If SmartWood is not reinstated, then once certificates held by the companies it audited expire, those clients will have to find a new auditor to remain in the FSC program who might take a tougher stand on implementing FSC’s revised controlled wood standard. This will have major ramifications for native hardwood producers who may find it impossible to meet these new standards which industry observers believe are geared for plantations only.
