We took some time to sit down with Joyce, the founder of Naked Lab, to discover its origin, the science behind what makes Bamboo Silk so special and her story from mum to entrepreneur.

Tell us about yourself and the story behind NakedLab?

When my daughter, Pia, was 2 months old she was diagnosed with very serious eczema, which required the use of steroids to treat it. However, I preferred to avoid using such strong medication and began to explore other solutions, which is when came across organic bedding options. After all, bedding is such an important item for both our homes and our wellbeing. We sleep for long hours and are in constant close contact with our bed sheets, which in turn has a significant impact on our sleep quality and skin health.

My solution for Pia and our first product back in 2018 was to then develop a cot sheet using sustainable, organic, bamboo vegan silk. After seeing how it helped Pia, we have expanded into kids and adult bedding.

What are the benefits of bamboo silk?

And how does it compare to cotton?

Bamboo silk is super soft, organic, sustainable, vegan and incredibly breathable. It stays naturally thermoregulated, keeping your body cooler than usual, resulting in good sleeping hormones that occur during sleep.

How do you care and wash bamboo silk?

Is it harder than usual cotton sheets?

As a health-conscious company, we ensure that our products are produced with the least amount of chemicals, which means extra gentle on skin and hair on top of improving sleep quality. However, in terms of cleaning and care, it’s simple, it's washing machine friendly, just avoid using a tumble dryer.

What are your tips for mumpreneurs?

Being a woman in business, we have a lot of tasks, and we must wear multiple hats. At the same time, we are very good at multitasking, so we tend to be good at managing all these things. One of the few tips I can give is to follow your instincts and take small steps. I think the key to success is to have a plan and make steady progression, if you just keep marching on, you’ll get there, so don't be too much of a perfectionist. If you have an idea, go with it, see what happens.
