The Mission of INDEPENDENT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH is to make disciples of Jesus Christ in Memphis, calling them into a devoted community of worshiping and maturing believers, and sending them out to be salt of the earth and light in the world, all to the glory of God.
Loving Our City Our With-ness is Our Witness There is no greater commission in all of Scripture than to love God and love neighbor. God told His people in Jeremiah 29, “to seek the welfare of the city and to pray for it because as it experiences peace they would find peace.” When you think of Memphis, what comes to mind? Whether we are at times cynical or die hard grit and grinders, Memphis has much to offer. No doubt, it’s beautiful. And yet, it’s broken. Of the top 50 cities in the U.S., Memphis is #1 in poverty. I’ve heard it said that there are more churches in Memphis than gas stations. There are over 2,000 churches in Shelby county, and there are around 200 parachurch organizations whose mission is to serve the poor within our city. On top of this, Memphians give twice as much to charity as the average American, with 80% staying in Memphis. With all our churches and all our charity, how are we still #1 in poverty, and what can we do about it?
We need to be generous, not only with our stuff, but with ourselves. For God so loved that He gave. He gave
us Himself! I Thessalonians 2 and I John 1 highlight not only the sharing of the gospel but also the sharing of life and fellowship. The number one implication for Memphians in my opinion is this: We need to move from doing things for people to doing things with them. I believe our with-ness is our witness. May we follow our Immanuel into the city.

Loving Your Neighbors IPC leadership encourages you to get to know your neighbors and reach out to your community this July. You can do this on your own or with others in your neighborhood. Our desire for this month is to provide time to build intentional relationships with neighbors and those in our city who are in need. We hope you will take advantage of this month to share the Gospel with those around you by inviting neighbors into your home and reaching out to serve the city. Below are some suggested ideas; please use them if they are helpful:
We encourage our communities to host their neighbors for a dinner or block party. We hope you will consider visiting our homebound members. White Station Elementary Workday | July 11 (Landscape, Clean-up, Painting) Streets Sports Camp Week | July 13 - 17 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

we no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. Streets is looking for people to help cover stations for each day’s activities, i.e. shooting drills, passing drills, technique, etc. No one has to be proficient in these sports to help out. They would also love for people to help give out snacks and lunch, and to handle some logistics.
