Calling all makers! Applications are now open for Council’s next Maker Entrepreneurship Program; an initiative that helps Brisbane’s creative makers grow their business.

A maker is someone who creates a tangible item either by design or fabrication and could be an artist, sewist, potter, metalsmith, or jeweler.

Makers across Brisbane can apply for the program to equip them with the skills, tools, and resources to build a community and maintain a creative business.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the program helps designers and artists become more competitive and accelerate their business growth.

“Brisbane is Australia’s most small-business friendly destination and supporting our creators during their early stages will help grow this sector,” Cr Schrinner said.

“This program is aimed at small makers, providing them a leg up so they can improve their business practices and take advantage of Brisbane’s rapid growth.”

Cr Schrinner said the program is fully funded by Council, and there’s no cost to successful applicants.

“Council has run the Maker Entrepreneurship Program since 2020, and there have been 39 graduates to date as well as 50 additional makers supported through workshops,” he said.

“This year we are offering a refreshed program with more places, meaning 45 local makers will be able to participate.

“We have also teamed up with

Creative Plus Business to deliver this program and help Brisbane makers grow the entrepreneurial skills needed to achieve business success.”

The 2023 course will run from May to mid-June with three cohorts of 15 makers, providing an engaging small group experience. Face-to-face and online options are available, but participants need to be able to set aside approximately 30 hours of time for the sessions and agreed activities.

Applications to be part of the 2023 Maker Entrepreneurship Program close at midnight on Wednesday 12 April.
