Damini celebrates Diwali showcasing Punjabi culture

Diwali for Damini is an occasion for enjoying being together with friends and relatives, enjoying festive foods, Bollywood dances, and lots of gift exchanges.

Being an all women’s organisation, Damini celebrates the Diwali and organises the diwali function with a difference. Each year they have a cultural theme. This year, the Punjabi culture was highlighted. The coordinator for the Event was Lila Pratap, the president assisterd by Sudha Bhalla. SudhaJi organised the Punjabi cultural items.. She is one the vice-president of the organisation and a Punjabi by cultural heritage.

Ms. Manju Jehu was the Master of Ceremony assisted by Ms. Kirti Raniga. Dignitaries present at

the event were Mr Peter Russo, Member for Toohey and Cr Jon Raven, Deputy Mayor of Logan City Council.

President Ms. Lila Pratap often strives to bring all women together to socialise and celebrate life leaving behind the mundane they often go through in their daily lives. Damini Women’s organisation consists of a group of women motivated to serve the community and invest in good causes. They undertake projects like sewing pillow covers, blouses etc. to engage women from various cultures and walks of life, they celebrate achievements of women,and also raise funds for donation to educational Institutions in destitute areas in Fiji and India.
