THE INDEPENDENT Q Traveler Watchman
by Asher Lee
Today’s Birthday: Brett Favre, 1969 One of the National Football League’s best ever quarterbacks; Favre in his later years became a polarizing figure. After starting every single game at Green Bay for almost 16 years, he forced a trade, infuriating the Green Bay fans that idolized him. Playing for the New York Jets, Favre was accused of texting obscene photographs of himself to a female employee of the club. The NFL fined him $50,000. On the field though, his accomplishments were legendary. He won three Most Valuable Player titles and led Green Bay to the 1997 Super Bowl title. He started 297 consecutive regular season games and 321 counting playoff games, more than any quarterback in history. He also set unofficial records for retiring and un-retiring, a drama played out often in his final three seasons. Favre played college football at Southern Mississippi, the only college to offer him a scholarship. He began his freshman year as the seventh-string quarterback but became a starter before the season was over. Favre, born and raised in Mississippi, continues to live there with his family and helps coach his high school team. He is a popular pitchman for many products, including Wrangler jeans. ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) Yes with Uranus in your sign it is a wacky time, however it is also a very magical time. Stay open to all the magical things as they unfold. You can count on things changing rather quickly, so if something disappoints, just wait a moment and things will change. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) It is indeed all good. Trust in the win/ win nature of things and trust your path. All roads are leading to the same place and you are safe in this world. With Saturn moving in to your opposite sign, it may be time for all those long-standing projects to get done. Think win/win.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) You will have to just wait and see. There is no clear view of outcomes from the place where you are standing right now. Rather than assume the worst, do your best to remain objective as you allow things to unfold. Jupiter is in your sign; this lends a great deal of protection to you overall. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) You are somehow not thinking creatively enough about the situations in your life. There is a more creative solution, you will need to step out of your box and look for something different, very different. Find the most creative

person you know and ask for their thoughts before deciding anything.
and the less of a chance of getting overwhelmed.
LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) Time for a new style of communication. You may have all the right thoughts and ideas, but you just may not be able to communicate them if you keep doing it in the same old way. Stretch yourself and find a new style so you can be more easily heard.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) It may be time for a little bit of a happy dance. I know you aren’t prone to such acts of joy, but this week it just may be time to celebrate a little. If not dancing, then how about giving yourself permission to be happy. While happiness isn’t actually connected to external things, the energy may shift just enough for you to feel that happiness. Please give yourself permission.
VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) It is about emotional support right now. How often do you find yourself in the role of supporting others? Do you need to do it all those times? Don’t waste your energy on someone who isn’t going to ‘get it’ no matter how you try. And make sure you reach out for the emotional support that you need from those around you. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) Hooray! Saturn moves out of Libra and into Scorpio and so begins the recovery of the last two plus years. This has been a difficult time in many ways for you, Libra, so now comes the time to put the pieces back together. Look around and pick up what you can use from all you have learned, put it in your magic bag and move forward. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) With Saturn moving in to your sign it is time to get very clear about your priorities. This is the time to become aware of what is essential in your life and what is not. Essential is the key word, so look at things through that lens. Is it essential? That is the question. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) You can worry if you want just know that it will not impact anything in reality. Do your best to stay present in your life. Feel yourself in the chair you are in, in the shoes you are in. Feel yourself in this moment. The more you can stay here now, the more easily the energy will flow
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) It is all about communication right now. You need to offer up your opinions and insights within the different situations you find yourself. It would be good if you find a way to communicate that allows for healing to happen rather than coming off as a know it all. Think healing with your intention and then see what comes out of your mouth. PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) Take a break. Time for some emotional healing and renewal. Treat yourself in the most loving way you can imagine. Spend time in or around the water, which is always healing for you, and now may be the perfect time to take advantage of that. A new emotional beginning is at hand, trust this and open your heart to it. NOTE: If you were born at the end or beginning of a sign, read the sign before or after your birthday. Here’s a list of new programs at local libraries. Check in with your local branch for ongoing programs.
Montauk Library 631-668-3377 THURSDAY 10•11•12 • Voices in Time: An Oral History of Montauk 1926-1943 will be shown at 7 PM. SATURDAY 10•13•12 • Fall into Family Fun at Montauk Library! Bring the whole family for crafts and games from 4 to 4:45 PM. Registration is appreciated, but not required.
Dark Shadows Johnny Depp is perfect as Barnabas the vampire, but this isn’t one of Tim Burton’s best efforts. Don’t expect a laugh riot, because a lot of the funny scenes are in the trailer. Instead, the script is meandering, the scenes disjointed, and the whole thing feels like Burton kind of phoned it in. Still, it has its moments. Add a star if you love Depp. Argo (R) Fresh from its run at the Hamptons International Film Festival – and most of the other film festivals in the civilized world – Argo is finally released for the few people who haven’t seen it yet. Ben Affleck’s political thriller has Oscar aspirations, and yes, it is a good one indeed. Based in Iran circa 1979 it’s about six Americans hiding out there during the hostage seize. Affleck directs and stars; funny man John Goodman (“Roseanne”) is a revelation. Alan Arkin, Tate Donavan, and Taylor Schilling co-star. A must see film.
New To Theaters
The Paperboy (R) The director, Lee Daniels (Precious), takes on Pete Drexler’s bestselling novel about the murder of a corrupt local sheriff in a small South Florida town circa 1960. It’s a lurid, depressing, violent, sexually charged tale that doesn’t quite hold up. Matthew McConaughey stars, but Nicole
Now Playing Frakenweenie (PG-13) It’s not often the words “Tim Burton” and “heartwarming” are used in the same sentence, but producers claim this tale about a boy and a dog is just that. The truth is Burton can’t resist turning things into a horror story; despite the clever animation this is not suitable for youngsters. Won’t Back Down (PG-13) What was supposed to be a heroic tale of two determined women trying to transform an inner city school into a productive learning center is turned into a cloying, predictable film by Daniel Barnz. Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis do their best but ultimately go down with the ship. Solomon Kane (R) It’s an action film. It’s science fiction. It’s fantasy. But it’s boring. By the way, lots of people get killed. James Purefoy has the title role, and Brit vets Pete Postlethwaite and Max van Sydow get to ham it up big time. Looper (R) Writer/Director Rian Johnson has himself a winner. This offbeat tale of time travel and hit men captivated critics and preview audiences. Bruce Willis is terrific, as is Joseph Gordon-Levitt – both men play the same character (don’t ask). Emily Blunt co-stars.

45 minutes. Now heat a large deep sauté or braising pan over medium heat. Melt half the butter in the pan and add the vegetables. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes stirring often. Deglaze with the white wine. When the wine has been absorbed add the verjus, chicken stock, and the rest of the butter. Wrap the bay leaf and the bunch of thyme in a cheesecloth. Tie it up with butchers twine and place in the liquid. Cover the pan and allow the vegetables to cook in the liquid until the vegetables have absorbed most of it. By this time the bird should be done, rested, and ready to plate. Finish with some picked thyme and enjoy.

Continued from Page B-13. The Living Room The Living Room Restaurant in East Hampton at c/o The Maidstone is now offering afternoon tea on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4:30 PM. Afternoon tea includes finger sandwiches, scones, jams, lemon curd, cream and cookies for $29 per person. Reservations are required. Call 631-324-5006. Gelato di Babbo
In five years Gelato di Babbo has become one of the largest manufacturers of artisan gelati and sorbetti in Pennsylvania. Insataible EATS Catering Company, based in the Hamptons and New York City, now offers gelato by Gelato di Babbo. This gelato is all natural and uses the highest quality of imported ingredients. During a summer trip to Naples, Italy, owner Kim Zanni fell in love with gelato. Indulging in the frozen treat
daily, Zanni was inspired by the social scene, and passion the Italian people had for gelato. On her return to the US, Zanni’s determination to create her own gelato kicked into high gear. Kim began experimenting with recipes sent from friends and family from Italy. In the beginning she utilized raw milk that literally went from the cow, to pasteurization, to production without leaving the farm. Goat’s milk was secured from a local Amish farm. After experimenting with several recipes, Zanni came up with a gelato, naming it Gelato di Babbo which literally means,“hit the streets.” She purchased a rickshaw-like push cart on eBay, and had a box custom made for it to hold the gelato and dry ice. Kim began pedaling her gelato. Today seven classically Italian flavors are making their way into a national distribution that has grown from 20 stores to over 200 in 15 states. You can rent the Insatiable EATS gelato cart for special events and parties. Call 631-377-3353.
