HIFF Highlights

The Hamptons International Film Festival was in full swing this weekend and Hampton Daze was on hand to cover all of the wonderful events! Here are the highlights: Opening night kicked off with a screening of Jeff, Who Lives At Home, a quirky comedy by Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass starring Jason Segel, Ed Helms, and Judy Greer. In Jeff, the lead charactor follows paths throughout the day that change his life forever. We followed a path too. After seeing the first episode of "The League," starring Mark Duplass, earlier that day, I believe it was fate that brought us to this screening. Don’t quite unerstand what I’m talking about? Well, you’ll just have to see the film. Following the opening night film was the opening night party which took place at East Hampton Point. Hampton Daze along with 450 other guests enjoyed specialty cocktails by Ciroc, Ciroc-tails as I like to call them. On Friday there was a screening of The Bully Project, a touching documentary about the bullying problems in this country. Ross School students were in attendance for a special screening. Friday night Baume and Mercier, the luxury Swiss watchmaker, hosted an exclusive party to celebrate the HIFF at Wolffer Estate in Sagaponack. Breakthrough performers Alexander Skarsgard, Stine Fischer Christensen, Ezra Miller, Shailene Woodley, and Anton Yelchin were all in attendance along with Bobby Valentine, Mark Ankner, Tim Fehlbaum, K. Lorrel Manning, Rudy Chavez, Stuart Match Suna, and Karen Arkian. Later Friday night we headed to the 4th Annual Film Industry Party at East Hampton Studios. The famous DJ Rich from Reflex De Roque provided the music along with Sweet Cyanide, and Dan Bailey. Artist Michael Richard

Branning provided performance art throughout the night, while East End Limousine showcased their finest. Also in attendance were Dina Lohan, Stephen Baldwin and owner of East Hampton Studio Michael Wudyka. Saturday we started the day’s festivities by attending the Breakthrough Performers Panel. This years panel included Alexander Skarsgard, Emily Browning, Stine Fisher Christensen, Anton Yelchin, Shailene Woodley, and Ezra Miller. The panel was hosted and moderated by Rajendra Roy and Lina Todd. Next up, a conversation with Matthew Broderick and Alec Baldwin at Guild Hall. The event was extremely well attended, fun and informative, despite an outburst during the Q&A by a woman who screamed something along the lines of, "The FBI told me I was crazy, so now I’m coming to you." Broderick joked about being assassinated, while we were ready to make a run for it. Saturday evening we joined Clarins and W Magazine to celebrate Lauren Bush Lauren for FEED and the HIFF at Nick + Toni's. They were giving out by far the best gift bags we have ever received, knowing that each one would feed 25 children. Saturday night was the annual Filmmaker Reception at SL East. The night was a blast, sipping on Ciroc specialty cocktails including the “Cirocumentary,” “The Ciroc Berry Big Screen,” and the “Ciroc Coconut Uncut.” We’ve provided the recipe for our personal favorite the “Ciroc Coconut Uncut” so you can make the delicious cocktail anytime. Sunday night the Closing Night Reception took place at Race Lane Restaurant. www.hamptondaze.com twitter.com/hamptondazemag

Week of October 20, 2011 ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) Great week to check in with your body and figure out what you need -- on a physical level, that is. You may have gotten yourself a bit run down and now would be a good time to step up your vitamins (or start taking some). Your body will let you know what it needs; you just need to tune in. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) Time to blow the cobwebs out of your head and stay clear. The dark, scary voices need to be shouted away so that you can remember how truly magical your life is. Keep talking and remember that magic happens. Regardless of how things appear to be, know that they can change in a moment. Stay on course. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Great opportunity this week to figure out new ways to express yourself, especially in those areas where you have felt that you are not being heard. Figure out new ways to say those same ‘old’ things. Get creative and be specific. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) Focus, focus, focus. Try not to get distracted by the swirling events and moods and comments around you. What matters most is your focus. It isn’t even so much about creating a ‘good’ plan; it is more about being clear about what your intended goals are. If you stay focused, then you can allow the path to unfold in front of you, sure that each step is part of a bigger plan. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) Great time to take a moment and remember how hard you have worked and all you have endured and survived in order to get to this place. Be a little patient, for you have suffered the worst of it all. Endure the growing pains; a new birth is only moments away. VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) “Fortune favors the bold,” as the saying goes and this would be the week to prove it. Not a time for sitting on the sidelines. Definitely a time to take a stand for what you believe in and be ready and willing to hold your ground, come what may. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) One step at a time shall always be the best choice this week. Take your time and act prudently. Who would think that you would need to be reminded of this? Yet here we are. Slow and steady shall win the race and you need to make sure you take your own advice.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) Love is in the air, and may find you right outside your front door! Real estate and partnership issues can be handled beautifully right now, so take advantage of the energy. Sticking close to home is a good idea; let yourself get cozy with someone you care about. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) Are you living a life of inspiration, spirituality, and beauty? This is actually your job right now: to put into practice all you say you believe about this life and world of ours. You have an opportunity to stand as an example and inspiration to those around you. You will, however, have to remember who you are and choose the life of grace and ideals that your heart truly desires. CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) Changes are indeed happening. I’m sure you can feel it in your core. Even if the changes don’t seem monumental on the outside, if you check in with yourself you will know that the inner changes are HUGE! That is what this time is for – change. Embrace it in whatever form it takes - it’s time. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) Trust your intuition and insights. Those little voices that are nudging you inside are actually the voices you need to listen to right now. Your psyche is trying to tell you something and it would be best if you listened. It is not about logic or making sense, it is about following your intuitive self – at least for right now.

Today’s Bir thday; Michael Gambon (Harry Potter’s Albus Dumbledoor), 1940. Modern filmgoers recognize him from his recurring role in the Harry Potter movies, but Sir. Michael John Gambon has been a highly respected theater actor for decades. He played Philip Marlowe on the BBC and has been featured in dozens of films, including The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover (which also starred Helen Mirren), Barry Levinson’s Toys, and played Fyodor Dostoyevsky in the Hungarian director Károly Makk’s movie The Gambler. He was once asked by the director to take on the James Bond role. He replaced Richard Harris in the Potter series. PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) It’s a delay thing, what can I say? Things may have been kind of chugging right along and it may seem that things have gotten a little unnecessarily stuck. This is just a temporary delay and, believe it or not, it will probably be to your advantage in the long run. Be patient and use the time to dump anything that isn’t serving you along this journey anyway. NOTE: If you were born at the end or beginning of a sign, read the sign before or after your birthday. Method First bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil for the pasta. Now in a small saucepot add the rough chopped onion, milk, and bay leaf and slowly bring to a low boil. Then reduce to a simmer and let cook for 20 minutes. While this is happening we can

make our roux (thickening agent made of flour and butter) you will do this by slowly melting the butter in a sauté pan on low heat, when the butter has completely melted, incorporate the flour by adding it slowly and whisking it in. After the milk and onion mixture has simmered for 20 minutes remove the bay leaf and liquefy using a blender. At this point you will add the truffle oil and the roux to the mixture, resulting in a slightly thicker creamy sauce. Return the sauce to the small saucepot and slowly whisk in the cheeses, adding a little bit at a time. When the sauce is finished, salt and pepper to your liking. While you are finishing your sauce you can cook the pasta in the boiling salted water for about 10 minutes, strain and in a large bowl mix the pasta and cheese sauce and garnish with a little bit of minced chives. www.chefjoecipro.com
