These classic tights are having a major comeback, and all it takes is the right amount of inspiration to work them into your existing wardrobe. One direction to look at them is as an add on letting them peek out from under the holes of your ripped jeans, or showing off your sexy ankles by going for the sock variation and some strappy sandals. It’s all about unexpected pairings. While this huge 90’s trend won’t exactly keep you warm in the same way wool tights might, its a great form of layering. Oversized open mesh brings a vintage feel to swimwear with innovative cuts, sheer, and solid panelling. Besides layering, fishnets bring other benefits. One of them has to be that they help you block uneven skin tones, discoloration or even celulitis. Giving a slight pattern that tricks the eye. They also help bridge the gap between the top of boots and the hem of jeans, skirts or dresses. Fishnets are available for a series of skin tones which are neutral enough so they can be worn with any color or pattern.
real or fake?
Why are fashion labels suddenly so interested in ‘faking’ themselves? Why corporate counterfeit is big for the evolution of fashion? Balenciaga and Dries Van Noten lead this big movement using logos from fabric suppliers and their parent company to poke fun at modern society. Bootleg or ‘unlicensed’ branding has been associated with making luxury brands more accessible for the public. Bootlegs have evolved into something culturally fascinating; they are a game of irony, hype and humor, and the game is fast. Survival in the fashion industry today depends on leaving people wanting more and more through collablorations, exclusive pieces and self-bootlegs The luxury DIY-er, Ava Nirui, has gained over 80,000 followers on Instagram for putting Louis Vuitton logos on her asthma inhalers and glamorize her nikes with the Prada logo. Her bedazzling skills have no limits and its what makes everyone intrigued. One thing is for sure, bootlegs only work because of the consumer’s desire.
#FREETHENIPPLE
This trend is a particular part of the female anatomy, previously kept as a taboo, its finally having a moment of freedom. Even though this movement is just starting, it is a big step for women and our rights. Being a huge factor of inspiration for the big current protest, Women’s March, nipple-baring outfits are great for celebrating women’s beautiful bodies. Designers like Alexandre Vauthier, Balmain, and Dior’s creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, are embracing the female body by creating revealing pieces for the runway. The Hadid sisters, the Kardashians, and Kate Moss being massive celebrity influencers, are just proof that this generation is not body shamed, or more specifically, nipple-shamed. As the Women’s march protesters reminded us, ‘my body, my choice’.
TRACK IS BACK
Time to skip the gym and try this athleisure trend ASAP. Athleisure’s slef-assured place on the fashion world has shown no signs of letting up any time soon. Legging and tightpants haters are loving this trend since its not only comfortable but in style. Thanks to designers and more than a few celebrity endorsers, a new, not-so-basic bottom is ready to take its place. This everyday-wear and figure flattering trend is not only perfect to run errands but also to travel in. Their leg-lengthening capabilities are seen around the world from the runway to the streets. Often associated with off-duty athletes, track pants have a rich history and have a big future ahead. The fashion world is finally BACK ON TRACK offering versatile versions of this sporty look leaving behind the dull Adidas’ three-stripped joggers that defined the look of early hip-hop. Cholé’s Spring ‘16 and Givenchy’s Resort’17’s collection brought us a fun and chic vibe with multicolored-striped side panels, split-hems, and a wide-leg silhouettes. At least we don’t need a gym membership to take on this up-to-the-minute trend.

50 shades of yellow
For quite a long time, women have considered yellow to be a shade that does nothing for their skin tones, eyes or hair yet the runway is determined to rock the sun-splashed tint. From mellow mustard to BOLD in-your-face yellow, this color has become the color of 2017 and it sure will stay for a long time. Yellow levels proceed to advance and develop inside the womens wear retail. Retailers should be aware of this color trend since mixing and matching diverse shades of the same hue create a different story to tell and I believe that is the aim of every client, to tell their own story. This trend is seen in runways like Delpozo and Creatures of Comfort creating impact in their category. Spotted not only in formal styles or relaxed sundresses but also in details like sleeves and accessories.
raw hem
A focus on this trend is critical since we’ve been hit by the Vetements effect, the raw edged and uneven hem style finally trickled down and inspired other high end labels and street fashion to give the consumer what they are longing for. From jeans to skirts and everything in between, distressed and shredded trims have been driving denim design to another level. Designs appear to be changing drastically over time with extreme tearing and cutout hemlines creating a fresh and new feeling.
Offering a simple upgrade to uncomplicated shapes, raw hems add versatility and design detail to this influential trend. As seen in Nili Lotan, Intermix, and Zara the demand for this style will only intensify over time and I trust it will stay for a long time.
80’s nostalgia
This 80’s trend is not a passing one, and the proof was all over the catwalks. Apparently, in 2017 we’ll all been wearing 1980’s inspired clothing and we haven’t even noticed. With ruffles, liquid metallics and heavy-metal graphics, this trend is what retailers are all about this season. Thanks to the craving and longingness for this amazing fashion era, consumers will want us to bring it back with a more dynamic and modern twist. Fashion loves to jump back and forth between decades. The amazing thing about this trend is that there’s so much to play with; from silhouette-enhancing waists fastened with giant belts to flirty hemlines balanced out by big shoulders. And let’s not forget the crystal earrings and sky-high stilettos that are key. Designers have packed different collections with 80’s details; highlighting Saint Laurent with dramatic shoulders followed by other designers showcasing power suits with Reagan-era details.
social statements
Fashion designers, brands, and retailers have found themselves swept into the political wildfire since the news of the election of the new U.S. president. The emotions that can’t be worn over the sleeve should be displayed on our t-shirts, jackets or whatever we can think of. Slogans promoting feminism, self-worth and encouragement are emerging in the fashion world to seek satisfaction and create a symbolic expression.
Fashion retailer’s current love of merch is seen in runways as well as in the streets. Starting from Dior’s “We Should All Be Feminists” to Haider Ackermann showing versions that read “Be Your Own Hero” this new way of saying what you mean with our clothes and telling our own stories. Just like Prabal Gurung with his taglines “I am an Immigrant,” “Break Down Walls,” and “Nevertheless, she persisted,” has been more direct than most designers have, or could since he himself is an immigrant he understands many problems and sufferings that others may not. They say an image is worth a thousand words, but words actually express specific statements.
