seven-year-old student of Grade-2, Farhan is enchanted with the world of art. He portrayed his interest in art when he was barely three months old. Farhan was introduced to Tempera paints when he was six months old and while he was three and a half years old, he had already completed his first artwork titled ‘Sunset In Africa’, inspired by his trip to Africa. I love the bright colours and vibrant hues he uses for his paintings.
My grandmother is a great artist too. She inspired me to take up impressionism as a genre of art. I did many paintings on paper and eventually, my mother gave me canvas when I was 3.5 years old. From then began the journey of my paintings with acrylics on canvas. I want to paint as much as I can and as my studies allow me to.” He had his first solo exhibit at Saanchi Art gallery, Bangalore International Centre, where more than 100 of his artworks were displayed. On the same day, the record from the India Book of Records was also confirmed. For Farhan, it was a day of jubilation. He

ahul looks after his family business and also indulges in his passion of being a freelance fitness instructor. He loves bodybuilding, as it runs in his blood and even his father was very enthusiastic about fitness and regular with his exercise schedule. It took him several years and numerous rounds of gyms, millions of dumbbells and unlimited blood, sweat and tears to arrive at this feat. His journey began in the summer of 1997. Talking about his inspiration, he says, “The inspiration initially was to avoid getting bullied as I was a very skinny person. I wanted to get even with the bullies. I used to be very aggressive and my father taught me that rather than fighting people, I should make myself strong to defend myself. He channelized my aggression and energy into constructive activities.” The journey of making this record was not an easy one, Rahul faced many challenges. Reminiscing about the difficulties he faced, he says, “Firstly, I was an ectomorph with a skinny frame and was quite weak. Moreover, I injured my left hand while doing preacher curls in 1998. As a
result, it became painful to exercise regularly. Doctors asked me to give up weight training and even physiotherapy could not fix the problem. I used to cry like a helpless child. My dream seemed over, but my father stood like a pillar of strength for me and taught me to never give up.” The lockdown became a blessing in disguise for Rahul, as he started to concentrate on his bodybuilding and devoted long hours in training. It was 25 years of journey of blood, sweat and tears.
Talking about the kind of support he received from his family, Rahul says, “The real force behind me was my father. He always told me ‘Har kaam ko Itni mehnat or lagan se karo ki uske bad koi vo kam tumse acha na kar sake’. This piece of advice remains me till today. My wife Ashlyn also constantly motivates me including, my sisters and mother. For his next record, Rahul is preparing himself for 30” biceps. A barrier never crossed or reached by any human being on the face of the earth.
Sharing a few tips for future bodybuilders, he says following the 3 D’s is a must - discipline, determination and dedication. He believes there are no shortcuts to success in life. And further advises future bodybuilders to stay away from any form of substance abuse. Rahul advises all to believe in their dreams and to be humble like a banyan tree. His aim in life is to motivate people to be more active and fit and to open many charitable institutions.

Smallest handmade
Bhagwad Gita 8
India Book of Records | February 2022
The record for making the smallest handmade Bhagwad Gita was set by Samir Kumar Dash of Bengaluru, Karnataka. The handmade digitally printed book in Sanskrit (measuring 1.7 cm x 1 cm x 2 cm) contains 433 pages and 18 chapters.
A
UX designer and an entrepreneur, Samir has written several books based on designs. In his last 16 years of career, he journeyed through different roles of an author, a software developer, a UX designer and an entrepreneur. It took Samir almost one and a half days to prepare the first set of 10 Bhagavad Gita books, from start to end. The time is inclusive of the efforts in fine-tuning the latest version, getting it printed, cutting and trimming and including adhesive-based binding. The actual preparation took longer than the duration of the final attempt. Since the day of the initial ideation, it took him more than a month to reach this stage to make his first attempt. Most of his time was consumed in various tasks including, identifying the challenges and coming up with workarounds that contributed to the complete end-to-end
process for making the smallest Gita. Starting from the procurement of the right equipment within the budget, writing software to produce a print-ready digital version of the Gita has been a timeconsuming process. After several initial attempts, Samir perfected the process gradually and tweaked the approach that led to the final record of the smallest Bhagvat Gita. Talking about his inspiration, Samir says, “Being a user-experience designer, I was always fascinated to explore ways that can help me connect to our Indian roots. I have been studying Vedic scriptures for years to build a mindset for Design Operation (that I termed as “DesOps” and wrote a book on that) that are not based on western design philosophies but an Indian, rather Vedic view starting from temple architecture and Vedic ways of spreading knowledge about design and
art. Because of this, I have been fascinated by Bhagavad Gita. So thought of creating a small version of it that would help raise the curiosity among the current generation of modern tech-savvy youths about this scripture, so this curiosity would lead them to keep a copy and thus connect to our Vedic roots.” For Samir, the challenges were everywhere, starting from the printing in super small micro text sizes to cutting till binding the final state. Sharing his experience, he says, “Firstly, the roadblock was the standard digital copy editing & publication tools were not designed for producing a micro book. Secondly, to cut precisely the tiny pages using the regular handmade paper cutters, are not designed for cutting such small pages. The next challenge was binding the tiny pages as stitching was not an option.” From the inception of the idea, it almost took a month
in planning and procure the tools and materials. The cost incurred by him was close to 1.5 lakh, which included a business-grade colour laser printer, a thermal laminator, hand-driven paper cutting tools, and 70GSM paper bundles. For his next record, he is planning to make even a smaller version of a humanreadable micro-book. “I have a dream to build software that can help and automate the process of making miniature books at a large scale, especially all the Indic languages like Sanskrit. This would open up a window to the possibility that smaller versions of Indian scriptures and Vedas can be produced and can make their ways to the tabletops of modern-day youths, who can connect to their cultural Vedic heritage through these in today’s modern and fast-paced world”, says Samir while talking about his aim in life.

Heaviest baby delivered through normal delivery By Sanjana Bhowmick
T
he record for delivering the heaviest baby through normal delivery was set by Lt. Col. Sandeep Sethumadhavan of Gurdaspur, Punjab, along with a nurse. They delivered a healthy baby weighing 5.925 kg. The baby was delivered by normal vaginal delivery on December 9, 2021, at 167 Military Hospital, Pathankot. Lt. Col. Sandeep is a gynecologist by profession serving in the Indian Armed Forces Medical Services for the past 12 years. By far he has approximately done 4500-5000 deliveries. Talking about the delivery of the heaviest baby, he says, “She was presented to us in labour with early rupture of membranes. We continuously did CTG monitoring and the labour progressed normally. We had kept the operation theatre stand by as the clinical assessment was indicative of a baby with an estimated fetal weight of around 4-4.5 kg. It took us approximately 20 mins to deliver the baby.”
10
India Book of Records | February 2022
The delivery came with a fair bit of challenge. The baby was macrosomic, and they had to apply special manoeuvres to deliver the shoulder of the baby. Talking about his inspiration, Sandeep says, “In today’s world when there is a business and money-making attitude even when a new life is expected to arrive, the very thought that the natural process of birth should be given a chance, without risking the two lives, inspired me to opt for normal delivery and make a record of this achievement.” Lt. Col. Sandeep wants to conduct the maximum number of deliveries in his tenure. According to him, the business aspect should not be mixed with the medical profession, where doctors are trusted and considered next to God. He believes that, though science has advanced a lot, still natural processes should be given equal importance wherever there are no risks involved.
