METROPOLITAN SCHOOL DISTRICT OF LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP Each year, the Indiana Department of Education conducts the Indiana Teacher of the Year program to recognize outstanding classroom teachers from across the state. One person, in accordance with national Teacher of the Year guidelines, is chosen to represent Indiana at the national level. 2019 Indiana Teacher of the Year, Tamara Markey, is a pre-engineering teacher at the McKenzie Center for Innovation & Technology in the MSD of Lawrence Township. “I always wanted to be a
teacher,” shares Markey, “I had great teachers who sparked my admiration for the profession, but my propensity for math and science led me to study engineering after high school.
