Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary celebrations organized

The Indian High Commission celebrated Mahatma Gandhi’s 154th birth anniversary recently. A prayer meet was organized near Gandhi statue at Glebe Park in Canberra. Floral tributes were paid by High Commissioner Manpreet Vohra, followed by community members and High Commission staff present on the occasion. Community members made poetry and song presentations to mark the occasion.


The community in Perth paid humble tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest proponent of peace and non-violence, on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajans were presented by Sanskriti Seniors group, Durba Bhattacharjee and her students, with Ananya Giridhar and Satheesan playing violin and mridangam. Pt Vimlesh Shukla recited bhajans while Brennan, who has been influenced by Gandhiji's thoughts since the age of 10, recited Sant Kabir's bhajans to the accompaniment of music on Dufli.


The event showcased harmony and devotion within the Indian community in Western Australia.
Tushar Gandhi, great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and Managing Trustee of Mahatma Gandhi Foundation, delivered a message through recorded video. Nishtha Nupur, a community language teacher, was the master of ceremonies on the occasion. In Sydney, the Consulate General of India, Sydney paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Jubilee Park, Parramatta and UNSW, Sydney on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, recently. Also, eminent dignitaries paid rich tributes to Bapu at Mahatma Peace Symposium 2023 organized by Saroni Roy Foundation to commemorate 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.


In Melbourne, the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated at the Consulate General of India, Melbourne by paying homage to father of the nation. This was an occasion to remember Gandhi’s contribution to India’s Independence. He also taught the world the lesson of non-violence and peace.
