Materials THREADS Anchor Stranded Cotton 1 skein of each colour (see key), worked with 3 strands (cross stitch) and 2 strands (backstitch) IN ADDITION For the napkin ring: 2 pieces of plastic canvas For the napkin ring: about 10 x 20 cm Magic Canvas, e.g. from Zweigart

Instructions All you need to do Tea light holder Cut the plastic canvas into 4 equal pieces. Following the chart, embroider a pumpkin motif onto each piece of plastic canvas, working 2 in orange and 2 in green. Work in cross stitch using 2 strands of Anchor Stranded Cotton. Each cross stitch is made over one intersection of plastic canvas. Now cut out the pumpkins, leaving one unworked hole of canvas all around. At the side edges, there are 3 cross stitches where each two pumpkins meet; sew these together as shown in diagram A. Place a tea light holder in the centre. Napkin ring Following the chart, embroider the pumpkin pattern in cross stitch onto the Magic Canvas, using all 6 strands of Anchor Stranded Cotton. Don’t embroider the white squares; they represent the background fabric. The left-hand and right-hand row of squares is identical. Don’t embroider this yet. Work a row of satin stitch along the top and bottom edges, then trim close to the edge. Trim the excess fabric along the two short edges, leaving 1 row of unworked squares along each. Now make a ring, overlapping the two short edges. Following the chart, embroider the last row of empty squares.
