WELCOME ATTENDEES
Welcome Hoosier Hospitality Conference Attendees! Thank you for taking time to join this year’s annual event in Indianapolis. As always, this year’s conference offers an outstanding opportunity to learn and network with other hospitality and tourism professionals. The Indiana Office of Tourism Development, the Indiana Restaurant & Lodging Association, the Association of Indiana Convention and Visitors Bureaus, and the Indiana Chapter of Meeting Professionals International have worked diligently to assemble a wide range of topics, from customer service and marketing to current trends in technology. Please take advantage of these sessions, not only to increase your knowledge base, but also to get to know your peers and learn from their experiences. Your friendships and collective networks will serve you well in the hospitality industry. Indiana’s various tourism sectors employ more than 181,000 people and your collective efforts attract and serve more than 62 million visitors annually. Our visitors spend $10 billion annually and I commend each one of you for your personal contribution in making tourism a successful component of Indiana’s economy. Thank you for your sharing your talents and tourism passions. Go forth this week and continue to do great things on behalf of our state and our tourism industry. Enjoy the conference! Sincerely,
Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann

Use “The Belly Button Rule,” “The 3 Power Zones,” and “Move Your Body, Move Your Mind” success moves to increase your perceived value and decrease your client or customers stress Sell from your buyer’s right or left brain perspective and produce more consistent sales results Monitor arm and torso movements and break the myths about crossed arms, sitting on the right side of your client, and shoulder shrugs and close the sale faster Master the art of decoding and using Statement Analysis during all sales pitches and transactions and begin to think like an FBI agent or CIA operative when you spot deception in someone’s words
This highly interactive breakout session is effectively designed to provide best practices to Coaching & Counseling employees. Having uncomfortable conversations with others is never fun and tends to be confusing about the right approach to get employees back on track…or let them go. The end-result of everyone who attends is to enhance the ability to have those uncomfortable conversations with staff, while discussing & practicing actual steps in a nonthreatening environment. Jim Knight, of KnightSpeaker, will use proven industry best practices and the fundamentals used during his time facilitating Rock 101, the management corporate university he started at Hard Rock International and led for 16 years. Key concepts will include: • The Definitions of Coaching & Counseling • The Differences Between Coaching & Counseling • Steps of Progressive Discipline • The Importance & Process of Documentation • Terminating with Grace • Counseling Exercises/Roleplays Leaders in Hospitality actually struggle with this skill. Part of it is because they do not like the negative emotions that come with the experience, while others just do not get enough experience in counseling someone else…and therefore do not know what to do. There is no better way to develop a manager’s skill-set in a particular area that deals with people than practice & roleplay. Jim will set up an extremely non-threatening & easy way to develop this skill with everyone who attends. If you’re a fan of challenging your own systems or you are on a quest to better enhance your skill-set in this area, this breakout will be value-added. Come hear what all the noise is about.
