The Canada-India Business Council in collaboration with Creative BC is hosting the second BC-India Partnership Summit on September 19th, 2017. The focus of this year’s summit is Digital Media and Entertainment (DM&E). The Indian Media & Entertainment (M&E) Industry has been steadily growing on the back of strong economic fundamentals, steady growth in domestic consumption and the growing contribution of rural markets across key segments of the industry. The long-term outlook in India is extremely positive on the back of growing rural demand, increasing digital access and consumption, and the expected culmination of the digitization process of television distribution. The future of the M&E Industry indeed revolves around digitization. Indian companies are looking for new technologies, knowledge transfer, skills and best practices that can be acquired through partnerships with established companies globally and specifically from British Columbia. British Columbia is quietly becoming a center of excellence when it comes to Digital Media and Entertainment. BC offers an ideal ecosystem for growth in this sector, including talent and work force, thriving research and education support, government incentives, a Pacific Time zone and a great place to live and work. Indian robotic engineer develops 'world’s cheapest' pocket ventilator An Indian robotic engineer in collaboration with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences has invented the “world’s smallest and cheapest” ventilator. “It is almost 450 times smaller than the conventional ventilators and can be moved around easily,” the 25year-old inventor Diwakar Vaish who lives in Delhi, told Hindustan Times. The ventilator was developed with Dr Deepak Agarwal, professor of neuroscience at AIIMs, who witnessed a number of patients at the hospital who couldn’t afford a portable ventilator which costs about 0.2 million. The portable ventilator will be priced at INR15,000-20,000 as soon as its launched in the market after being approved by the drug controller general of India. The ventilator uses an artificial intelligence algorithm to adjust air supply to the normal breathing pattern of the patient and is controlled by an Android app. For the 10 per cent who need more oxygen, the pocket ventilator can also be hooked to an oxygensupply system. 4. India's first all-women crew to sail for around-the-globe mission today A team of six naval officers are starting a historic and grueling around-the-world mission on Sunday -- the first circumnavigation of the globe by an all-female crew of the Indian navy. Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi, who is leading the voyage which will begin in Goa, told AFP the project was "revolutionary" in bringing women to the helm and would inspire others in the country. In recent years, the Indian navy has sought to open its doors to women to take on more challenging roles, with the latest project winning the backing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who urged the crew to "project India's capabilities and strengths across the world". The navy commissioned a 17-metre (56-foot) yacht "Tarini" in February for the mission, with the crew kicking off preparations for the voyage in 2014. Retired naval officer Captain Dilip Dhonde, who undertook India's first solo around-the-world expedition in 2009-10, mentored the crew. The team sailed twice to Mauritius and once to Cape Town in preparation. Their journey will feature stops in Australia, New Zealand, the Falkland Islands and South Africa. They are expected to return to Goa in March next year. (NDTV, Sat, 09 Sep, 03:59pm)
