Seating Options For Productivity Although ergonomics is often joked about and not taken seriously, it’s no laughing matter. Poor ergonomics can lead to heart disease, blood clots, muscle pain, and more. Ergonomics plays a key role when it comes to correctly sizing chairs and desks and choosing furniture that promotes healthy positions and allows movement. Work The Way You Want

When picking a desk, it is important to remember that each user’s needs are unique. Ergonomics plays a big role when it comes to focus and productivity as well as improving health and safety. According to the most recent ANSI/BIFMA anthropometric studies, the average female in the U.S. workforce is 5’ 4” and requires a work surface height of 24.5” when seated and 41.3” when standing. The average male is 5’ 10” and requires a work surface height of 26.5” when seated and 44.8” when standing. These people are considered the 50th percentile of the workforce. The ability to meet the diverse needs of the average worker, and the extremes of the shortest and tallest workers (known as the 5th to 95th percentile), can only be achieved with adjustable height desks that adjust from 22.5” to 48.5”.

An Indoff Case Study Air Force Storage Solutions Before the construction of their new building began, an Air Force installation evaluated the current storage situation of essential flight protection gear housed in the Life Support Section. The wooden lockers, which held flight suits and helmets, survival vests and personal items, were in a state of disrepair. The facility needed a more secure storage solution with optimum organization and durability. The base contacted Indoff to design, create and provide a custom locker solution to store this flight gear. One of Indoff’s Material Handling Partners worked with the client to create a storage locker to accommodate their specialty items as well as the space alloted. 280 lockers measuring 16” W x 15” D x 72” H fill the Life Support Section, maximizing the available storage footprint. Two-tone paint that coordinates with the colors of the Air Force base, not only creates an aesthetically pleasing look, but allows additional light in the interior of the locker. Each locker is equipped with a key-lock box to secure and store personal items, a top shelf and two utility pegs for hanging storage. The doors are fitted with hasp closures that allow an individual combination lock to secure the locker. Diamond patterns are punched into the doors and sides to provide adequate ventilation for the contents inside.

LED Lighting Solutions Switching to LED lighting is one of the easiest ways to save money today. Not only do LED lights use 75% less energy than your incandescent bulb, but it can save in maintenance costs and free up time for your staff to tackle other more important projects. Researchers have found that exposure to short wavelength or blue light during the day directly improves alertness and performance. Blue-enriched white light stimulates the brain,improves alertness, performance, and sleep quality. The intensity and color temperature of artificial lighting affects physiological processes in the human body, including: blood pressure, heart rate variability, and core temperature. Fluorescent lighting on the other hand causes some additional unexpected side effects on top of their increased cost. While it has been proven that fluorescent lighting does not cause migraines, it can make people who do suffer from migraines feel worse at times. People with migraines are very sensitive to light, and bright lights such as fluorescent lighting can turn a mild headache into a fullblown migraine. Installing LED lighting in your facilities can have a massive impact to the health, safety and performance of your employees. Outdoor lighting solutions can also increase the security of school property while reducing crime such as physical violence and car break-ins. The money you can save in energy costs can have a big impact over the course of the 25 year lifespan of most LED bulbs. An Indoff Case Study The University of Houston While dimly lit parking garages may be great for scary movies, in real life a well-lit garage is essential for the safety and security of residents and drivers. When Brittani Hunter, General Manager of Cullen Oaks Apartments, noticed that some of the residential parking garages and lots in and around campus at the University of Houston were not meeting expectations, she reached out to her ACC Regional Manager, Chris Coleman, to see what could be done to resolve the issue. Fortunately for Brittani, Chris had just returned from a Facilities Conference where he participated in a LED lighting session led by Indoff, Inc.’s, John Vasquez. John was able to turn to Bob Edgley, the local Indoff Energy Solutions Representative, who walked Brittani and Chris through the process of performing, at no cost, a professional audit of the property’s lighting to determine the value of upgrading. Once the audit was completed, Indoff was able to source the most appropriate vendor and products to meet the requirements to do the job right. Cullen Oaks Apartments replaced the parking lot and garage lighting with LED wall packs, canopy, and high bay lighting. Based on kilo watt savings, the new lighting package is estimated to pay for itself in as little as 31 months. And based on a 4% utility increase per year, the entire project has an estimated cost savings of $597,000 over a 25-year time frame. Not only will the lighting package save hundreds of thousands of dollars over its lifetime, but it also met the requirements for an energy incentive rebate from CenterPoint Energy for $13,718. Indoff took care of all the paperwork and submissions to make sure that ACC received every cent they were entitled.

Go Green With Solar Lighting Solar energy appears to be the energy source of the future as the sun is an immense source of power that won’t be going anywhere for another 7 to 8 billion years. That’s some serious sustainability. Every year solar panels not only become more efficient, but smaller and more consumer friendly. An Indoff Case Study The Park at New Melle Lakes St. Charles County in Missouri installed solar parking lot lighting at The Park at New Melle Lakes. The park is home to The Landhaus rental facility. The parks department recently opened it for weddings and special events. The facility overlooks the nearby lake. With space for 160 people, a deck, and beautiful views of the lake, it had almost everything. But it did not have access to electricity for lighting in the parking lot. Since autumn is one of the most scenic times in the area, events could easily slip into after dark hours. It was important that we could provide not only a beautiful scene, but a safe one as well.

Installing Solar Parking Lot Lighting

St. Charles parks opted for solar parking lot lighting. Every light has its own power center, so there is no trenching or wiring expense. On top of that, the park’s own facilities team was able to install the lighting. Installing the lighting is as easy as planting a tree and you don’t have to water them.

Reliability

The Smart Lights are customized for the project location. That means that the system will provide reliable lighting 365 nights a year. And, with an operating temperature of -40F to +157F, it will perform regardless of the weather.

Maintenance

The maintenance schedule is attractive too. Using the latest NiMH technology, the batteries won’t need replacement for 10 or more years. Overall, it’s a fast and cost-effective way to bring lighting to areas that don’t have infrastructure in place already.
