander Loiewski, a diplomat. His family fled Russia during the revolution and moved to Paris. The young count and his family settled in Italy, where he developed a flair for designing and became a top-notch tennis player as well. He moved to Hollywood when war broke out in Europe, and with his aristocratic manner, good looks, and tennis prowess, attracted an “A” list of clients, including the major movie houses. He became an American citizen so he could join the Army after Pearl Harbor, and served for five years. He opened his own fashion house in New York after his tour ended. Contrary to legend he was already wildly successful when he started dressing Jacqueline Kennedy in 1960. The “Jackie Look” became an international phenomenon. Cassini was married twice, once to the actress Gene Tierney, with whom he had two daughters. He had a long relationship with Grace Kelley and the couple were once engaged. Cassini died in Manhasset in 1996, and is considered the most influential designer of the 20th century – many of his iconic designs are still in production.

Week of April 12, 2012 ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) The biggest challenge this week will be to look more closely at how you are feeling about things. If you are moved to do something, if something ‘rings all your bells,’ then that will be the direction to move. See things honestly and feel your way forward. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) It is all good. Trust that even the challenges that are in front of you and that all you have gone through to get here are part of some bigger plan. It’s all win/win and you will eventually see why things have unfolded as they have. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Huh? It is okay this week for some things to not make any sense at all. Or at least seem that way. Release expectations, because this week you won’t get what you are expecting. Still, you may find you get exactly what you need. Be grateful for anything that inspires you. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) Do your best to reach toward no attachments this week. You will have a good deal of negotiating power at your disposal, so make sure you do the negotiating without expectation of the outcome. You may get more than you want. Don’t limit yourself with your own expectations. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) Balance, it will all be about finding your balance and then staying in that place. The energy is big and heavy this week, so staying balanced will probably take a good deal of energy. Even if it seems a little boring to make things about balance, it should be challenging enough to entertain you as well. VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) It may not have felt that success has been part of the equation of late, but this week you may see things come together in a different way than in the past. This is an opportunity for you to define success in ways that may have not occurred to you. Is success only about the money? With all that unfolds this week, see where you feel the most successful. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) You may have so many opportunities this week, so many invitations, or so much time on your hands, that the only way to navigate all those choices will be to set some clear priorities for yourself. Take some time and write them down so when you have to make choices your priorities will be clear. Don’t be afraid to say ‘no’ to something; there will be

all try their best not to over-act. They meet boys and blah blah blah. It is, frankly, a waste of time. Add a star of you’re a co-ed freshman at a college that doesn’t require particularly intelligent students.

another choice in a moment. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) There may be disruption or even chaos this week, but if you look deeply within all that is happening, you will see this is all a chance for you to grow beyond your comfort zone. Some things may need to be torn down, but only so that something new can be rebuilt. Trust the process.

War Horse (PG-13) Steven Spielberg’s paean to the four-legged war hero bombed at the Oscars but will get horse lovers crying for sure. It’s definitely worth a look.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) If you are feeling fear or negativity, know that this is from some place inside yourself that just wants to feed off the negativity. You are doing all you can do. There is no failure; there is only the opportunity to quiet the voices in your head that insist on making you wrong. What if you viewed things through the lens of someone who thinks you are just great?

Now Playing

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) Think about your relationships. Who is it that you are aligning yourself with? It is essential that you make sure you are aligned with your tribe, aligned with the people who do truly ‘get’ you and want to help you to be more of who you are. Take a good look around you and make the hard choices. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) External circumstances may not be all they appear to be. Trust your inner voice, your inner sense of things over the externals this week. Your intuition is so high right now that you may dream the answer to a long standing question. Battle the fears and anxieties and trust your gut. PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) You hold the energy of ‘teacher’ this week, so understand that this may be the reason someone crosses your path. A Sagittarian may have a key role in the energy this week. It is a time for working out a knotted up situation, or perhaps a week for breaking through and piercing a bubble of stagnation. Look for the opening. NOTE: If you were born at the end or beginning of a sign, read the sign before or after your birthday. Asher Lee is a professional Astrologer and Tarot reader. The Cabin In The Woods (R ) * You think you know the plot – five (attractive, of course) young people go to a remote cabin in the woods for some down time and horrible things happen. But writers Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, who also directs, have created a delicious plate of surprises for those whose tastes run bloody. Whedon, by the way, is a third generation screenwriter who created Buffy The Vampire Slayer and worked on the Toy Story script. This movie is more than a horror film – it takes the genre, shakes it upside down and recreates it. Don’t miss this film.

New In Theaters Damsels In Distress (PG13) The writer director Whit Stillman (The Last Days Of Disco, Metropolitan) has his fans, but we’re not among them. His latest finds a trio of femme fatales reinventing college life. Greta Gerwig, Megalyn Echikunwoke and Carrie MacLemore

Mirror Mirror (PG-13) A new take on Snow White, with Lily Collins in the title role and Julia Roberts as the evil queen. We prefer the traditional take on the fairy tale. Nathan Lane co-stars. Titanic (In 3-D) James Cameron’s epic classic gets a 3-D re-release for its 15th birthday, and Cameron reportedly employed state-of-theart digital special effects this time around. If you loved it, you’ll love it more. Bully (R) The darling of the Sundance Film Festival is destined to forever more be shown in schools all over the world. Lee Hirsch’s stunning documentary follows five families through the school year, including two that have lost children to suicide. Each of the kids was the target of bullies. The camera goes inside their homes, classrooms, and lives, and flushes out the physical and psychological repercussions of living life in fear. The Deep Blue Sea (R ) A tour-deforce for Rachel Weisz, a romantic caught in a loveless marriage. Terence Davies directs this adaptation of Terence Rattigan’s 1952 play by giving Weisz the ball and getting out of her way. She is indeed brilliant, but some might find the film lags a bit.
