And I continue doing it.” Renuka believes that women should focus on their fitness and never ignore their health. The journey towards making the record was marked with challenges. There was a constant fear of whether the

adjudicators could reach the venue due to the night curfew. Fortunately, the event was conducted smoothly, and she broke her record. “This record wouldn’t have been possible without the immense support I received from my husband. While I practised, my husband took care of our kids. Because of

his support, I could maintain my training sessions without any worries. The event too was organised by my husband, and he spent two days of sleepless nights.” Renuka is now preparing for her next record. She would like to attempt 1000 sun salutations.

1.  Tell us about Dayanand College? Swami Dayanand Saraswati established the college in the year 1942 and since then every year about, 2500 students get enrolled. The pride of the college is its library, which has a collection of 1.5 lakh books and magazines.

Since the painting was on the rooftop, the blazing April sun and the heat were quite challenging. Another challenge was to follow all the covid guidelines set by the government and maintain social distancing while making the mural.

2.  Describe your record?

5.  What was the most interesting part of the record?

We made the largest painting spreading the message of Covid-19 safety measures. It was done on the college terrace by the professors along with 24 students of the art department.

The most interesting part was that it was impossible to take an entire picture of the painting in one shot from the ground. So, we took the help of a drone camera to capture an aerial image of the art.

3.  What inspired you to make this record?

6.  Since when did you plan for this record?

Humanity is going through tough times. In this trying time of the Covid-19 pandemic, we wanted to spread positivity along with an awareness message.

We planned this record approximately one month before the execution.

4.  What challenges did you face while making the record?

Very privileged to be part of the much-coveted India Book of Records. We are feeling proud for having pulled off this record.

It was extremely hot on the day of the record attempt.

7.  How does it feel to be an India Book of Records titleholder?

Hrushikesh Mandke

Sets a New Record

No-Hands Wheelie

with

By Sanjana Bhowmick

T

Hrushikesh Mandke is back to setting a new benchmark and record in his thrill machine. This time he makes the record for the longest distance covered while performing a no-hands wheelie on the ‘Bajaj Pulsar NS 160’ motorcycle. He covered a distance of 184.8 metres breaking a previous world record of 89 metres. 6

India Book of Records | June 2021

he Baramati Airstrip once again echoed with triumph and jubilation as Hrushikesh makes a new world record in a no-hands wheelie. This record is not the one that can be smashed at the very first attempt. This stunt needed a light, strong and powerful bike which delivers stability, and Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 weighing 151 kg suited the bill. This made-in-India bike provides stability and balance, and the rear disc brake provides the necessary control over the wheelie. He pops the wheelie sets the throttle, sets the handlebar to the desired position and slowly releases the handlebar. He places his foot on the rear brake to control the wheelie and ensures the Pulsar doesn’t arch over him. He engages his core muscle to ensure he is in control of the bike. Talking to IBR, Sirish Chandran, Editor, Project GTO Publishing, says, “We broke the World Record for the longest no hands wheelie and also created a new National Record. Just like before, FMSCI guidelines were followed, with all safety

precautions in place. An ambulance was on stand-by, stunt rider Hrushikesh wore all the mandatory safety gear and the runway was blocked for the record runs. After three attempts, Hrushikesh broke the previous 89-metre world record by a significant margin, covering an interminable 184.8 metres.”

According to Sirish, it takes a superhuman level of balance and concentration to pull off this stunt and keep up on the bike on one wheel. Talking about the challenges, he says, “Apart from the strong crosswinds and scorching summer heat, the main challenges were for Hrushikesh – maintaining the line, having a correct

body posture and holding the wheelie at a steady angle. With both hands in the air, keeping the throttle steady was a task.” Sharing an interesting anecdote about the record, Hrushikesh says, “Shoelaces were used to give a cruisecontrol-

like effect to the throttle, and they were tied, with the right amount of tightness to maintain the effect.”

I am in cloud nine to become an India Book of Records, as this is my first big achievement. This achievement motivates me to excel further and be a better version of myself.

Dribbling two basketballs simultaneously; is no easy task Pruthvi had to face few challenges while making the record. He says, “As I attempted the record on my terrace, the sun was directly over my head, and after a certain point, it became difficult for me to maintain the balance between the balls. Along with the heat, the heavy winds also worked as a deterrent. But I was determined to make the record and that’s what kept me going.”

The record was a year in the making, with regular practice for two hours daily. Pruthvi ensured he never missed his workouts and rigorously practised to improve his dribbling skills. He credits his parents and guru for the immense support they provide him. My parents are a great source of fortitude for me and they always support me in my endeavours. With an ambition to become an entrepreneur, Pruthvi wants to achieve many more records. “I am in
