Time To Wine Down

By Nicole Teitler

It’s that tranquil time on the East End when the cool crisp autumn breeze replaces the hot summer air. Aside from the various farms and street fairs that often occupy the time of families, there’s Long Island Wine Country! And we’ve got your go-to list on the North Fork. Events are aplenty in Wine Country this fall. Take in a vineyard walk on Saturdays with Barbara Shinn -- owner, viticulturist, and winegrower -- at Shinn Estate Vineyards in Mattituck. Visit www.shinnestatevineyards.com for more info. Looking for a foodie event this weekend? Friday is the Harvest Moon dinner at Sannino Bella Vita Vineyards

in Peconic which includes a four-course dinner by Chef Christopher Kar paired with wines from 6:30 to 9 PM. For tickets visit www.sanninovineyard. com. On Sunday, Sparkling Pointe in Southold hosts its Local Oyster Showcase from 2 to 5 PM. Enjoy wine and jazz. Visit www.sparklingpointe. com for tickets. On Saturday it’s the 27th Annual Lenz World Merlot Classic in Peconic. The vineyard joins together some of the worlds best merlots for guests to taste and experience starting at 5:30 PM. To RSVP call 631-734-6010. Mar tha Clara Vineyard in Riverhead hosts a concert series

throughout the fall. Performances include New Life Crisis, Four Way Street, and The Fast Lane. Visit www. marthaclaravineyards.com. Jump ahead to November, it’s the time of year when many vineyards host barrel tastings. Such as Paumanok Vineyard in Aquebogue, which hosts tastings throughout the month. Visit www.paumanok.com for more info. According to www.LIwines.com, if you’re looking to go with a group then head to Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard in Calverton, Bridge Lane Wine in Mattituck, Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead, Osprey’s Dominion in Peconic, and Pugliese Vineyards in Cutchogue. Always be sure to call the vineyard

of your choice ahead of time, especially when scheduling a tasting with a limo or bus full of friends. Many will require advanced reservations, while others do not accept limos or buses. For a more intimate toast www. LIwines.com recommends Winemakers Studio located in Peconic, Clovis Point Vineyard and Winery, Diliberto Winery, and Sher wood House Vineyards located in Jamesport. In Southold there are Corey Creek, Croteaux Vineyards (the only exclusive rosé wine producer in the United States), Mattebella Vineyard, and One Woman. In Mattituck you can find Harbes Family Vineyard, Scarola Vineyards, and Shinn Estate Vineyards. In Cutchogue you can easily hop around to Lieb Cellars, McCall Wines, Pellegrini Vineyards, Macari Vineyards, and Pugliese Vineyards. If you’re seeking an upscale experience with your glass of vino, head to Bedell Cellars or Macari Vineyards in Cutchogue, Kontokosta Winery in Greenport, Macari Vineyards in Mattituck, Raphael Vineyard and Winery in Peconic, Sherwood House Vineyards in Jamesport, and Sparkling Pointe located in Southold, says www. LIwines.com. Raise a glass to the new season ahead and drive safe everyone. Cheers! You can follow more stories from Nicole Teitler on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat as Nikki On The Daily.

astrology & all Highlights of the week: We are still feeling the effects of the lunar eclipse in Virgo on 9/1/16. Many of us desire change in certain areas of our lives but don’t how to initiate these moves. Now on Friday, we will have a solar eclipse in Pisces which will help us see our way. What is no longer working for us will be eliminated as if by the hand of fate. Jupiter, the planet of all good fortune, has moved into the sign of Libra. We will feel lighter in our dealing with others and look to compromise gently. The energy of these eclipses can be draining; make sure to get enough rest and sleep.

ARIES (3/20 - 4/20) Being bored with your daily routine will lead you to creative solutions. If it is as mundane as clearing out the closets or the garage, it will be a wonderful distraction. Perhaps finding a class or course in something that interests you might be the perfect solution for now.

GEMINI (5/21 - 6/22) Parties or social events cannot only bring in new acquaintances, but an old friend or ghost from your past can reappear! What do they have to tell you that you need to hear? If doing any home repair, be sure to get several estimates.

On Sunday morning, the Chabad of the Hamptons of East Hampton became a pop-up art gallery, as Rabbi/Artist Yitchok Moully ("The Pop Art Rabbi") exhibited his work, and lectured about how he has combined his two callings in life in the show "What's A Good Rabbi Doing Painting." Guests of all ages enjoyed his humorous style, which combines the flavor of Jewish tradition and contemporary life.

Kathleen King At League Of Women Voters Luncheon The League of Women Voters of the Hamptons extends an invitation to all to hear Kathleen King, founder of the nationally-acclaimed Tate’s chocolate chip cookies and Tate’s Bake Shop in Southampton, who will speak on “Perseverance: The Journey of Kathleen King,” at its Fall Luncheon on Thursday, September 29, from noon to 3 PM, at Cowfish in Hampton Bays. Born and raised on Southampton’s North Sea Farm, King started selling chocolate chip cookies at her parents’ farmstead at the age of 11, in order

to buy school clothes. Later, at age 20, she opened her own bakery and launched a wholesale business, selling her cookies to specialty and gourmet shops in Manhattan, while putting herself through college. Nearly three decades later, her award-winning cookies are baked at a site in East Moriches and are now sold at over 16,000 gourmet retailers throughout the United States and on her robust e-bakery, tatesbakeshop.com. Named after her father, Tate King, Tate’s Bake Shop is a widely recognized

brand that offers breads, muffins, cakes, pies, seasonal specialties, and of course, multiple flavors of thin, crispy cookies. Simple, down-home Americana with fresh, preservative-free ingredients, is still at the heart of Tate’s. “It’s easy for me to do,” said King, “because that’s who I am.” In 2015, King sold 80 percent of the company but continues to maintain an active role in product development. The three-course luncheon takes place at Cowfish Restaurant, located at 258 East Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, dockside on the Shinnecock Canal, featuring stunning views of Shinnecock Bay. RSVPs are requested by September 20, by sending a check for $60, made out to LWV Hamptons, to Gladys Remler at 180 Melody Court, Eastport, N.Y. 11941. For questions, call Special Events co-chairs Ms. Remler at 631288-9021 or Joanne Samborn at 631283-9648. J.M.
