You may remember terrazzo from the 70’s but it’s exploded back onto the interior design scene in a big, bold way and you’ll be seeing it everywhere from decorative terrazzo floor tiles, tables and lamps to wallpapers, ornaments and prints.

WHAT IS TERRAZZO?

Originating in Italy over 500 years ago terrazzo was typically used as flooring in Venetian homes. It’s essentially a composite material comprising of marble chippings that were traditionally set in concrete and was seen as a way to reuse scrapped rock. Once the fragments and chippings are set, the surface is then polished to create a smooth, durable, often matte surface.

THE RESULT?

An intricate and interesting material comprising of unique patterns that deliver an aesthetic punch. These days the durable, speckled material comes in a variety of materials and colours from the fun and vibrant to the more subtle and muted making it exceptionally versatile and easy to incorporate into a host of interior looks.
