Congratulations! Pamela Parker Tucker is the 2017 winner of the 14th Annual Starkey Entrepreneurial Woman Award. Harrison & Moberly, LLP and Indianapolis Monthly, along with Marti Starkey, congratulate Pamela Parker Tucker as the 2017 Winner of the Starkey Entrepreneurial Woman Award. This award is given each year to a female business owner who exhibits courage, tenacity and selflessness in starting and running her own business. Pamela has owned JP Parker Flowers, a thriving, innovative and distinctive floral business, for thirty years. Pam’s tenacity and courage brought the company through the years of the financial downturn in this country during 2008 and 2009 without having to let a single employee go. Pam’s selflessness leads her to be a wise mentor for new female business owners. Rosie Kopeček, RN, Pediatric Nurse & Midwife After a three month short-term mission trip to Ouarzazate, Morocco in 1966, Rosie Kopeček returned to England to obtain her education as a qualified RN and pediatric nurse, with further training as a midwife and education in Bible and Missions. Rosie returned to Morocco where she worked for a period of over 50 years as a qualified midwife, serving the underserved Berber people (where no physician was available at the time), delivering 2,500 babies and providing postnatal care for thousands more. In October of 2012, Rosie was awarded an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for her services to healthcare in Morocco. She is a perfect example of living a life of sacrifice.
Rick Alvis, President & CEO of the Wheeler Mission Rick Alvis has served the homeless and addicted in our state for 40 years. He began his career with the Evansville Rescue Mission where he worked for thirteen years before coming to Wheeler Mission in 1990. In his tenure in Indianapolis, he has directed a path of growth and outreach to the neediest citizens of our state, increasing the number of services offered and extending programs to men, women, and children. Under his leadership, three organizations have merged with Wheeler Mission in order to provide more effective care for Hoosiers in need of vital services. Setting Wheeler Mission on a solid financial path has allowed Wheeler Mission to expand programs and the number of staff by growing a balanced budget from around $650,000 in 1990 to over $10,000,000 in 2017 and an increase in staff from 16 in 1990 to more than 150 today. Thank you, Rick, for living a life of sacrifice.

1998 at the age of 97, at which time Marti expressed her desire to Helen’s family to create this award in Helen’s memory.
