SHOW HOME APPROACH: Our goal when building this home was to keep it simple, straightforward, and functional. We used clean lines throughout to craft a modern farmhouse design and comfortable atmosphere. We chose to create a home that integrates indoor and outdoor living into one space. Expansive windows were utilized on the backside of the house to flood the interior spaces with natural light. The covered back porch and deck surround the kitchen, offering an easy flow from inside to outside for entertaining. The open layout of the house is maximized with a vaulted ceiling in the main living space, and the kitchen offers a gathering place for friends and family in the center of the home. The shiplap and light colored walls keep with the traditional farmhouse style and complement the beautiful natural hardwood floors. A large finished attic space is a perfect getaway for the kids and overlooks the main living space to give it the feel of a hayloft. The garage was designed to be a versatile space large enough to suit the needs of any family.

BUILDER PHILOSOPHY: Our DNA is practical luxury. We translate that into homes and finishes that are comfortable and functional. Our homes and finishes are built around function, which makes them comfortable and therefore luxurious. Like individuals have their own unique personalities, a luxury custom home by Havencrest Homes expresses a distinct personality, too—yours. Havencrest Homes has been building custom homes on Indy’s north side since 2002.
HAVENCREST HOMES Neal & Marcy Lewis 319 Gradle Dr. Carmel, IN 46032 317-942-3004 mlewis7962@aol.com havencresthomes.com
SHOW HOME APPROACH: We created a floor plan that reflects current floor plan trends and also utilizes the space where people live and function. We eliminated the formal dining room in favor of a “super kitchen,” a comfortable place where everyone congregates. Comfortable banquette seating invites family members to relax in the kitchen and the side kitchen. Plentiful seating and extensive appliances makes it ideal for formal and informal entertaining. Although many elements are state-of-the-art, the home is rooted in timeless tradition and dappled with historical elements.

We integrated the classic elements of this home with a blend of various styles and trends. Not falling into one design category, this interior aesthetic will appeal to many different pallets. BUILDER PHILOSOPHY: Sobczak Construction Services, Inc., now celebrating its 30th year in business in Central Indiana, is dedicated to providing the best quality and personal service for our homeowners. Confidently using old-school attention to technique and detail while utilizing the newest products and technology in the industry results in a custom home that is second to none. With the clients’ objectives in mind, incorporating energy efficiency into an innovative design works as the guideline for each job. From site location to finishes, we put our knowledge to work so the customer can see their vision become the quality custom home they deserve. SHOW HOME APPROACH: By using simple lines on the exterior with large windows, we created something a little more contemporary and clean than the normal trend. With the lot selection and home placement, we were able to take advantage of the walk-out basement and obtain privacy from the adjoining houses for the rear of the home. The upper-level covered porch offers a great space for outdoor entertainment, and the lower level can be opened up, allowing that space to combine indoor and outdoor flexibility. The openness of the floor plan reflects that clean and simple idea while providing great functionality and sophisticated details throughout. Selection of the finish materials provides thought, warmth, and texture, giving each space great character.

SHOW HOME APPROACH: Throughout the home we incorporated rich solids in jewel-toned velvets, which are both invigorating and sultry. The blend of contemporary fabrics and classic lines are both edgy and welcoming. We began with inspiration from the architecture of the house and looked to the worlds of art, fashion, and design to guide the style. Color, clean lines, and a mix of material are simply harmonious. Masculine touches are paired with feminine color and luxurious details such as gold and black metals, providing an intriguing, eclectic atmosphere. The overall design can best be described as modern, sensual ambiance. The fabrics are vibrant yet sophisticated, modern yet classic, opulent yet masculine. From the walls and ceiling to the furniture, rugs, and accessories, each layer creates an inviting and liveable space full of depth and energy. SEPTEMBER 2017 | HOME-A-RAMA

BUILDER PHILOSOPHY: Gollner Homes is a second generation home-building and remodeling business that began in 1962. Mike Gollner continues the tradition of quality construction while bridging new values in home design and function. As one of the few truly custom homebuilders left, Gollner homes are distinctive to discerning families. Gollner works closely with clients to help them achieve their goals as they build their homes. Each home is developed and built according to each family’s style and needs. Mike and Teri Gollner are honored to work so closely with families and watch as a home is completed and life moves in. SHOW HOME APPROACH: It is exciting to showcase one of our favorite home design styles—the farmhouse. In this home, we have designed spaces for a specific function while maintaining an open concept. We have included a den for retreat from busy family life, work, or rest. We designed a woman’s officeand-craft room for business and projects galore. The kitchen opens up into the family room, providing a central gathering space. The lower level is a space created for fun and entertaining. The outdoor spaces provide further entertaining areas. We incorporated modern and rustic elements to further define the modern farmhouse style.

BUILDER PHILOSOPHY: Precision and detail are the two fundamental ideals Stephen Kay Homes was founded on. We build homes that are functional, well laid out, and, most importantly, just comfortable to live in. With 18 years of experience as a trim carpenter, Carl Moore understands how precision impacts the quality of a project. He had the privilege of working for prestigious builders and installing woodwork in some of the area’s nicest homes. Our standards were born from those experiences, and we now apply them to the construction of whole homes. Whether we build a $2 million house or a simple built-in, the standard is the same. We simply don’t negotiate or compromise when it comes to quality. After years of experience in the industry, we delight most of all in hearing the words, “That’s exactly what I wanted,” from our clients. SHOW HOME APPROACH: This home, which explores the modern farmhouse style, is a collaboration between Stephen Kay Homes and Novitski Design. They understand that bigger is not always better, so they chose to design a right-size house with an open layout. Clean lines and modern elements contrast the warm, earthy materials and interesting touches of texture. Ten-foot windows bathe the interior of the home with natural light and offer a great view of the woods in the back. Concrete, brick, wood, and even an old barn beam create a modern yet inviting feel. Christy Friedman of Lifestyled by Christy then chose colors, flooring, and countertops to complement the design, resulting in a gorgeous home you’re sure to love.

ARCHITECT PHILOSOPHY: Ron Novitski has been drawing plans since 1992. He understands how much each element he adds to the design will ultimately cost the person for whom the home is being built. He takes pride in developing plans and designs that will work within a client’s goals and budget while implementing features and fresh design ideas that separate a custom home from a cookie-cutter, mass-produced house. It’s easy to draw a stunning home with all the bells and whistles when money isn’t an issue, but it’s another thing to bring welldesigned floor plans and elevations to affordable homes. Ron pulls it off and makes it look easy.

IF THE CITY OF WESTFIELD HASN’T YET MADE IT
onto your must-see list, you’d better add it. New things to do and sights to see are popping up practically every week. The historic town may be small (around 37,000 residents), but it’s huge in stature when it comes to amenities and quality of life for people of all ages. Westfield boasts miles of trails, 12 parks, boutique shopping, several hotels, and a burgeoning food and drink scene. And their sports campus, Grand Park, is what puts the city on the map. “Grand Park has become known for its quality nationwide,” says Erin Murphy, director of communications for the City of Westfield. “It’s the economic development driver for the city, and it helped create our identity as a family community.”

GET MOVING The 400-acre Grand Park is growing strong with events taking place every weekend. It’s a wonderful venue for a multitude of amateur sports, including baseball, lacrosse, football, soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Last year its 370,000-square-foot event center opened, featuring three full-sized soccer fields, retail and meeting spaces, and more under one roof. Grand Park attractes 750,000 annual visitors to Westfield. In addition to the sports campus, the city has 11 other parks where people can enjoy being outdoors. “Trails are a big part of our community,” Murphy says. “Everyone who moves here has pointed to our trail system and our award-winning school system as reasons to live in Westfield.” Westfield’s five-trail system provides nearly 90 miles of trails for hiking, biking, running, or rollerblading. Next year construction will begin to extend the trail system to Sheridan. Last May the Zagster Bike Share program opened its first Westfield location opposite Grand Junction Brewing Co. “Right now in Hamilton County, the program is available only in Carmel and Westfield,” says Whitney Riggs, communications coordinator for Hamilton County Tourism. “The program expands the list of things you can do—you can bike to a brewery, bike to a restaurant, or explore different towns around Westfield.”

CALLING ALL FOODIES “Westfield’s food scene is very up-and-coming,” Riggs says. “You can literally eat your way through the area.” The hot spot some residents are calling Restaurant Row is the group of eateries on Park Avenue near Grand Junction. Chiba, a new Sushi spot, just joined The Italian House on Park and the farm-to-table Rail Epicurean Market. Parking in the area is at a premium. Westfield solved that problem by launching a downtown shuttle service. It operates on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, picking up at the former Park Street Pub property and dropping off at Restaurant Row. If pizza is more your style, there’s Greek’s Pizzeria and the newly opened Noble Roman’s Craft Pizza & Pub. And then there are the old standbys: Super Bowl Pho, Big Hoffa’s BBQ, and Grand Junction Brewing Co.
Clockwise from top left: Rail Epicurian Market, Chiba, Greek’s Pizzeria, and The Italian House on Park.
Indiana Lighting Center has served Indiana since 1973. In that time we have grown to be a market leader in the Indiana lighting field. With three locations in the greater Indianapolis area, we have the largest number of lighting fixtures on display. Still in our original location, our goal has been to create a lighting store like no other, to build a business that our customers would benefit and our staff would be proud to work for.

Breweries and wineries are cropping up all around the area as well. Grand Junction Brewing Co. recently opened a tasting room in its second Westfield location. And Urban Vines Winery on 161st Street, which opened this summer, is Westfield’s first winery. Its tasting room features more than 14 wines, including sparkling wine on tap, and a charcuterie board menu. Field Brewing, a farm-tobottle gastropub at Main and Cherry Streets, is slated to open next spring.

CURTAIN CALL There’s always something to do in Westfield—and it doesn’t all involve sports. If you’re looking for something fun to do, give Urban Vines a try. The winery features live entertainment, plus it hosts a wide variety of special events such as “Wine & Yoga” and “Sip and Paint.” Enjoy history? Learn more about Westfield’s illustrious past on the Voices from the Past living history walk on September 8. The annual tour pays tribute to those who helped slaves escape to Canada via the Underground Railroad. And if you enjoy folktales and haunting legends, Westfield’s Haunted Underground Railroad and Haunted Union Street walking tours, hosted by Historic Indiana Ghost Walks and Tours, are fun for kids and adults alike.

BANK ON IT FIRST INTERNET BANK COMBINES AT-YOUR-FINGERTIPS TECHNOLOGY WITH PERSONABLE, FRIENDLY CUSTOMER SUPPORT.

SINCE ITS FOUNDING IN 1999, First Internet
Bank has built itself on the idea that even if the branch is virtual, the customer support can be very real. As a leader in the online banking industry, First Internet Bank recognizes the importance of balancing digital capabilities with personal service in order to build and deepen customer relationships. Whether you are setting up that first checking account, establishing an investment portfolio, looking for a mortgage lender, or applying for a home improvement loan, First Internet Bank combines interpersonal communication with cutting-edge technology to bring its customers the best banking experience available.
CUSTOMER FIRST When David Becker, president and CEO of First Internet Bank, originally came up with the concept for the company, he was sitting at his kitchen table asking friends and family what they wanted from an online banking experience. He listened as they outlined their needs, concerns, fears, and frustrations and then created a branchless model that incorporated timeless banking principles with personalized service and user-friendly applications. The rest, as they say, is history. 30

“We put the customer at the forefront of everything we do, and it really shows,” says Nicole Lorch, executive vice president and chief operating officer for First Internet Bank. “We use technology to create a better customer experience without sacrificing relationships, and that really resonates with the consumers.” Headquartered in Fishers with additional offices in Phoenix, First Internet Bank does not hire professionals who are merely in tune with tech. They look for employees who are caring, compassionate, and committed to meeting their customers’ needs. All of their relationship bankers complete extensive training that enables them to answer questions in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner. Whether you are online or on the phone, representatives are not watching the clock or trying to fill a daily call quota. “We have customers who call or log on to ask about a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage or a specific kind of checking account because that’s what they’ve heard of and that’s what they know,” Lorch says. “However, our bankers are not order-takers. They are profession-

As the title sponsor for the 2017 Home-ARama tour, Lorch says First Internet Bank is excited to showcase the relationship they have with the building community throughout Central Indiana. “We are affiliated with this event in so many ways,” she says. “We have a great relationship with the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis, and our commercial real estate division does a lot of work with developers who are building great neighborhoods all over the country. It is so important to us to show our support for what they are doing through events such as this one, and we are proud to be a part of it.” Lorch says if you are a homebuyer, homebuilder, or someone looking to make home improvements to an existing structure, First Internet Bank is ready to help you turn your dream into a reality. With state-of-the-art services, favorable rates, and personalized support available nearly 24 hours a day and seven days a week, it’s the online banking option you’ve been looking for. “We are your hometown bank in all 50 states,” Lorch says.

PROFESSIONAL PARTNERSHIPS First Internet Bank’s signature service and digital capabilities are not limited to just personal banking. The customer-first mentality is evident in their business division as well.

AFTER TWO CANCER DIAGNOSES, ST. VINCENT CHALLENGE AMBASSADOR REFUSES TO GIVE UP.
M
MELANIE WOODARD SAYS CANCER MAY
not play fair and it may not play by the rules, but it doesn’t have to win the game. A little more than a year after her last treatment for uterine leiomyosarcoma, which she was diagnosed with in 2012, she learned she had chronic myelogenous leukemia and would have to battle back once again. “I won the cancer lottery,” she says. “In fact, when my oncologist told me how rare both conditions were and that the chances of the same person getting both were one-in-amillion, my brother went out and bought me a Powerball ticket. Unfortunately, my winning streak was limited to cancer.” It is that quick sense of humor paired with a strong faith and the support of her family and friends that helps Woodard fight on even when the going gets rough. She says she tries to find the silver lining behind every cloud, tends to see the glass as half full, and is eager to share her optimistic outlook with every cancer patient she mentors or meets as one of the 2017 St. Vincent Cancer Run/Walk Challenge Ambassadors. Woodard says she relies on the words of a family friend, Dr. Craig Cieciura of St. Vincent. After learning the results of her ULMS biopsy and scans, he told her that having cancer would be the toughest fight she ever had to take on, but it was not mission impossible. 34

“He said, ‘It’s the first inning. You’re down 9-0, but you’ve got nine innings to catch up,’” she says. “I took those words to heart.” In addition to her three kids, her husband, and an extensive network of friends to provide moral support, Woodard has set goals for herself throughout both of her diagnoses, celebrated each victory, and allowed herself to feel emotional when she needs to; but she has never let herself give up. “There are always bumps in the road of life, and it’s nice to have someone help get you over those bumps. That’s why I feel so honored to give back to others with cancer and let them know there is someone in their corner to help navigate those bumps,” she says. “I want to inspire others so that maybe one day I will run across someone who says, ‘Because of you, I didn’t give up.’” This is the fifth year in which she has participated in the St. Vincent Cancer Run/Walk Challenge. Last year, her team was among the top fundraisers with over $10,000. She says with over 30,000 Hoosiers being diagnosed with cancer each year, she is more committed than ever to getting the word out, and she

feels she is beyond blessed by the number of people who have consistently opened their hearts and wallets to support her mission and the number of phone calls she has already fielded this year from those ready to step up to the plate.
“Cancer not only affects the patient themselves, but also the families and people around them,” Woodard says. “I don’t know anyone who has not been touched by cancer, which makes this event so much more important. It’s something everyone can get involved with.” The 2017 St. Vincent Cancer Run/Walk Challenge will be held on Saturday, September 16 at 8 a.m. in Zionsville’s Lions Park. At the annual event, attendees form teams and raise funds that benefit patients at St. Vincent Cancer Care. According to Sara Homburg, St. Vincent Foundation’s manager of community partnerships and events, all of this year’s proceeds will be used specifically to enhance radiation services offered at the St. Vincent Cancer Center. “Cancer doesn’t discriminate,” Homburg says. “It touches so many people’s lives, but this is something everyone can do to make a difference in the lives of those who have been affected by this devastating diagnosis.” To learn more about the St. Vincent Cancer Run/Walk Challenge, visit stvincent cancerchallenge.org.
