DR. ARCHIE T. KEENE .
We who work in the fiel d o f science are proud of the accompli shments of our eng in ee rs, scientist s and research technician s. T oday 's atomic rea ctors, gu ided m issiles, rocket propulsion. auto mation, and medic al advancement s are dramai¡ic evidence of the scientifi c intelligence of o ur age. Our rectitude appears less worthy. Can our morals, our sense of val ues , o ur philosophy o f living keep pace with scientific acceleration? Th erein lies the an swer to our future . •

Sin ce its inception in 1941 , the A ssociatio n of Civil En gineers , formerly known as the Pyra m id Club, ha s had f or its goal the promotion of interest and study in all phases of the field of Civil En gineering . To attai n thi s end, the A ssociat ion stri ves t o prese nt a varied program to its mem bers through th e medium of motion pictures, field t rips to local and distant constru ction pro jects and lectures by prominent civil enginee rs, many of whom are Tech. graduates. One of the highlights of the activties of th e pa st year wa s a field trip to the Ni ckel Plate Elevation project, during which the members had an excellent opportu nity to learn ma ny of the new innova tion s in th e f ield of pre-cast and pre-stressed concrete. Under the able spo nso rship of Mr. Ruhland Mr. Steve nso n, the A ssociation rou nded out a successful year with the renewed hope of becom ing a full -fledged student affiliate of the Ameri ca n Society of Civi I Engineers . •

' An open door leading here. Another leading there. Hundreds of doors. in fact! It's the open door policy all right. and red carpets are being rolled out for graduate engineers all over the land. Which door to choose·? That's the important question. Which carpet is the magic carpet. the one that wilr lead straight up +he stairway of success? Well, it's your move. Make the right move and you're on your way without any delay. Make a wrong move, however, and you may find yourself walking through a door that opens into endless corridors of time. You know this. So does everyo·ne else. Life is like that. Like a gigantic chess game for keeps, so it seems at times. There are moves a'n d counter moves. The smartest move wilns. It's your move now! Getting back to carpets, we don't happen to have a red one at Scintilla
but we do have a big
welcome mat. And if you are interested in "modern flyi~ng carpets," our engineers design the world's most trusted
