Wedding Day Survival Tips by Alison Ryce

Foundation

The perfect look starts with the right foundation. Every bride needs a foundation that is waterproof and humidity proof. You’ll spend a lot of time hugging guests, so a transfer-resistant foundation is a must. If your skin is dry, use a foundation that gives the skin a natural looking glow. On the other hand, if your skin is naturally oily and shiny, you will need a foundation that mattifies the shine. I recommend Mary Kay’s Luminous Wear Foundation for dry skin and Mary Kay’s Matte Wear Foundation for Oily skin.

Eye Lashes

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. It is understood that you’ll do anything to look your very best but extreme measures could be very uncomfortable. If you’ve never used false eyelashes before, your wedding day isn’t the right day to try something you’ve never done before. Use waterproof mascara and apply an extra coat on the outside corner of your eye. Make sure it’s a mascara that is flawless and clump free. Your beautiful eyes will stand out in your wedding photos.

Blush

The purpose of blush is to highlight your cheeks and make them stand out. The secret to blush is the fact that less is more. Add a hint of color to the apples of your cheeks. Your ideal cheek color is the color that shows up when you pinch your cheeks. Stick to that color, and you’ll be a beautiful, blushing bride.

Primers

On this day, you must use primers! Eye primers prolong the life of your eye colors and make them appear brighter. Foundation primers create an even canvas that evens out the skin’s texture. This allows the foundation to be applied smoothly and it also extends its wear so you’ll look your very best on your special day.

Every bride wants to look and feel their best on their wedding day. With beauty mistakes out of the way, you can focus on more important things; like your groom!

DREAMS ARE FOREVER UNTIL YOU GIVE UP & STOP DREAMING

Her ambition to make a future for us inspired my mother to bus me and my middle brother an hour away from our community to an aristocratic community to attend school. Although her decision ultimately changed my life for the better, I soon found it difficult to cope with the wealth of my friends and classmates as well as the fact that most of them lived with both their parents. It affected me to see how well they engaged with their parents, especially those whose fathers were engaged as team dads or volunteers. I played many games, scored many baskets, and ran many touchdowns during my athletic career; I wanted to share these experiences with my father, but he was nowhere to be found.

Time Heals All Wounds

I would go on to attend college, began a career, experience a failed marriage and lost my mother, uncle, and grandmother before I would see my father again. Those years in between seemed like a life time. When I visited my brother in Atlanta, GA 2003 he revealed that my mother had my father’s social security number. I knew at that moment my life would change either for the better or the worse. When I returned home to Charlotte, NC I phoned a good friend of mine who worked for the IRS; and to my surprise within minutes she had my father’s information including his address and phone number. I could not believe that for the first time in nearly 20yrs in I was only a phone call away from hearing my father’s voice. I finally mustered up the courage to call him and though he didn’t answer at first, minutes later I received a call from him and it was the moment I had anticipated for over twenty years.

Same Day Same Tune

That same year my dad met me in Milwaukee, WI for Thanksgiving and I felt like a child on Christmas finally; but unfortunately my excitement was short lived. My father and I kept in contact but our visits were sparingly. I realized that although I wanted to win this fight the battle would prove to be costly and exhausting.

Do You Believe In Miracles & Second or Third Chances?

Recently in April 2011 my father called to say “Son I want to come see you,” and I didn’t hesitate to say “Yes.” It was the first time I’d seen him in years and he and I had the best of times during his three week visit. We talked about life, laughed about love, and lived in the moment with no reminders of our sordid past. It was the most exhilarating time in my life. I was asked at one point did I believe in miracles and giving second and third chances to those who do wrong. I must say, if I didn’t before I do now! There is hope for the hopeless and I am a firm believer that “Dreams are

Mr. Michael Drayton Sr. BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

T

he poster child for “never giving up”, Michael Drayton began his journey at the ripe old age of 20 while attending the University of Illinois as a pre-med student. He discovered, whilst dissecting a body, that this was not the best career move for him. During this time, he was working at UPS, and would later be recruited by New York Life Insurance Co., where he excelled in financial planning. He then began training and working at Hamilton Investments as a Financial Analyst. Drayton attended many schools, earning advance degrees at the University of Illinois-Chicago, Columbia College, Cambridge University, Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, and Sasin Business School of Bangkok. He holds an MBA in International Business and Management and has post-grad work in macro-economics. His drive led him to start one of his many businesses, the Exodus Investment Club, a female investment club, and raised more than $750k to finance Acts Records, which he sold to a private investor and is now in turn Acts 2 Records, Drayton Entertainment, and Kuumba and Zloty Publishing. He formed the radio show and magazine, GospelFlava, and became CFO and Cofounder of the CGMA. Mr. Drayton colaunched the Lakeview Finance Company and the Builders Center of Chicago, an architectural planning company.

Drayton has become a leader in the community, as he was one of the keynote speakers at the Southside Builders Association inaugural event. He is also the principal/owner of Drayton Ramsey & Hirsch holdings, a private equity company with holdings in art, metals, small businesses, and equities. Drayton is a father, husband, mentor, consultant, and life coach. Recently, he faced the tragedy of having his father in law, Officer Michael Bailey, murdered. However, tragedy is not new to Drayton. While achieving various milestones, there were failures and family tragedies. Drayton has never met his father, his maternal grandfather was murdered when he was a teen, his sister overdosed, and both of his stepfathers died suddenly. Rather than give up, Drayton keeps going and giving to others. He believes that America provides the best opportunity for success to those that want it . Drayton is currently finishing his first book: Quotes, Notes and Random Thoughts, a book of inspiration, humor, and self-expression. He has traveled extensively under the motto “the world is bigger than my block “, to the Caribbean, Cannes, Beijing, China, Bangkok, Burma, East and West Berlin, Germany, Krakow, Warsaw, Poland, France, London, Cambridge, Oxford England, and Osaka, Japan. He continues to raise capital for various business interest revitalization through his private equity company to assist urban businesses in become profitable, and is exploring opportunities in various countries on the continent of Africa.

I

have known Michael Drayton since the age of 14 when he came to St. Sabina church as the Minister of Music. Since then, he has inspired me musically by giving me the opportunity to fill in and play drums. Also, we would always have discussions about politics, religion, and business. He has always challenged me to do my best and think outside of the box. I am now 23, and we still talk regularly. He is a good source of knowledge and wisdom.

Christian Plummer I wanted to write you to say that Michael Drayton is a great man. He has been very encouraging and has spoken into my life on many occasions. He has been a man of integrity and substance in the Chicago land area for years. I’m honored to know him. God bless.

M

y name is Moni Rashad; I’m an artist, writer and youth activist. I’m sending this email to share my experiences with Mr. Drayton. We met during a time that could have been negative for me but he encouraged me to remain positive and smile. I was being used by someone and was mad as heck and at that time, I was in the process of redefining my music business and writing. I had just finished the final draft of my first novel and shared with Mr. Drayton my intentions of self-publishing. The advice that he gave me is stuck at the forefront, middle and back of my mind; “Never lead your business with your emotions.” As he has offered any and all advice and assistance whenever I reach out to him; he has been nothing but a blessing! So many successful people don’t have time for the little guy starting out but Mr. Drayton has proven to be a man of his word. Although he has agreed to help me when I’m ready to record a new project he has never told me NO or put me off when I ask him to help out one of my associates. Even though I’ve never reached out for my own endeavors, he has helped my friends when I ask him to help. He doesn’t brag or boast on the many people that he mentors; he simply supports and encourages others to reach their highest potential expecting to see the fruits of his labor through the success of others.

Moni Rashad www.monirashad.blogspot.com Good day!

I have had the pleasure of knowing Michael Drayton for about 18 years. From the start of our professional relationship, Michael’s innovative outlook on business provoked immediate expansion in the way I viewed the business in which we were tasked to develop. Michael’s professional work style and business practices were intriguing and spread to others and myself like an airborne virus! Though Michael is innovative and creative, he is also strategic and disciplined. [He is] a risk taker; however, he analyzes all possibilities prior to making high-risk decisions. Michael’s interpersonal skills are nurturing and empowering. He has a brilliant way of coaching and mentoring people to become highly effective. I contribute much of my career and personal growth and development to the relationship that I share with Michael Drayton. It has been a pleasant journey to a brighter future and unlimited possibilities! Sincerely,

Regina Gaston,

Alonzo Ruffin AS AN ACTOR, COMEDIAN AND FATHER ALONZO RUFFIN IS A TRIPLE THREAT; but he is not the only talented Ruffin in the family. Ruffin’s older brother, John Ruffin Jr., is a playwright and director and has been blessed with a movie deal on the Gospel Music Channel (GMC). Alonzo Ruffin has been featured in two of his brother’s films: Love Me or Leave Me & The Ideal Husband.

The humbled entertainer explains that at the end of the day when no one has laughed at his jokes or when he’s had a stressful day at work, the love and adoration from his children never waver. Ruffin detest parents that tell their children “do as I say and not as I do”, and supports parents who chose to be role models for their children by leading lives full of character and integrity.

Though Ruffin is very proud of his theatric and comedic endeavors, what brings him the most joy is being a father of three: Alonzo Jr, Anaiah and Nyla. Alonzo’s says, “You never have an off day when you’re a parent,” and he lives by this philosophy daily. “I’m in love with my children, they’re my blessings and I thank God each and everyday for entrusting me with them,” states Ruffin.

PK gathers much of his material from his day-to-day interaction with his children. “Now that’s what keeps me going, working, living, laughing and each day,” says Ruffin, “that I live and get a chance to love God, right my wrongs, be a better dad and an overall better person.”

MY

name is Ametra Self and the man I want to talk about is my husband, Tommie. I met Tommie over fifteen years ago during my time working in the Stock Market. We became close friends and soon after my layoff, we married. Seven years ago, I gave birth to our beautiful daughter; and everything was perfect, that is until our baby turned only six weeks old. I became ill and was rushed to the emergency room; where I was immediately injected by needles and IV’s. When the doctors and nurses had finally calmed down, I was told that I had suffered from a Pulmonary Embolism, multiple blood clots on my lungs. I was also told that I only had a 25% chance of survival. I was close to seven weeks post partum and with all the changes; I suddenly slipped into a deep depression; and at this time my husband, only 32 at the time, stepped up full time. He not only cared for our ten-year-old son, a newborn baby, but me as well. He began cooking; cleaning and doing everything he could to keep our family together; and he defended me when others suggested my placement in a mental institution. My husband maintained our faith in God, and did everything he could to keep me home. Not only was he doing all the things I was too helpless to do, he also worked full time. His daily routine consisted of early morning bottle feedings, giving me my medication, calming me down after multiple severe anxiety attacks, and getting our son ready for school. Even after all this, he had himself to take care of and a nine-to-five shift to attend to. I can’t begin to express how grateful I am that God would give me and my children a wonderful husband and father. I have seen many men walk away from even a normal household; so his perseverance during the darkest days of our marriage proved that he is truly a Man of God. After suffering for over a year, his constant love and support pulled me out of my depression and gave me the strength to move forward. I have been moving non-stop ever since. To this day, my husband still works full time and on multiple times per week he prepares our family dinner. It seems when God called my father home, he sent me a replacement; a man who takes care of his family. On this past Mothers Day, we celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary and he agreed to renew our vows for our 10th anniversary since I was ill when we got married. My husband is a fine example of how a man should act, walk, talk and love. Thank you, Ametra Self

THE CONSTANTLY EVOLVING ONLINE WORLD, the lines between journalism, marketing and public relations have blurred, but the work of Toure Muhammad is a solid example of all three. With 18 years of experience, this proud father of three is dedicated to “helping breathe new life into the marketing and PR efforts of Black-owned businesses.” In 2001, he launched Bean Soup Times, a media, marketing and PR Company. “My life’s mission is to share information that will inspire, motivate and uplift,” says Muhammad. He has also received awards and recognition for his work with TAG TEAM Marketing, Inc. an organization that markets quality Black-owned products and services to Black consumers. The Morehouse College graduate began his career as a reporter and photographer for The Final Call newspaper where he was on the front lines, giving a voice to the voiceless. During his tenure at The Final Call, Muhammad conducted interviews with elected officials, civil rights leaders, and activists, including Reverends Jesse L. Jackson and Al Sharpton. He has also sat down with Hip Hop artists like Too Short, Doug E. Fresh, Queen Latifah, Ghetto Boys, and Ice T. In addition to activists and artists, Muhammad has also interviewed Larry Hoover, the reputed leader of the Gangster Disciples. Additionally, he has also successfully pitched news in every major news paper in the country including New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Chicago Tribune. Muhammad has also written several articles on issues including police brutality, gang violence, public housing, mental illness, government corruption, entertainment and more. In 1997, his history book titled Chronology of Nation of Islam History sold more than 10,000 copies. He was also the communications director for a national organization that educates, organizes, and mobilizes the religious community to support worker rights’ issues. “I fundraised, crafted media messages and developed strategic plans,” he said.

Muhammad owns his own satire and entertainment publication titled Bean Soup Times. “I decided to be both a journalist and a comedian…since most of the news was a joke anyway,” he said. Since its beginning, Bean Soup Times has been a matrix of support, encouragement and advocacy for Chicago artists, entrepreneurs, activists, and organizations via a print edition, events, website, press releases, email marketing, flyer distribution, ad placement, networking and word of mouth recommendations. Muhammad also managed the publishing of a quarterly newsletter for over 30,000 members; and developed communication plans, message, themes and communication vehicles for religious, community, worker, and political audiences. While working for Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Muhammad says, “We exposed how the uninsured were being overcharged for medical treatment. We helped many drowning in medical debt get their bills drastically cut or reduced to nothing. And we successfully launched a hospital safety campaign that became the Hospital Report Card Act,” he said. The bill was signed into law in August 2003 and calls for hospitals to publicly report on staffing levels, nurse turnover and vacancy rates, and infection rates. For two and a half years, Muhammad worked as the communications director for Congressman Bobby L. Rush where he developed and implemented media and constituent outreach. During this time he traveled back and forth between Washington, DC and Chicago managing both his national and local presence. No stranger to being the subject of the media, Muhammad has been featured in the The Final Call, Chicago Reader, Upscale magazine, rolling out newspaper, and N’Digo magapaper. He’s been interviewed by Tavis Smiley on NPR, Cliff Kelly, Monique Caradine, and Steve Edwards on WBEZ (Chicago public radio), among other radio shows and local cable shows. For two years he appeared weekly on Black Chicago’s historic WVON radio station invited by media personality Sharon McGhee. Toure Muhammad can be contacted at: toure@beansouptimes.com or at www.beansouptimes.com

The Joys of Fatherhood By Isaiah Russell

T

he ideal of fatherhood is often misconstrued; it exceeds everything we imagine it to be and is truly a raw reality. The common notion is that the sole responsibility of fathers is to help their children grow up and get out; at least that is what my father taught me—and that’s what his father taught him. The truth is that fatherhood is a dual process where the father aids the child in their growing process, and the child aids the father’s growth. I´ve noticed that children help adults mature—and fast. In light of this, being a single father is challenging but it’s a wonderful process that gives men a life to nurture, a pupil to teach, and a chance to see what once was a seed develop into a virtuous man or woman with ideals, morals, and goals. When the children of single fathers are successful, which I’m sure they will be, those fathers can stick their chest out with pride knowing that they were a part of the growing up process. Those little things are what “The Joys of Fatherhood” are all about.

STANLEY MARTIN

IS THE FOUNDER AND PROGRAM MANAGER OF THE EMPOWER TO SUCCEED NETWORK, (ETSN). Martin’s goal for ETSN was to create a channel where resources, information and business opportunities could flow freely within the communities. His focus is to provide resources for underserved and disadvantaged communities and individuals. Stanley was born on the south side of Chicago where he faced many challenges and struggled daily with trying to discover a direction for his life. In his community, career choices were very few and commonly centered around fast food services, warehouse, or manual labor. “I just knew that I wanted my life to make a difference somehow. I founded The Empower to Succeed Network, (ETSN) in 2003 after I was unemployed,” he said. In searching for new job opportunities, he gathered many resources and information that he thought could benefit others. This search prompted Martin to start his own resource and job fairs. In addition, he began a job support group at his neighboring church where participants were able to share job leads, and exchange employment information and other resources.

“I enjoy what I do and I like to see people’s lives change for the better as a result of having access to something they were not aware of before,” says Martin. Martin says that he is inspired by both his wife and his son, “I think it is important for my son to see me helping others, it shows him that life is more important than just what you can get out of it.” When Stanley is not hosting or facilitating events and meetings, he loves to watch sports and movies. “I also enjoy singing on my praise team at church,” says Martin. “My faith is a very important part of my life and my goal is to see people improve their quality of life and in turn help someone else improve theirs.”

Sullivan Staffing Strategies/Who’s Who Publishing

Diversity Must Be a Business Strategy EVER SINCE THE PHRASE “EQUAL OPPORTUNITY”WAS FIRST UTTERED, CORPORATEAMERICA has been exploring ways to widen opportunities for people of all backgrounds. The process of opening doors to wider participation for those who historically had not been fully valued has played out with mixed success, with progress varying from company to company. Only in the last several years has American business really begun to turn the corner on this issue. True progress is coming about as more companies abandon the belief that diversity is a “nice social program” that others expect, in favor of the more fundamental view that diversity is a sound business strategy which enhances long-term success in the marketplace.

• A diverse employee base is better equipped to serve a diverse customer base. Who will deliver that investment product to an Hispanic family, business loan to an Arab-American store owner, or first mortgage to an African-American couple? Will it be someone who understands the richness of the borrower’s culture, respects his or her capacity for hard work, and might even speak the language? Or will it be someone who draws hasty conclusions about a particular customer? And what of vendors and suppliers? Will they feel welcomed as full partners?

• For our organization to be successful, we must ensure that every individual has the opportunity to fully utilize his or her talents. The new premise for diversity has The old diversity model viewed minorities several underpinnings: as blocks of individuals who could be “plugged into” a monolithic • Changing demographics mean company culture with minimum risk. more of corporate America’s customers The rapidly emerging view is that and employees will be minorities. each individual brings a unique skill It’s widely known that by the year set to the table, which ought to be tapped 2050, more than half of this country’s to its fullest, so both employee and population will be minorities. For its part, management at all levels is responsible for ensuring that individual differences are prized and that barriers to the new approach are eradiated. • A diverse workplace generates more ideas and innovations, allowing a firm to better compete. With working Americans feasting on the best job market in 30 years, the spoils will go to those employers which demonstrate a genuine openness to new ideas and individuality—of thought, race, and gender. Applicants or current employees who don’t feel valued will vote with their feet. From the foregoing, it is clear that diversity is a bona fide business strategy that must be embraced. Organizations like Bank One must continue to empower management at all levels to act as change agents for full employee and customer diversity. Only by doing so will they thrive in today’s highly competitive and increasingly global business world.

Parents 101: Teaching YOUR Children Financial Responsibility

By: Bahiyah Shabazz, MBA, Fabulous & Money Savvy™ Coach

W

e have experienced the joy of celebrating both Mother’s day and Father’s day; let’s continue to rejoice in the lessons. Parents are influential in the upbringing of their children while teaching positive habits. Financial responsibility is not an easy task especially since children emulate the behaviors of their parents. Financial responsible adults begin as financial well-informed children. Children need to know how the economy works. It’s the responsibility of the parent to convey the importance of saving, establishing credit, investing and retirement Create a solid foundation by discussing ways to build net worth and begin with paying for chores

1.Save 10% of your income.

Encourage your children to open a savings account and deposit a percentage of his/her wage. This will begin the discipline process that will continue into adulthood.

2.Discuss a family budget.

Create a financial plan with the entire family when budgeting for vacations.

This will allow your children to view the process of living within your means and establishing ways to have fun without sacrificing your needs for wants.

3.Balance a monthly statement.

As children learn the value of a dollar he/ she will need to keep track of every dollar spend. Teach your children how to budget a transaction book so that he/she won’t overdraw their accounts. Whether the accounts are at a bank or at home, children must be mindful of how much their working with.

4.Pay bills on time.

Open a layaway with your children to teach the importance of keeping up with a bill and making payments on time. This will also teach your children the discipline of only spending what you can afford. Establish a regular discussion about finances. We are always taught that communication is the key to a healthy lifestyle. The tools you teach your children are carried into adulthood for prudent decisions. This is a legacy worth investing.

A MESSAGE FROM...

Lutonya M Lang

A Father’s Love I REMEMBER WHEN MY SISTER LUCRETIA AND I WE WERE GROWING UP and we would go spend time with our father. He would take us to dinner, a movie or whatever he could afford at the time and just spend time with us. He would open the car door for us and show us how we were to be treated as, ladies. That still holds a special place in my heart, how he took the time to share with us who he was and what we should look for in a husband of our own someday. Even when my father would come in from a long day of work he never made any excuses to get out of helping my mom or spending time with us. Despite his lack of a father figure in his life and not knowing how to be a good father or husband, he is close to perfect in my eyes. Not having a father figure in his home and not knowing his father well, he decided that he would make the change with us. Despite how different my siblings and I are, one thing is the same and that is our Fathers Love... After seven years of me being the baby (Out of four children,

I am the second oldest.) my parents had another child and his name is Jeffrey M Lang, Jr.

Our men, who love us, care for us and their children have help shape and mold, stronger, independent and fearless children. In ter v iew w i th

DAMON WILLAMS

You were a business owner before you decided to get into comedy. What was the reason behind this transition?

A: I was accumulating debt, losing money and my hair owning that Subway, so I sold it. Comedy was just something to try since I had no job and no business; didn’t look at it as a profession until my first performance. Then I knew.

What do you like most about doing stand-up? A: I enjoy a group of people getting together, forgetting their life issues, and laughing as one. No better sound than an eruption of laughter, especially when it’s due to my thoughts.

How was it working with comedians Bernie Mac and Steve Harvey, who have been doing it for years, on The Original Kings of Comedy tour? Did they give you any advice? A: The King of Comedy may be the single biggest highlight of my career. It may not ultimately be my greatest achievement, but surely a highlight. Working with those great comics in NBA arenas across the US was a historic experience. There will never be another Original Kings tour no matter who you put together. They did it first and did it BIG. Having that kind of access to Bernie Mac was the best. He always gave me great advice, but I also got a chance to just hang out with him. He is well missed. I have a great relationship with DL. Ced and I are cool, and Steve Harvey gave me props. What more can a young comic ask for? HISTORIC.

Who are your comedic role models?

A: I have been influenced by several comics. George Willborn gave me the most guidance early on. I respect Chris Rock’s work ethic; he gets in the clubs and works on material on open mic nights. Eddie Murphy set the standard; he took it to superstar status. Richard Pryor was just the truth; pure, raw, honest, genius.

What inspires you to entertain day after day? A: Bills!!!!! Plus it’s a joy to do it (see answer 2).

Many major comedians have stemmed from Chicago. What is it about the Windy City’s comedic scene that produces all of these great entertainers?

A: Chicago is a blue collar big city with a small town feel. Lots of our people have southern roots, so it’s more of a common sense atmosphere. Besides that, Chicago makes you hustle, so we apply that mentality to entertainment. As for our current wave of comics, in the last 20 years, we have a circuit that challenges you to be the best. Our audiences are very savvy; they know funny and won’t tolerate mediocrity. You have to blow it up to make it on our set, so each of us strives for that during our performances.

You have been on many entertainment television shows like BET’s ComicView and Def Comedy Jam. Is having your own show something you would like to do in the near future? A: I want to have my own situation; I’m not sure what direction I will take. It could be radio, TV talk, reality, sketch, or sitcom. I like bringing talented people together for projects, so I may ultimately get into producing as well.

What are your other future projects we should be on the lookout for?

A: I’m working on something that could really be big for me and Comedy in general. It’s an idea that I cant fully express, but one aspect of it will be animated.

Is it tough balancing your career and raising your children?

A: Parenting is a full time job in itself. I decided to make a choice of being a father first, but there were times when I had to focus on work so I could afford to be a good Dad.

How do you cope with traveling and being away from your children?

A: Travel is tough when you have to miss games or things like that, but fortunately, I’m self-employed, so I can choose not to travel when necessary. That’s also why I maintained so many comedy spots in Chicago so I could stay home and still have income. We’re the 3rd largest city. I believe Chi is a place people want to get to, not some place you should try to get away from. Not all share that philosophy, but it worked for me.

Do you have your kids in mind when you are coming up with your jokes and stand-up routines?

A: I do have my kids in mind not only for material, but also I was aware that they may see it some day so I limited some of the things I would say. Now that my son is grown, I can be more candid.

“I believe Chi is a place people want to get to, not some place you should try to get away from. Not all share that philosophy, but it worked for me.”

Are you more of a laid back/jokester parent to your kids or more strict in your parenting ways?

A: I’m a laid back person in general. I don’t believe people hear you better if you yell, so I lead by example and try to give sound advice.

What is the best advice you could give your kids? A: Find something you love and give it your all; it will pay off.

Is your son thinking about following in your footsteps? A: He’s mentioned it before, but he’s such a talented kid in so many areas, he could do whatever he chooses and be successful. He has done some acting in film (Roll Bounce) and commercials. He’s also been featured nationally for his knowledge of financial markets.

What was the best Father’s Day gift you’ve ever gotten?

A: My son has written his thoughts and appreciation on many greeting cards. His words outweigh all the actual presents I have received.

What would you say to other fathers out there trying to follow their dreams, yet provide for their family? A: Family first is always the best advice. Things come and go; success is empty without love and family. How has your own father molded you into the man you are today, and how do you push those same morals onto your own son? A: My dad was not able to be an early influence, but from the time I was 12, he has steered me in the right direction with words and actions.

What are some of your fondest Father’s Day memories? A: See 15.

Which is more rewarding: being a comedian, or being a father? A: I consider my son to be my greatest achievement hands down.

You have around 4,000 followers on Twitter? What’s the craziest tweet you have ever received from a fan? A: Hmm nothing stands out.

You tweet a lot about VH1 shows. Are you a realitytv junkie? What’s your favorite show? A: I wouldn’t say a lot, but I peek at reality-tv to stay current and relevant. I do a report on Tom Joyner called SERIOUSLY IGNORANT NEWS.

If you could have a once-in-a lifetime dinner with one prestigious individual, past or present, who would it be?

A: RICHARD PRYOR. I would have loved to just kick it with him. I know there are greater people to meet, but that would surely be the most fun.

“ I consider my son to be my greatest achievement hands down.”
