Chairperson’s Message Our Passion

- To Unleash the Potential In Your Child...

The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives. - Robert M. Hutchins

Many a times we are beset by the question: How much of learning is education, and how much is information? There have been many opinions on the best way to educate children, and to sift information from education, but none conclusive enough to enable educationists to implement tools to really home in on what constitutes education; and provide it in ample measures to the insatiable curiosity of children. But at Indira, we have reasons to believe that irrespective of what makes for education, the prime aim of the teacher is to keep the child interested, with plenty of knowledge and lots of information, if it will help keep the flame of curiosity burning. And that is exactly what our teachers do, with modules designed to make the child think and question the whys, the wheres and the hows of everything they learn. This makes for a wonderfully interactive time in the classroom; and the wonder keeps growing in off-classroom sessions as we take the child through the school of life into a fun filled, meaningful world that keeps them glued to the subject being

taught. This is what makes Indira different, since teaching and learning by rote is not our cup of tea. Believing that schools have a more comprehensive role to play than mere “educating children, by making them aware of the beauty of the world around them, and sensitising them to the environment - social and otherwise, helping them make responsible choices in life . Enabling children to see, feel, sense and touch life as it is, Indira builds the base of a future India right from the first step the child takes to school and carries on till he passes out of its corridors as a knowing, caring, responsible and extremely conscientious citizen of India. Welcome to Indira National School. Dr. Tarita Shankar Founder Secretary and Chief Managing Trustee - SCES

Chief Executive Principal’s Message

Dear Parents “Every child comes with the message that God is not yet discouraged with man.” We at Indira believe that in every child there is a manifestation of God and we blend these Godly qualities with the skills required for the 21st century.

At Indira National School we strive: ~ To develop and imbibe the skills required for the 21st Century like Leadership,

Teamwork, Global Consciousness, Communication and Technical skills. ~ To resolve issues such as: Memorised facts for tests, too much of textbooks,

superficial knowledge. ~ To make learning more practical, to think differently, work differently and be

more productive. ~ To achieve adaptive expertise (balance between efficiency and innovation). ~ To adapt to new situations rather than only apply what they have already learned. ~ To instill creativity that is both novel and appropriate by taking into account the

goal and standards set by educational community. ~ To be learner centred by evaluating learner’s knowledge and skills and adapting

instructions to promote greater learning. Parents and teachers have to work together as partners in the process of learning. We promise you a safe, supportive and enriching experience at Indira National School. Mrs. Vijaya Joshi Chief Executive Principal

Teaching Methodology Academic Programme We follow the CBSE curriculum but go way beyond it in terms of classroom inputs and activities.

Our programme seeks • to augment the child’s inherent curiosity, for it is the source of all learning. • to build self-esteem and confidence that will ensure responsible citizens of the world with strong fundamentals and deep rooted values. • to uphold Indian traditions, combining its culture with modern teaching. • to develop inherent skills of the child, besides the regular syllabus. • to broaden their outlook with excursions, field trips and experiential learning. Homework for classes I to VIII will be according to a fixed schedule.

Academics • From Class I to III we have tied up with I-discoveri and follow the X seed curriculum. This is also supplemented with workbooks prepared by our own teachers. • In classes IV & V we use the Sangam Buzzword books. • Class VI upwards we follow NCERT books for all subjects except English. • We have also tied up with Thinklabs of IIT to implement a science programme for grades VI,VII & VIII. They are provided with Takeaway Science Kits.

Results of Class – X (2012-13) - AISSE The highlight of the past year was the excellent academic achievements of the children of Class X (AISSE). This year 78 children appeared for the exams and we are proud to announce that we had a 100% result with 20 students getting a perfect 10 CGPA. Hearty congratulations to all the teachers as well who have worked equally hard to ensure that all the students achieve their goal

Skill Enhancement Programme INS has set up a counselling cell staffed by well trained counsellors and remedial teachers. We work towards identifying and rectifying learning difficulties and behavioral problems.

Meal Plan To encourage healthy eating habits in children and save working mothers from an added effort at home, the school provides breakfast to the secondary students and lunch to the primary students. Students of both the sections are provided with a snack packet when they leave for home. The menu is planned keeping in mind the nutritional requirements of growing children.

Transport The school provides school bus facility with a female attendant in a radius of 10 Km to fetch the children to and from school. This facility is provided on all working days.

Digital learning through interactive software We have moved from blackboard teaching to interactive board teaching, making the teaching-learning process not only enjoyable but innovative, leading to student interaction, interest and curiosity.

ERP: (Enterprise Resource Planning software) Through our ERP system, parents, teachers and students share a common interactive platform and share information electronically. Parents can track their ward’s attendance, homework, time-table as well as communicate with their ward’s teachers via email, get the latest updates on school activities on the school website and much more.

THOTS In our constant endeavour and search to provide our students with better learning & development avenues, we are initiating ‘THOTS Program’ for our students. It is a unique concept for the development of Higher Order Thinking Skills & Thinking Processes in children.

Think Lab When one thinks of science one only thinks of it as experiments and observations. However one needs to think beyond test tubes and burners. It is a subject that helps one to be organized and think logically. ‘Think Lab’ is an organization which inculcates inquisitiveness, an important prerequisite to be a successful student of science. ‘Think Lab’ provides each student a science kit of his own. Through this kit a student learns about the common apparatus used in science. This programme is availed by students of classes IV to VIII

Swim & Save Programme Keeping in mind the need of imparting quality training to our budding swimmers, INS has collaborated with RLSS (Rashtriya Life Saving Society-India). Swim and Survive® is a swimming and water safety initiative that seeks to increase skills to survive an accidental fall in deep waters among children to prevent accidents of drowning and promote safer participation in aquatic activity.

Career Counselling We organise Career Counselling workshops for students of the senior classes.

Our Teachers “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge. - Albert Einstein

We have an excellent team of qualified, passionate and dedicated teachers who believe that learning is a life long process. Teachers act as facilitators in nurturing and enriching the innate talents and potential of each individual child. Our teachers are like gardeners who meet each child’s needs, give proper nourishment, love, attention and care. We ensure job satisfaction, as this translates into better performance and output.
