DIRTY DEALING
An exclusive look at drug usage on campus and how it’s being dealt with KRISTI ASHBY Reporter Drugs are present in areas across the United States, including college campuses like Indiana State University. Indiana State University Public Safety is cracking down to take drugs off ISU’s campus. “When we notice a higher influx of drugs, Public Safety steps up enforcement numbers to put a stop to them,” said Ian Loomis, the police patrol captain for Indiana State Public Safety. “We go through cycles on campus, where drugs are more common and then where they decrease with the amount seen.” When a report has been made of drug-related activity, officers are sent to investigate the report. If suspicious activity seems to be taking place, officers will further investigate the area to see if there are any illegal substances. “Cooperation can help the student make the situation better for themselves and us [the police] if any illegal substances are found,” Loomis said. If any illegal activity is taking place, the police go into action. From there depending on the amount of drugs in possession and amount of times with prior illegal activity, the police will proceed to place charges. One of the drugs reported on campus in the past include Synthetic Cathinones, otherwise known as “bath salts.”
