New Delhi, April 22 (IANS): British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on April 22 said that he felt like Sachin Tendulkar upon his arrival (in Ahmedabad) and also like Amitabh Bachchan when he saw (his) hoardings everywhere during his visit to Gujarat. Addressing a joint press conference along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House here, he said he had a fantastic two-day tour of India and became the first Conservative Prime Minister who visited Gujarat on the invitation of his ‘Khas Dost’ (personal friend) which is the home of half of all British Indians. “I had an amazing reception, absolutely amazing,” Johnson added.
Modi said that this was his ( Johnson) first visit as PM but he was instrumental in strengthening India-UK friendship for many years. It was significant to note that he started his India visit by paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Sabarmati Ashram. Modi stated that India and the UK have been working on closing the negotiations for a free trade agreement by the end of this year. Recently we have concluded FTA with the UAE and Australia and with the same spirit, we wish to go for FTA with the UK with the same commitment, he said. “Last year, we established the strategic partnership and we have added the important Roadmap-2030 and during our talks, we reviewed the progress made in this direction and also set some goals,” Modi said. Referring to the recent reforms initiated by India in infrastructure modernisation and the National Infrastructure Pipeline, Modi said that India welcomes the increasing investments here by UK companies. Prime Minister Modi said they also discussed the many developments taking place at the regional and global level. “We emphasized on maintaining the Indo-Pacific region based on a free, open, inclusive and rulesbased order. India welcomes the UK’s decision to join the IndoPacific Oceans Initiative.” Modi said during our talks we stressed on dialogue and diplomacy in Ukraine for an immediate ceasefire and resolution of the problem. We also reiterated the importance of respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all countries, he added. We reiterated our support for a peaceful, stable and secure Afghanistan and for an inclusive and representative government, Prime Minister Modi said, adding that it was necessary that Afghan land should not be used to spread terrorism in other countries.

During the bilateral talks held here at Hyderabad House, both leaders reiterated the commitment to ambitious climate action to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and in implementing the Glasgow Climate Pact.

New Delhi, April 22 (IANS): With an eye on Russia, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on April 22 offered help to India giving 'know-how' for making its own fighter jets and a licence for faster deliveries of defence equipment, especially when the West is trying to wean India away from Russia. During bilateral talks with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, Johnson discussed the ways to boost trade and security ties with India, which buys more than half of its military hardware from Russia. Johnson has offered support for new Indian-designed and built fighter jets, offering the best of British know-how on building battle-winning aircraft. Both leaders agreed to transform defence and security cooperation as a key element of India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and discussed opportunities for defence collaboration including co-development and coproduction for meeting the needs of armed forces of both the countries. The two leaders had also detailed discussion on co-production and defence technology, particularly
in electric propulsion and modern defence aircraft's jet engines and other complex defence equipment, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. Both sides issued a joint statement for further intensifying co-operation on Cyber Security particularly in the areas of cyber governance, cyber deterrence and safeguarding critical national infrastructure. They also agreed to closely cooperate on countering the persistent threat of terrorism and radical extremism. The two leaders also discussed the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict. Prime Minister Modi also expressed deep concern at the mounting humanitarian crisis and reiterated his call for immediate cessation of violence and return to direct dialogue and diplomacy as the only way forward. "The world faces growing threats from autocratic states which seek to undermine democracy, choke off free and fair trade and trample on sovereignty," Johnson said in a statement on April 21after visiting Gujarat.

Ahmedabad, April 21 (IANS): At a time when bulldozers have become a major talking point in the country, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on April 21 took the social media by storm by jumping onto a bulldozer during his visit to British heavy equipment maker JCB's plant at Halol industrial area near Gujarat's Vadodara. The trip of Johnson, who's on a two-day visit to India, to the bulldozer factory came at a time when the country is abuzz with news of bulldozers razing houses and shops in different pockets of the nation, the latest being Jahangirpuri
in the national capital, which was stopped following Supreme Court orders. Johnson visited the JCB factory accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media, drawing myriad reactions. "What a bulldozer of irony! British PM @BorisJohnson will inaugurate the JCB plant in Halol that will manufacture bulldozers on a day when the Supreme Court is taking cognisance of the constitutional limits of the administration's use of the machine. #jahagirpuri," posted one netizen. Earlier in the day, Johnson visited the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad where he tried his hands on the Charkha. Boris Johnson is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on April 22.
