Police have stopped searching for missing teaching assistant Nathan Clarke. Detectives last night said they have exhausted both land and sea searches after “tens of thousands” of man hours.
The 31-year-old from Cheltenham in the South West of England vanished on February 25th after spending the afternoon with his partner Lisa Beck and friends. Despite huge efforts, the only clue to his whereabouts was his mobile telephone which was found in the water near Calico Jacks.

With wildly wagging tails, dogs of all shapes and sizes took their owners to the 21st Annual dog show at Camana Bay. While it’s a great chance for dogs to get together to catch up on the news, their owners seem to enjoy it too. The fun atmosphere and large number of categories (or is it “dogegories?”) means that every doggy has a good chance to bring home a 1st 2nd or 3rd place rosette to brighten up their owner’s day. Every year the show raises funds for the Humane Society by charging
owners a five-dollar entry fee for each category, or if the owner feels that they own a super-dog (and who doesn’t?) they can enter five categories for CI$25.00 Categories included Best Neutered Male and Female, First Time Entries, Junior Handlers, Puppies, Seniors, Best Rescued, Costume, Best Trick, Obstacle Course, Large Dogs, Small Dogs, Terriers, Toy Dogs, Sporting, Hounds, Working Dogs, Cross Breeds and Cayman Dogs. That meant there were prizes for just about every doggy - just one of the things that makes the dog show so much fun.

“Connecting Cultures “ was the theme for this year’s Commonwealth Day Service that was celebrated to a packed audience at St. George’s Anglican Episcopal Church on Courts Road, George Town. I use the word ‘audience’ and not ‘congregation’ as the people attending were representing all nations belonging to the Commonwealth. Even “The Lords Prayer” was spoken in Konkani – an Indo-Aryan language that is the official language of the Indian state of Goa. Officiating at the beautiful and moving service were The Ven. Archdeacon Hollis Peter Lynch Rector of St Georges, Rev. Mary Graham also from St George’s and Rev. Alson Ebanks, Cert. Hon and Senior Pastor of Church of God Chapel, who gave a very uplifting sermon. His message was of hope for the future due to the diverse global family that belongs to the Commonwealth. He mentioned youth and how important they are in God’s plan. The service started with the Commonwealth Flags MarchPast, the Colour Party presenting the flags of the Cayman Islands, the Union Jack and St. George. Miniature flags representing all the 54 member countries of the Commonwealth were placed on the altar in order of the date at which the countries joined the Commonwealth. The last country being Rwanda who joined in 2009. The contingents who took part in this presentation were Government

During the hymn “The Servant Song” a collection was taken up to benefit Miss Lassie Restoration Project as part of the work of the Cayman National Cultural Foundation. Representatives of the Girl Guides Association, Bodden Town Primary School, Cadet Corps, St Ignatius Prep and High School and the Girls Brigade said the Act of Affirmation to the Commonwealth. The final moment was The Return of Colours and the Scout Band played “Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory” to a stirring beat of drums that rang through the church. A vast amount of refreshments was available in the church grounds with music provided by the UCCI Pandemix Steelband. If you weren’t there for this very moving and patriotic service you should have been. Come next year but make sure you arrive early to get a seat.

We don’t need more Dart

Organisers said the message came through clearly on Saturday as more than 100 demonstrators joined a loud, enthusiastic and colourful dozen-mile motorcade protesting closure of part of the West Bay Road. While estimates of the turnout varied between 60 cars and more than 100 cars, organisers declared the demonstration a popular success. “It was an exceedingly good turnout, more than we had expected. It was a great success,” said Capt Bryan Ebanks, head of the Save Cayman group, among the community organisations opposing the close of 4,300 feet of West Bay Road to make way for hotel development. “We’re very happy, and while it might have been more, this was very satisfying,” he said. While confusion initially reigned as protestors gathered at the George Town cricket pitch on Saturday afternoon, leaders ultimately created an orderly parade of honking cars, trucks and buses, adorned with red and white protest signs, as drivers and passengers acknowledged shouts of support from bystanders. Setting off at 3:00pm from the George Town cricket pitch, police led the motorcade along the 13-mile route, moving down Elgin Avenue past the George Town Police Station, turning left through the town centre past the George Town Post Office, the courthouse and Legislative Assembly, and then through the
Fort Street stoplight onto North Church Street. Turning onto Lawrence Boulevard, the motorcade looped through Camana Bay, then turned onto Seven Mile Beach by the Fidelity Bank building, and moved straight through to West Bay, traversing Town Hall Road to the playing fields. Circling past the West Bay Police Station on Church Street, the group re-entered West Bay Road at the four-way stop, travelling back to Public Beach, terminating at Calico Jack’s, where vehicles parked along the southbound shoulder. Crossing the street, hundreds of demonstrators lined the highway for at least an hour, spreading from the beachfront bar, past the old Marriott Courtyard Hotel, to Tiki Beach, showing placards and soliciting support from motorists. While observers counted between 55 cars and 60 cars, organisers said more had participated, many joining en route. “To me, it was over 100 cars,” Capt. Bryan Ebanks said. “Caymanians are getting more educated and more aware. We are gathering our forces, building up to a master meeting in the very near future,” he said. He declined to reveal plans by the three West Bay groups leading the road-closure protests, although they have previously discussed gathering at the Legislative Assembly. Organisers continue to wait for Premier McKeeva Bush to announce

a formal sitting of the legislature. Initially called for 3 March, the demonstration was postponed to accommodate two West Bay funerals, which Capt. Ebanks feared may have depressed the numbers. “We may not have done enough advertising, and we had to put it off from the week before, so there may have been some confusion. ”I think many others would have been there, but I think many joined us along the way. People were very impressed as we went through West Bay,” he said. The protest was the latest demonstration against proposals to close the road between Trafalgar Square and Yacht Drive, enabling the Dart-government ForCayman
Investment Alliance (FCIA) to rebuild the now-vacant Marriott Courtyard Hotel as a four-star beachfront property. “People do not want this relationship,” Capt. Ebanks told iNews Cayman yesterday, referring to the FCIA’s $1.5 billion, 30year programme of infrastructure and community development, fearing the economic and political influence the agreement will give Dart companies, owner of the Camana Bay residential-business development. “It’s gone too far, and it is an individual with a record of having his own interests here,” he said about company founder and owner Kenneth Dart. “We don’t need more Dart.”

Gabriella McField, was crowned Miss George Town 2012 at Mary Miller Hall. Despite describing herself as “shy,” 15-year old Gabriella, a student at John Gray High School managed to overcome her shyness, scoring high marks in every section of the show. Eight contestants took part including Gabriella: Raeven Gould, Kayla McField, Doralee Wright, Kayana Bustillo, Cindi Welcome, Chelsea Evans and Asha Hurlston. The show began with walkon presentation, followed by the Interview section where each of the contestants was asked their opinions on topical themes. Each of the girls had another chance to show off their talent during the ‘modelling section’. They were able to in project their personalities by modeling stunning casual-wear outfits that they had put together themselves. Asha Hurlston wore a blue sarong-skirt with a white swim suite top, and Doralee Wright looked cool and casual in a flowing leopard-skin pattern grey top with black pants. Kayla McField looked marvelous in a swim suite with a grey sarong and a white floppy hat. Kyana Bustillo was sophisticated and stylish in black Leggings and off the shoulder silver and black top, and Gabriella

McField wore a bright orange cotton mini-dress with white sneakers. Between each section, there was plenty of entertainment from some of the most talented stars around, including singers Oscar Calidonio, Lexie Ashley, and dancer LeBron McLean. During the Grace and Elegance section each of the contestants had the chance to wow the judges with their long, flowing evening gowns. After long deliberations, when the panel of judges were ask to choose a winner according to criteria such as personality, diction, charisma, posture, confidence and of course, grace and elegance too, the contestants reappeared onstage for the prizes. Apart from winning the title of Miss George Town 2012 and a wonderful prize of a perfume set and handbag, donated by Kirk Freeport, Gabriella McField also won Miss Photogenic and Best Smile. Kayla McField won First Runner Up, Raeven Gould won Second Runner Up, and Chelsea Evans was Third Runner Up. Asha Hurlston was won the prize for Best Personality, and the prize for Most Improved went to Doralee Wright. Former George Town MLA Lucille Seymour presented the trophies, and thanked organisers Dwight McLean and Pauline McField for all their hard work in putting the show together.

Jamaican drug lord faces sentencing in US case NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. authorities say Jamaican drug kingpin Christopher “Dudus” Coke was so ruthless that he once ordered a rival killed with a chainsaw. However, another episode left a more lasting impression with the general public: He was arrested wearing a curly black wig. A mug shot of Coke wearing the wig as a disguise while on the run went viral on the Internet after his capture in Jamaica during a bloody siege of his ghetto stronghold in 2010 that left more than 70 dead. At the time, he waived extradition to the United States and vowed to fight drug trafficking, gun smuggling, racketeering and other charges. But following a guilty plea last year, Coke faces up to 23 years in prison at sentencing this week in federal court in Manhattan. The 43-year-old Coke has sought mercy in a letter to the judge — seven handwritten pages that in tone are formal and polite but in substance barely touch upon a litany of accusations painting him as a cold-blooded killer. “Good day to you, sir,” he wrote. “I am humbly asking if you could be lenient on me.” Prosecutors have argued that leniency isn’t an option. They want Coke to serve the maximum term and be deported. Coke was a divisive figure in Jamaica, where he followed in the footsteps of his father, Lester Lloyd Coke, better known as Jim Brown, a leader of the notorious Shower Posse during the 1980s cocaine wars. Authorities say he took over the organisation when his father, also sought in the United States, died in a mysterious fire in a Jamaican prison cell in 1992. Once in power, Coke became a folk hero to some followers in the West Kingston slum of Tivoli Gardens. He listed his good deeds in his letter to the judge — throwing Easter parties for seniors, passing out school supplies and Christmas gifts to children and starting a school to teach computer skills to

the disadvantaged. “I implemented a lot of social programmes for the residents of my community — programmes that teach them about selfempowerment,” he wrote. The court has received other letters of support from Jamaica. One man described how “Dudus” started youth soccer leagues, paid medical bills for sick neighbours and even helped children with their homework. “Peace is the answer,” it says was his constant message. The altruism won Coke loyalty and political clout in Tivoli Gardens. But authorities allege his hold on power came at a severe cost that had repercussions in the United States. In court papers, federal prosecutors call Tivoli Gardens “a garrison community” patrolled by Coke’s young henchmen armed

with illegal weapons bought on the black market in the United States and smuggled into Jamaica. The enforcers’ job included guarding stash houses, punishing anyone who challenged Coke’s monopoly on the drug trade and using intimidation to influence elections, the papers said. Anyone who crossed Coke was detained and subjected to harsh punishments. One person accused of thievery “was brought to the ‘jail,’ tied down and killed by Coke with a chainsaw,” the court papers say. In the U.S., Coke controlled a network of large-scale drug dealers who would send him “tribute” payments of cash, electronics or guns, court papers say. On wiretaps, Coke “discussed with them the number and types of firearms they were sending and the methods of packaging,” the papers say.
The firearms “were crucial to Coke’s ability to maintain his power within, and control over the Tivoli Gardens area,” prosecutors wrote. Prosecutors also allege Coke relied on women to smuggle cocaine — concealed in condoms and inserted into their vaginas — into the United States on commercial flights to New York City or Miami. One woman who refused to do it was gang-raped and murdered, the court papers say. Several women abused by Coke’s gang in Jamaica have written to the sentencing judge asking him to give the defendant a harsh punishment. They’ve also insisted on anonymity. “I might be targeted for death by the Shower Posse if this letter is brought to the public record,” the woman wrote. “But this letter is my contribution to Jamaica and the Jamaicans for their future.”

The trip offered Harry, 27, a first step onto the international stage in a role that will become increasingly common as a younger generation of royals step to the fore. The official part of the trip, which also included a business-boosting visit to Brazil, ended Sunday with a charity polo match after which Harry gave an exuberant thumbs up after he was kissed on the cheek by a brunette model. English Catholics campaign against gay marriage LONDON (AP) — The Catholic Church in England intensified its campaign against government plans to legalise same-sex marriage Sunday, urging the faithful to protect the “true meaning” of matrimony for future generations. In a letter read in 2,500 parish churches across the country during Sunday Mass, the church’s senior archbishops argued that the proposed change would reduce the significance of marriage. “The law helps to shape and form social and cultural values. A change in the law would gradually and inevitably transform society’s understanding of the purpose of
marriage,” Archbishop Vincent Nichols (pictured) and Archbishop Peter Smith said in the letter. “There would be no recognition of the complementarity of male and female or that marriage is intended for the procreation and education of children,” they wrote. The archbishops ended the letter by calling on Catholics to fulfill their duty to make sure “the true meaning of marriage is not lost for future generations.” Britain’s government plans to allow everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation, to have the option of a civil marriage. Prime Minister David Cameron has openly
backed the plans, and the equalities minister will launch a consultation later this month on how to change the legal definition of marriage to include same-sex couples. Human rights activists said the Catholics’ opposition amounted to discrimination. “They want the law to discriminate against gay couples. Discrimination is not a Christian value,” said gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell. Currently only heterosexual couples are permitted to get married in Britain, while civil partnerships, introduced in 2005, are limited to same-sex couples.
US Army sergeant kills 16 in Afghan villages BALANDI, Afghanistan (AP) — Moving from house to house, a U.S. Army sergeant opened fire Sunday on Afghan villagers as they slept, killing 16 people — mostly women and children — in an attack that reignited fury at the U.S. presence following a wave of deadly protests over Americans burning Qurans. The attack threatened the deepest breach yet in U.S.-Afghan relations, raising questions both in Washington and Kabul about why American troops are still fighting in Afghanistan after 10 years of conflict and the killing of Osama bin Laden.
The slayings, the worst atrocity committed by U.S. forces during the Afghan war, came amid deepening public outrage spurred by last month’s Quran burnings and an earlier video purportedly showing American Marines urinating on dead Taliban militants. The Quran burnings sparked weeks of violent protests and attacks that left some 30 Afghans dead, despite an apology from President Barack Obama. Six U.S. service members were also killed by their fellow Afghan soldiers, although the tensions had just
started to calm down. According to U.S. and Afghan officials, Sunday’s attack began around 3 a.m. in two villages in Panjwai district, a rural region outside Kandahar that is the cradle of the Taliban and where coalition forces have fought for control for years. The villages are about 500 yards (meters) from a U.S. base in a region that was the focus of Obama’s military surge strategy in the south starting in 2009. Villagers described cowering in fear as gunshots rang out as a soldier roamed from house to house firing on those inside.
Whitney Houston’s daughter: ‘She’s always with me’ NEW YORK (AP) — In her first interview since Whitney Houston’s death, daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown said she’s “doing as good as I possibly can” and recalled the tender last moments she shared with her superstar mother before her sudden death last month. “She’s always with me,” said the 19-year-old, Houston’s only child and sole heir. “Her spirit is strong, it’s a strong spirit. I feel her pass through me all the time.” Brown made the comments in

Cayman’s unimportant event: Commonwealth Day 2012

I wrote an editorial last week about the importance of the Commonwealth and the ridiculous and uninformed reasoning by Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller, to remove her country from the present list of 54 Commonwealth countries. If judging by the turn-out by Government, our MLA’s and even the Governor’s office, at the Service in Observance of Commonwealth Day 2012, the Cayman Islands ‘officials’ have the same mentality as Portia Simpson Miller - “unimportant”. The turnout by our ‘officials’ was a big fat ZERO!! The reason given by Acting Governor Hon. Franz Manderson for not attending was a funeral in North Side. H.E. Governor Duncan Taylor was away and sent his apologies. An apology was given by the Speaker, Hon Mary Lawrence, as also did Deputy Premier Juliana O’Connor-Connolly. Premier

I am reliably informed all MLA’s were invited to attend but apart from those mentioned only one had the courtesy to reply whilst the rest, including the leader of the Opposition, Alden McLaughlin, ignored the invitation. The one MLA who replied and confirmed his attendance was the Minister of Health Mark Scotland. But he was a “no show”. I can only assume he, along with all the other MLA’s, were at the North Side funeral. The fact that the invitation to attend the Commonwealth Day Service was largely ignored is extremely bad manners. The fact that there was not one single representative from any of these persons who attended, deputising or otherwise is appalling! Only representatives from our ‘officials’ – the Judiciary – were present and I did not see anyone from the hierarchy of the RCIPS there. Perhaps the RCIPS have forgotten that the ‘R’ in their title is ‘Royal” and for ‘Royal’ it means HM The Queen who is head of
the Commonwealth. We hear so many negative comments about our Country’s youth but they were prominently on display at this Commonwealth Day Service held at St George’s Anglican Episcopal Church last Sunday (11) and they made me proud. From our schools, Scouts, Guides, Brigaders, and Cadet Corp these youngsters filled their roles with distinction. All the singing was done by our youth from the very young to teenagers. Both bands were comprised of our youth and what a superb and joyful sound they made. Our youth set an example and our so called “important” peers let them down and let HM The Queen down! They let our country down. They are so quick with their words, the verbal diarrhea that some are blessed with. Their barbed tongues that spit out venom at every chance they get so they can appear on the television and radio talk shows. These are the people whom our youth are supposed to look up to. But most of them cannot take a minute out
of their precious time to accept or offer regrets to a Commonwealth event let alone take two hours to actually attend it. Do any of them care about the Commonwealth and its meaning? Do they care that this was a showcase for our youth. Do they care they snubbed them and our Mother Country? I bet it didn’t even occur to them. And if they think these are the words of an Englishman who is a foreigner, then let one of them call the Publisher of iNews Cayman. Joan Watler Wilson whose ancestors the Boddens and the Watlers founded this country. She was present at the service and what does she think? She is furious but sadly is not surprised. How is that for damnation? Yes. We know we won’t win any friends with the ‘officials’, we won’t win friends with other members of this community but we stand by everything said in this Editorial. As Joan said in her Christmas message, “I love my family, I love my Country, but I love you all. I am Joan”.

Mexico police nearly nabbed El Chapo MEXICO CITY (AP) — Much like the late Osama bin Laden, the man the U.S. calls the world’s most powerful drug lord apparently has been hiding in plain sight. Mexican federal police nearly nabbed Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán in a coastal mansion in Los Cabos three weeks ago, barely a day after U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with dozens of other foreign ministers in the same southern Baja peninsula resort town. José Cuitláhuac Salinas, Mexico’s assistant attorney general in charge of organized crime investigations, confirmed on Sunday that there was a near miss in late February in the government’s efforts to arrest the man who has become one of the world’s top fugitives since he escaped prison in a laundry truck in 2001. “We know he was there,” Salinas told The Associated Press. The incident fuels growing speculation that authorities are closing in on Guzmán, and that the government of President Felipe Calderón is determined to grab him before his six-year term ends in December. Calderón can’t be re-elected, and his National Action Party is trailing in the polls ahead of the July 1 presidential vote. Many Mexicans say they are weary of his government’s assault on organised crime that has left more than 47,000 dead and Guzmán stronger than ever. The arrest of the top capo likely would be a political boon to the ruling party. Two men and two women in the house where Guzmán allegedly had been staying were detained and are in the custody of the attorney general’s organised crime unit, Salinas said. He did not release their names but said at least one of the men served as a pilot for Guzmán. Federal police also found arms in the house, Salinas said, but he did not offer details. The raid was led by Mexican authorities. Salinas would
not say if the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration had any involvement. The DEA referred all comment to the Mexican government. Since his prison escape, Guzmán, 54, has transformed himself from a middling Mexican capo into what the U.S. Treasury Department calls the world’s most powerful drug trafficker. Calderón’s government says it doesn’t rank the 15 cartel leaders on its most-wanted list, but Guzmán’s Sinaloa cartel controls trafficking in nearly half of Mexico. Much of the rest of the country is in the hands of the Zetas cartel. U.S. law enforcement officials say no other cartel has the international cocaine distribution networks of Sinaloa, which is also making a major push into methamphetamines in Mexico and Central America. Guzmán appears annually on the Forbes magazine list of the world’s billionaires, and also has been named by the magazine as one of the world’s most powerful people. He has a $7 million bounty on his head in Mexico and the U.S., and teams of law enforcement agents from both countries are devoted to his capture. Guzmán is often rumoured to be hiding in the remote hills of his home state of Sinaloa, or in other locations, including Argentina for a time. Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina said he has reports that Guzmán has been in his country recently as well. One U.S. diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks quoted Mexican Defense Secretary, Gen. Guillermo Galván Galván, as saying that Guzmán moves frequently among 10 to 15 locations to avoid arrest, and has a security detail of up to 300 men. Salinas said he didn’t know if this time Guzmán was in the house with only four other people and lacked the expected entourage of bodyguards and surveillance equipment, which reportedly

normally includes helicopters. He would not give details of how the operation was carried out or what the four may have told authorities. “That’s classified information,” he said. Rumours also surface regularly that police have shown up in various hideouts just as Guzmán is escaping out the back door. Law enforcement and military have said they were close before, including raiding a remote Sinaloa town where Guzmán got married in 2007 hours after the wedding. His narrow escapes raise the suspicion that he could be getting tipped off, including this time. A series of bus burnings and ‘narco’ road blocks in Guadalajara on Friday fueled new talk that authorities had captured Guzmán. The commotion instead was related to the arrest of a leader of a smaller cartel, the New Generation, believed to be aligned with Guzmán. “We’re still searching,” Salinas said. When asked if authorities are close, he just smiled. Salinas wouldn’t say when federal police received the intelligence that Guzmán was in one of several exclusive subdivisions of milliondollar homes between the Cabo San Lucas Highway and the beach. The operation ran several days starting on Feb. 21, just as the city had been filled with top security and foreign ministers meeting in advance of the June G20 countries, which will also be held in Los Cabos. Salinas said he did not know the exact location of the house where the operation took place. But municipal police commander Alfonso Meza said it is located in the exclusive Punta Ballena development overlooking the Gulf of California. The home is still sealed off by the attorney general’s office and the organized crime division, he said. The Calderón administration has long been accused of protecting Guzmán as it carried out major hits on his enemies, dismantling the rival Arellano Felix and Beltrán

Leyva cartels and taking out top leaders of the Gulf Cartel. But more recently, the Calderón government has come up with major hits on Sinaloa. In the last six months, it has netted Guzmán’s major methamphetamine manufacturer, a major cocaine shipper and Guzmán’s security chief, seizing computer files and other valuable data. Los Cabos, at the tip of Baja peninsula, is considered one of the safest locations in Mexico, a favorite vacation spot among Hollywood stars and thousands of U.S. tourists who still venture to Mexican beaches despite the violence that plagues much of the country. But the peninsula also has been frequented by drug lords. Federal police arrested one of Mexico’s most violent drug traffickers, Teodoro García Simental, known as “El Teo,” two years ago in the home he owned in La Paz, north of Los Cabos. The U.S. Coast Guard in 2006 arrested Francisco Javier Arellano Félix, head of the Tijuana-based Arellano Félix gang, as he was sport fishing off the coast of Los Cabos. Osama bin Laden, the United States’ most wanted man for the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, was killed by commandos last May in his compound an upscale suburb of Islamabad, Pakistan. Like Guzmán, many had speculated he was hiding out in rugged mountains. Instead, he was found a short distance from the country’s main military academy.

Canadian wanted for 22 murders nabbed in Panama PANAMA CITY (AP) — Police in Panama say they have captured a fugitive with suspected ties to the Hells Angels motorcycle gang who is wanted in Canada for 22 murders. A police statement says Michel Smith was detained Friday in the Playa Coronado tourist region, 62 miles (100 kilometers) west of Panama City. The statement released Sunday said Smith was captured after a two-month surveillance operation, adding that he is wanted in Canada on 29 charges, including 22 counts of murder. Canadian officers have been looking for Smith, also known by

the name “L’animal” and Michael Lajoie-Smith among other aliases, since a massive 2009 gang sweep in the province of Quebec. Panama are coordinating his extradition to Canada, according to a police statement. Smith was alleged to be one of the senior figures in the Hells Angels gang, at a time the group was said to have killed off rival gang the Rock Machine Bikers in the 1990s and early 2000. Panamanian police say they are coordinating his extradition to Canada. The statement put Smith’s age at 50, while media in Canada say it is 49.

How to pass examinations without being an A plus student

This is the second part of my article on collected tips and tricks to help you pass a school or university exam. They are called exam techniques and they helped me and they can help you. Part B) The Last 24 Hours 7) Don’t be tired. If you have to stay up all night to do last minute revision, you’ve already failed. It doesn’t work – you end up so tired in the exam you can’t work anything out. It might work for the first one or two exams in a year, but you won’t be able to keep it up throughout a whole series of exams. 8) Eat protein before long exams – not carbohydrates. An exam is just as much a physical exercise as a race. Well, OK, perhaps not quite as much, but you can’t ignore your body if you want your brain to work at its best. Stuffing it full of sugar, or some Red-Bull type drink just before will work fine for the first hour or so, but by the end of a three-hour exam you’ll have completely run out of energy. You need some food that will slowly release energy. Try

Levitation is a big part of many of the famous magicians like Criss Angel and David Blaine. They have fascinated crowds all over the globe by floating off the ground, seemingly without any supporting device, special equipment or wires. So how is this done? This form of levitation involves standing in front of a prop, like a metal box, chair, or staircase with your back to the audience. The magician stands approximately one foot from the prop, in this case a metal box. He places his feet

What you can do is cram some facts into short-term memory. This is the time to go through the notes looking at those “key points” sections. If you haven’t already done it as part of your revision (and you should have done it), write out a sheet with just the key facts. See
how many you can remember. Then write out another sheet with just the ones you forgot. See how many you remember now. Continue until you’ve either remembered it all, or run out of time. Also, read through your worked solutions for the last three year’s papers. Then, get a good night’s sleep, or go for a walk and get some fresh air into your lungs. 10) Exercise - get the blood pumping round.

Now while talking to his audience he uses misdirection with his right hand while his left hand opens a panel on his pants that allows his right leg to come out. This is the gimmick, the right shoe is attached to the pants so when his leg is out of the shoe, the shoe will hang. The critical point is removing the right leg from the slit in the pants. The magician again misdirects as he doesn’t want spectators concentrating on his legs. This is the most difficult part of the trick, actually getting the leg out and firmly planted on the box. Engaging the spectators with speech and hand movements allows the
magician the split second needed to accomplish this. Just before he rises from the ground the magician arches his back looking up, extends his arms outwards and takes deep breaths. This wraps the spectators in anticipation and allows the magician the time to balance himself. He floats up. His arms outstretched, his eyes gazing upwards. His legs remain straight, heels together, floating two feet off the ground. From this point he can float to the top of the box or float back down. If he floats to the top his foot is placed on top of the right shoe. The exposed leg is then slipped back into the pants and shoe.

Alcohol Rehabilitation Centres

Alcohol addiction is a serious disease. Not only can it tear a family apart and lead to financial ruin, it can also lead to the premature death of the alcoholic. Therefore, it is vital for a person suffering from this disease to find help immediately. Without help, it is nearly impossible for a person with an alcohol addiction to recover and return to a normal, healthy life. An alcohol rehab centre is the best source for a person looking for assistance with addiction recovery. There are two forms of help a person with an alcohol addiction can receive from a rehab centre: inpatient and outpatient. With inpatient treatment, the patient remains on the premises of the alcohol rehab centre. Outpatient treatment, on the other hand, permits the individual to continue with his or her regular life while still reporting to the rehab centre for assistance and guidance. The majority of alcohol rehab centres offer both forms of treatment. Regardless of the type of programme the person with an alcohol addiction follows, the basics of alcohol rehab remain the same. In all cases, the addiction and other difficulties the patient faces are kept confidential. In addition, the rehab centre will also include five primary components: a medical evaluation, a psychological evaluation, therapy, detox, and extended care. The medical evaluation conducted by the alcohol rehab centre is meant to help the staff identify any physical problems the person with an alcohol addiction may have. Often, these physical problems are actually caused by the alcohol addiction. Problems with the liver, for example, may have developed as a result of the addiction. After medical problems have been identified, the staff of the rehab centre can work toward making the patient physically healthy once more. Improving the patient’s physical
health is an important component of addiction recovery. This is because it takes a holistic approach to get an addict back on the road toward recovery. This includes taking care of the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional health. Without this three-pronged approach, the patient is more likely to fail in the process of addiction recovery. The psychological evaluation also provides the staff of the rehab centre with volumes of important information about the patient. The psychological evaluation helps the team better understand the patient. In addition, the team of specialists can determine whether the person suffering from alcohol addiction is also struggling from certain psychological problems. For example, it is common for a person suffering from alcohol addiction to also suffer from depression. If this is the case, the programme developed to assist the patient will also include a plan to address this issue. Generally, an alcohol rehab centre will provide both group and individual therapy to its patients. The group therapy is designed to give the person with an alcohol addiction support from others who are

experiencing the same difficulties. Being able to share in the struggles with those who can truly understand often makes the process easier for a patient to deal with. Nonetheless, individual counselling is also critical to addiction recovery. Having the opportunity to work one-onone with a counselor helps the patient work through his or her own individual conflicts. Through individual therapy, the patient can come to terms with his or her addiction and work through ways to resolve it by setting individual goals. In addition the medical and physical evaluations, patients of alcohol rehab centres generally undergo a 24-hour medically supervised detoxification and withdrawal period. During this period, the patient is forced to go without alcohol. For many patients coping with alcohol addiction, this may be the longest time they have gone without alcohol in many years. The detoxification period is difficult for the person suffering from alcohol addiction because it is accompanied by extreme withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms take their toll on the
patient both physically and mentally. For this reason, an alcohol rehab center also provides close patient monitoring and assistance during this period. Extended care, which is also sometimes referred to as aftercare, is vital to the success of addiction recovery. Through an extended care program, the patient continues to receive support and assistance from the alcohol rehab center after being released from the more intensive alcohol rehab program. Extended care programmes are designed to help monitor the patient’s success in alcohol addiction recovery. To do this appropriately, the programme staff watch over the patient to be sure he or she is utilizing the new skills gained during rehab. For instance, the extended care specialist may work with the patient to be sure he or she is staying away from specific crowds of people that encourage drinking. Or, the extended care specialist may check to be sure the patient is utilizing appropriate resistance skills. Without a strong extended care programme, it is easy for the patient to fall back into the cycle of abuse.

Rose emerges a winner on a wild day DORAL, Fla. (AP) — Even after the biggest win of a career that is starting to fill up with significant titles, Justin Rose had to share the stage with two stars who appear headed in opposite directions. Rory McIlroy took another leap forward by nearly pulling off a remarkable rally. Tiger Woods took a disturbing step back when a sore left Achilles tendon became too painful for him to continue. He withdrew from the final round Sunday at the Cadillac Championship, the second time in 10 months that he couldn’t finish a tournament because of his Achilles. With the Masters just three weeks away, Woods’ future looked muddled as ever when he limped

through the parking lot to a black sedan and drove away from Doral, not knowing the severity of this latest injury. “Left leg injury,” was all he told a press officer as he drove away. In a statement he issued about an hour later, Woods said, “I felt tightness in my left Achilles warming up this morning, and it continued to get progressively worse. After hitting my tee shot at 12, I decided it was necessary to withdraw. In the past, I may have tried to continue to play, but this time, I decided to do what I thought was necessary.” Rose was oblivious to all this. He started the final day three shots behind Bubba Watson. He went to the back nine two shots behind PGA
champion Keegan Bradley. When he scrambled for bogey on the final hole of the Blue Monster to stay one shot ahead, Rose thought he had won the tournament upon hearing someone in the crowd say that Watson had hit into the water. Instead, he had to wait for Watson to hit a bullet 4-iron out of the palm trees, over a corner of the water and onto the green to just inside 10 feet for a chance at birdie to force a playoff. As wild as this day turned out to be, Rose left nothing to chance. He went over to the practice range to stay loose, and only when he heard nothing — no cheers for a birdie putt — did he realise that Watson had missed the putt and
Rose had captured his first World Golf Championship title. “These moments are incredibly sweet,” Rose said. Rose figured he would need a score much lower than 2-under 70 to have any chance of winning at Doral, especially after spending the first three days with Watson. “That’s the way I saw the day playing out,” he said. Not many could have seen a Sunday script quite like this.

As a beneficiary of Government’s Nation Building Fund, professional squash player Cameron Stafford looks forward to advancing his skills by training and participating in ten tournaments back to back in Australia. His goal: to win consistently and raise his world rankings, so he can graduate to the big, prestigious tournaments. His ultimate goal: to be world number one. His application now: one hundred percent of his energies, talents and concentration to squash. Starting at 408, his world ranking has already spurted to 239 in five months. Premier the Hon. One has only to see Cameron play or even speak about squash to recognise his potential and dedication to his game,” he noted. The Premier added, “Squash is a demanding sport, requiring peak physical fitness. I wish Cameron the very best in his efforts to consolidate his ranking, technique and skills in the coming months.”

Accepting the US$ 11,500 grant gratefully, the 2011 Caribbean under-19 squash champion and Island Games silver and bronze medallist said he looks forward to making his country proud by maintaining momentum and persistence in improving his game. His prior victories include two Caribbean junior champion trophies, then the regional under-17 gold as well as helping the Cayman boys’ team garner the team gold. He says he now hopes to improve his game, so he can qualify to play in the New York tournament which he considers one of the best in the world. His anticipates his participation there will be all the more sweet since the Cayman Islands is one of the silver sponsors of the tournament. Cameron Stafford: A Rising Star
An athletic student from his earliest school days, Caymanian Cameron Stafford tried his hand at cricket, football, baseball, sailing and tennis before finding his niche with squash. Since he turned 13, Cameron has dedicated sizeable portions of his day to playing, viewing and learning about squash. Serious about his career choice, Cameron credits his success so far to his dad John Michael Stafford, originally from Guyana and a former Olympian in sailing, his Caymanian mom Janie and his ex-coach Dean Watson, who at one time was ranked
81st, worldwide, as a squash player. The Cayman Islands Squash Club was a second home to this dedicated young man. While he worked on his game, Cameron attended a number of world tournaments, again thanks to his parents, and witnessed firsthand how the pro-tour works before deciding to join it. “I thought long and hard about going pro and am totally grateful that my parents backed me all the way,” he revealed. His local coach found him another coach in Amsterdam, a city he considers one of the best places to train in squash. Then it was off to Amsterdam for three months to better understand the intricacies of the pro-tour. Advantage United in title race Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini says the Premier League title will be decided when his side face Manchester United with three games to go. Mancini’s side lost top spot to United following their shock defeat to Swansea and trail their neighbours by a point. But City host United at Etihad Stadium on 30 April and Mancini believes that game will prove to be the decider. “Today was not critical. I think this championship will be decided with three games to go,” Mancini told BBC Sport. While City were being beaten 1-0 by Swansea on Sunday, United leapfrogged above them thanks to a 2-0 victory against West Bromwich Albion, but Mancini says he is unconcerned about losing top spot now with only 10 games to go. The Italian also says he is confident that City can still win their first title in 44 years. “We should fight against them until the end,” added Mancini. “We have another 10 games to finish this championship. “The season is long and every week the situation could change. “Now it is important we are very comfortable together. It is better to stay at the top but, now we are behind, it doesn’t change our target. “I’m still confident about winning the Premier League. We were top for months but it just so happens that we are second with 10 games to play. It is important that we are there around the top. “We know United have gone top, like we were, but now we should be more strong and it is a test for our players. It has been a difficult last four days for me but football is like this. “The season is long and what happened today can happen also to United.” Mancini believes his side deserved something out of Sunday’s game, adding: “We missed three or four chances on the counter attack. “This is the problem at the moment and we conceded a stupid
goal. I don’t think we deserved to lose this game. Swansea played well in the first 30 minutes but in the second half we had control of the game.” The City boss also dismissed suggestions of a rift with England midfielder Gareth Barry, who exchanged angry words with assistant manager David Platt as he left the field after being replaced. “Gareth has had a problem for three weeks,” said Mancini. “Gareth has a problem, I don’t know where. It is a small injury. “They had a lot of possession in the opening 30 minutes and we needed another striker to press high, not because Barry played badly. The Harbour House 12 Mile Banks and Back race was organised by the Cayman Islands Sailing Club on Saturday February 25th 2012 and the cruisers took advantage of good winds. Perfect conditions blessed the first cruisers race of the year which was sponsored by Harbour House Marina. Only five boats made it to the starting line with some last minute withdrawals due to missing crew or unready boats. When going offshore it is highly recommended that boats are adequately prepared and amply crewed. The course was roughly 50 miles long and the first boat across the line, Java Knight, finished in just

under four and a half hours. The next three boats all finished within 40 minutes of each other. The winner on corrected time was Pie Seas 3, skippered by Jonathan Cuff, his first podium position with his new boat. Mr Cuff said, “My boat Jonathan Cuff takes the trophy was better prepared than in the withdraw as they only had two on past and I had some knowledgeable board but at least they kept their crew on board which made a mast intact this year. The competitors expressed their difference”. It’s always been fun to take part in Cruiser races but it’s thanks to Peta Adams, Mary Caley and Terrie Farrington for doing even better to get a trophy”.
