Jon Murphy, the UK’s top police expert on gangland activities, arrives on Monday morning, and will meet Police Commissioner David Baines to hammer out a plan of action for the next six weeks “I am coming with two colleagues, and we will sit down with David Baines, and be followed by a team of 15 or 16 detectives,” Mr Murphy told iNews in an exclusive interview yesterday. Mr Murphy insisted his officers will not be treating the trip as “a jolly” “We want to have some very tight terms of reference, gaining a clear idea of what local police require from the Merseyside force,” he said. “My role will be two-fold. To get a proper understanding with David Baines, agreeing what we’ll do and what he needs. The other thing is that my officers will be going into potentially hostile areas, and I will need assurances and protection for them.” Continued on page 5

Insane laughter and indescribable theatrics are always in the package when the hilarious Jamaican actor, Keith “Shebada” Ramsey, comes to Cayman. The tears of hilarity at the actor’s performances have spread from Jamaica to around the globe, including the US, Britain and Canada. Mr. Ramsey, who was issued with a certificate of gratitude from the State of Massachusetts, says despite the fame he is enjoying, his commitment to making people laugh is worth more than just money. “I try to take people’s bad situations and make them laugh at it. If a situation is powerful enough to make you sad, then likewise, it should also have the power to make you laugh.” said Shebada The hilarious and unconventional entertainer will be performing at the Lion’s Center this Sunday in a roots play entitled, Ghett Out. During his exclusive interview with iNews, Mr. Ramsey gave a sneak preview of the highly anticipated roots play. Mr. Ramsey said: “Ghett Out takes you back to the real Jamaican living. The play includes all the hardships and struggles that ghetto people go through to make ends meet. It depicts how people in the ghetto survive on a daily basis.” to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

“Ghett Out also shows how women survive without a husband or spouse. Maud, a character in the play, is an uptown woman who has to struggle to adjust to the downtown Ghetto life, after hard times hit her. “I am in the play as a hairdresser. I do my hustling as a hairdresser inside the yard.” said Mr. Ramsey The character, Shebada, is an authentic Caribbean equivalent of America’s, “Madea,” created and played by American theatre icon, actor, and producer, Tyler Perry. In his assessment of his success as an actor and entertainer, Shebada says he is truly grateful and he is thankful to both the people that love and hate him for his talent. “My acting talent is a blessing that comes with a responsibility. have been lucky enough to go to the United States, England and Canada. “I was given a certificate of appreciation in Boston Massachusetts for the entertainment that I took to the city. “When you pray and ask God for something you must be willing to give up something. “People say a lot of bad things about me but anything they say I look at it and just laugh.” said Mr. Ramsey. Despite his association with conflict and sensationalism, Shebada’s peers deem him as the key to a cohesive community and are reluctant to shun him. Mr. Ramsey takes seriously his unofficial responsibility to interpret the struggles of “Ghetto Living.”

iStrange NEWS Mass. cat with 2 faces lives 12 years, sets record WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Frank and Louie the cat was born with two faces, two mouths, two noses, three eyes — and lots of doubts about his future. Now, 12 years after Marty Stevens rescued him from being put to sleep because of his condition, the exotic blue-eyed rag doll cat is not only thriving but has made it into the 2012 Guinness Book of World Records as the longest surviving member of a group known as Janus cats, named for a Roman god with two faces.

Janus cats almost never survive, and most have numerous congenital defects, including a cleft palate that makes it difficult for them to nurse and often causes them to slowly starve to death or aspirate milk into their lungs and die of pneumonia. The condition is the result of a genetic defect that triggers excessive production of a certain kind of protein. But Frank and Louie did not suffer from most of the common Janus problems. Stevens used feeding tubes to nourish him for three months, hoping that would also save him from the danger of choking on food going down the esophagus from two mouths. It turned out she didn’t have to worry about him choking, because Frank and Louie just used one of his mouths to eat.

Liverpool Football Club. Mr Murphy says sport is a great way to bring youngsters together.

Tad Stoner tad.stoner@ieyenews.com

Earlier this week, in the wake of a nineday spate of five gang-related murders, mostly in West Bay, Commissioner Baines sought aid from Mr Murphy, Chief Constable in Merseyside. He also heads the “crime business area” under the nationwide Association of Chief Police Officers, which aggregates top authorities across the UK in a series of specialities. The “crime business area” includes 11 different categories, including serious and organised crime, intelligence, drugs, violence and public protection, which itself focuses on domestic violence, guns and gangs. Mr Murphy moved immediately to dispel fears that his 20-strong group might repeat the hotly criticised experience of 2007-2009’s Operation Tempura, headed by Senior Investigating Officer Martin Bridger of London’s Metropolitan Police. Mr Bridger and his team spent nearly $10 million, lodging only four modest charges against Deputy Police Commissioner Rudolf Dixon, who was quickly acquitted on all counts. Tempura ended when a judicial review quashed Mr Bridger’s arrest of Grand Court Justice Alexander Henderson on charges of misconduct. Justice Henderson subsequently won $1.27 million in compensation. “I won’t comment on what past police operations may or may not have done,” Mr Murphy said, “but this absolutely to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

will not be a ‘jolly’. I want terms of reference from the commissioner. My officers are professionals, experienced and trained, and the last thing I want is an open-ended commitment. “This is not a blank cheque. This is not open ended, and I want my men back on the job here because we have our own problems,” Mr Murphy said. “The investigation team is competent, and while you have some very competent people in Cayman, [Merseyside] has very significant experience, preparation and training,” he said. The Liverpool team, he said, worked with a range of social services, recognised that, while they provided an immediate law-enforcement solution, only a long-range plan addressed the problem. “Everybody needs to recognise that gangs are a problem in every city. Enforcement is important, and we will provide that, but long-term needs are for other resources. “All our experience tells us that unless other social services are involved”, success would be limited, he said. “You need basic long-term services as well as investigative and forensic personnel. In Merseyside,” he continued, ”we work with the Department of Education, with social services and other social professionals. We have 7,000 people involved. I have 65 officers involved full time just with the schools, working with kids.” Local football clubs, including

Premier League Liverpool FC and Everton FC, offered training and police-supported coaching. “Sports is always a great way to being kids together and diversify activities,” he said, pointing to New York City’s “midnight basketball” programme that reduced crime. The only way to achieve a long-term success against gang violence, he said, is “if everybody is willing.” Police, especially, “recognise a broad response is necessary and that we need to be socially adept.” The team’s six-week visit, Mr Murphy said, could be extended, but not easily. “That is something that will be open to negotiations,” Mr Murphy said, suggesting that a small number of officers could remain if required. “We don’t want to leave the Cayman Islands in difficulties, but I need my people back on the job here.”

Zynga declined to give financial terms of the deal or say whether it plans more celebrity integrations, citing the fact that it is in a typical “quiet period” before its planned initial public offering. The San Francisco-based company filed registration papers in July for an IPO, and it’s expected to make its public debut this fall. Iglesias said his team approached Zynga with the idea for a game integration and was involved from the beginning on the design and deciding what characters could do. Decade long permit for senior execs

Cayman Immigration Office and Premier McKeeva Bush (inset)

Tad Stoner tad.stoner@ieyenews.com

A new 10-year work permit will be offered to senior managers and highprofile companies in the Cayman Islands as part of the reform of immigration laws, according to Premier McKeeva Bush. Speaking to an overflowing Westin Hotel ballroom at a Chamber of Commerce-sponsored luncheon, Mr Bush on Wednesday said he would seek approval for the change in the Legislative Assembly today as part of efforts to revitalise Cayman’s lagging economy. “We need certainty,” he said, describing the reluctance of investors and employees to take a position in the Cayman Islands under a nebulous work-permit regime. “We want to encourage new businesses and others who have left, to return to these shores,” Mr Bush said. “We must move now and encourage other businesses to move, but they won’t if there is uncertainty. What manager is going to move his family and put his children in school with that? We cannot ask them to do that. “So what we need is certainty. We already have the best expertise in business, in accounting, in the legal profession. All we have to do is get rid of the uncertainty. to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

“So we are proposing a work permit of up to 10 years for senior managers in high-profile businesses. We will go to the LA with this on Friday, and I think it will be welcomed by all concerned,” he said, answered by spontaneous applause throughout the room. “But,” Mr Bush said, indicating reciprocal expectations from the business community, “they will of course respond by making contributions to social programmes, building training initiatives,” creating employment opportunities for Caymanian staff and promoting Caymanian leadership. The new permit, he said, would be implemented “by directives to the [Work Permit] board and the Immigration Department”, and would form part of Business Staff Planning Board reviews. While he did not detail costs for the decade-long visas, he said the revenues would go toward training initiatives, possibly helping fund apprenticeship and work-experience schemes recently proposed by Minister for Education Rolston Anglin. “We believe this is the right thing to do,” Mr Bush said, “and I look forward to input from the Chamber of Commerce and the private sector.” More generally, Mr Bush described pending reforms to both the seven-year

”rollover”, and broader immigration laws as “critical to the well being of the country”. Created in 2003, he said, workpermit laws had “created a system of progressive rights from permanent residence to citizenship and even to Caymanian status. “It also ensured that our Caymanian people were being mentored and trained,” he said, neglecting, however, claims last week by Mr Anglin at a West Bay public meeting that the rollover was a “population-control policy, never designed to create jobs for Caymanians.” The business community, Mr Bush told the audience, had complained that term limits made it difficult to retain skilled workers. “This caused redundancies amongst Caymanians. When we lost a business, we lost people and Caymanians lost jobs and lost mentoring. We need to look carefully at this.” Cayman’s $43,000 per capita income, amongst the highest in the world, was unlikely to be sustained as skilled professionals left, Mr Bush said. “This is a fact, and this country cannot afford to lose them. It would be irresponsible to leave in place the current policy. I cannot see our economy turned upside down and do nothing.”

Ophelia strengthens while Philippe changes course Jessica Willis jessica.willis@ieyenews.com

Tropical Storm Ophelia continued to strengthen yesterday (29). This strengthening will continue through today, culminating in Ophelia becoming a Category 1 Hurricane. Ophelia is expected to still strengthen through tomorrow (1 Oct) and weaken as Sunday (2) approaches. This weakening will be the result of Ophelia tracking over cooler waters and increasing wind shear. Rob Lightbown writes, “Ophelia is currently tracking north-northwest at a forward speed of 7 mph and the storm should track in a general north to north-northwest motion right up to about Saturday and then turn to the north-northeast and speed up in forward speed by Sunday and Monday. Ophelia is expected to track east of Bermuda and is expected to impact eastern Newfoundland by Sunday night.”

Yesterday it was reported the Philippe showed no sign of change. However, since then Philippe has change course and is now headed to the west-northwest. Philippe is also expected to strengthen over the next few days although it is not expected to strengthen any more than Tropical Storm status. Rob Lightbown writes, “Philippe is expected to track in a general westward direction over the next several days as the storm becomes caught underneath a ridge of high

pressure. Even though Philippe may be a very weak storm by Tuesday and Wednesday, it may be located further west than where Ophelia is currently located. At this time, Philippe poses no threat to any land masses.” Go to Crown Weather Services at www.crownweather.com or to the National Hurricane Centre at www. nhc.noaa.gov for more information on both of these systems. iNews wishes to thank Crown Weather for their permission to use their graphics and information. Ex-Ukraine PM maintains innocence in court speech “lynching” her to get rid of a tough political opponent. “The president of Ukraine considers me a dangerous political opponent — and rightly so,” Tymoshenko said. “I will devote my life to making sure that Ukraine becomes free.” Clad in an elegant coffee-withcream dress and jacket, her blond hair wrapped around her head in a trademark braid, she said it was pointless to address the judge, because Yanukovych has already written a guilty verdict. Tymoshenko, 50, has been charged with exceeding her authority during

the signing of a natural gas import contract with Russia in 2009. Prosecutors claim that Tymoshenko had not been officially authorised to approve the deal and believe the price she agreed to was too high.

David Beckham delighted with new daughter BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — David Beckham says his new baby girl is nothing like his three sons. The 36-year-old soccer star says 3-month old Harper Seven is already sleeping through the night and is “a lot calmer” than his boys were at that age. Besides baby Harper, Beckham and wife Victoria are parents to sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz. Harper’s three brothers are also on dad’s side when it comes to her eventual dating life. Beckham says he plans to be “overprotective in every way possible” and his sons will be “exactly the same.” He says his boys

will take her to and from her dates, and he will answer the door when she gets home. He talked about Harper while promoting his new fragrance, Homme by David Beckham, recently in Beverly Hills. David added: “The boys never slept when they were babies. Harper is totally different. She sleeps from like 11 o’clock at night ‘till 7:30 in the morning. Which is at three-monthsold, is kind of amazing. So, we are very lucky,” smiled Beckham. “She is very feminine in every way. I’ve never had that before. I’ve never seen that before. So, everything she

does, it kind of amazes me. Every time she moves or she makes a noise, it’s amazing having a little girl.”

Loughner can be made mentally fit for trial TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — The man accused of wounding Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in a deadly shooting rampage can eventually be made mentally fit to stand trial, a federal judge ruled Wednesday in ordering that Jared Lee Loughner’s detention be extended for four more months. U.S. District Judge Larry Burns said “measurable progress has been made” in restoring Loughner to the point where he could assist in his defense. Loughner has been at a prison facility in Missouri the last four months after Burns found him mentally unfit for trial. Experts have concluded Loughner to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

suffers from schizophrenia, and prosecutors contend Loughner can be made competent with more mental health treatment. But Loughner’s attorneys argue prosecutors have failed to prove that it’s probable his condition will improve enough. Loughner listened intently and quietly at Wednesday’s hearing. Burns noted the suspect’s smirk was gone and that for once he’s paying attention to the proceedings. “There’s reason to be optimistic he will recover and be able to assist in his case,” he said. Loughner has pleaded not guilty to 49 charges stemming from the Jan. 8

shooting that killed six and wounded 13, including Giffords. Loughner is still delusional but has made strides during the past four months at the Springfield, Mo., facility, Dr. Christina Pietz said.

Why we need more Stormin’ Normans Joan Wilson

Maybe sometimes the old fashioned ideas are still the best. Tried and tested methods are, as the name suggests, tried and tested. For as long as I can remember in all corners of the globe boxing has been seen as the ideal way to install discipline in what might be unruly youngsters on the verge of heading down the wrong path. Boxing gives them a purpose, goals in life, and obviously an avenue to vent any frustrations they may have on the punch bags that swing from the ceiling. In gyms all around the world coaches don’t just coach The Queensbury Rules to the youngsters that come through their doors. The roots of their responsibilities lie much deeper. They become surrogate fathers, brothers, social workers and, of course, boxing coaches. Take Norman Wilson for example. He is a man who commands respect. It’s at the Dalmain Ebanks Boxing Gym where Norman, or Stormin’ Norman as he’s not so affectionately known, has plied his trade for many years. His undoubted talent as a boxing coach is not questioned. Charles Whittaker is testimony to that. But outside the ring his talents maybe go a little unrecognised. joan.wilson@ieyenews.com

iNotices

I certainly wouldn’t fancy going 12, or even one, round with The Killa but the times I’ve met him he has come across as a charming, respectful and thoroughly decent man. And this week two more of Norman’s pugilistic prodigies are flying the flag for Cayman in Azerbaijan at the World Boxing Championships. Dariel Ebanks won his opening fight on a points decision and Kendall Ebanks steps into the ring tomorrow (1st) for his first bout. iNews spoke with Kendall and we’ve been keeping track on his progress via the social networking site Facebook. He told us that he “thanks God” for putting him in that position and that he’s now capable of winning a gold medal. If he, or Dariel, do pick up the top prize or even a silver they will be representing Cayman at the London Olympics next year. Two more fine examples of the young people of the Island proving that not all are as bad and should be tarred with the same brush as those who have strayed off the path. We need more Dariels, Kendalls and Charles Whittakers in Cayman but more importantly, we need far more Norman Wilsons. Everyone at iNews wishes them the best of luck during the Boxing Championships that continue throughout October. But in my mind, they are already winners.

Battle over new JLP leadership

In the running: Mr. Andrew Holness

Kevin Creary kevin.creary@ieyenews.com

Political pundits believe that a mysterious meeting between Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) officials, just hours after the JLP Leader and Prime Minister announced his plan to resign, was part of a conspiracy. The Jamaican Prime Minister, Honourable Bruce Golding, has formally announced his decision to vacate the country’s leadership position, despite pleas from his party. JLP loyalists have heavily criticised the Prime Minister’s decision and have been imploring him not to leave. Mr. Audley Shaw, active JLP stalwart, political veteran, and seasoned political campaigner, is the man most favored to succeed Mr. Golding. Mr. Shaw has amassed more than 20 years of political experience in the JLP, and has been waiting for the opportunity to lead the party since 1999, when he was appointed as the Deputy Party Leader. Although the Deputy Leader’s promotion is almost written in stone, popular party comrade, Mr. Andrew Holness, can thwart his destiny to the throne. Sources say that the JLP assembly attended the closed-doors meeting at the private home of Jamaican Attorney at Law, Mr. Harold Brady. The JLP officials included Party Chairman Mr. Carl Samuda, and it is claimed they gathered to orchestrate to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

ways for Mr. Shaw to lead the party. However homeowner, Mr. Brady, is no stranger to conflict. Mr. Brady was embroiled in ferocious blame game after he was accused of entertaining the services of a US based law firm, Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, in response to the United States’ request for the extradition of Mr. Christopher “Dudus” Coke. The Attorney at Law later filed a lawsuit against the Jamaican Prime Minister for statements made during a commission of enquiry. Former Tivoli Gardens political representative and Prime Minister, Mr. Edward Seaga inducted Mr. Shaw into the Labour Party in 1989. Mr. Shaw has held the position of Shadow Minister of Information and Culture, Shadow Minister of Public Utilities and Transport, and Shadow Minister of Industry and Commerce.

In September 2007 Mr. Audley Shaw was appointed as Jamaica’s Minister of Finance. With 14 years of experience in representational politics but no less politically savvy, younger rival, Andrew Holness, have also worn multiple hats for the reigning JLP. Andrew Holness enjoys great popularity among his constituents and has been enjoying the privileges of belonging to the hierarchy and is equally ambitious. Mr. Holness served as a special assistant to the then Party Leader, Honourable Edward Seaga, before becoming the MP for West Central St. Andrew in 1997. Mr. Holness served as the opposition spokesperson on land and development, then housing and education, and was sworn in as Minister of Education in September 2007.

Chamber inspires leadership in Cayman

Left to right: Sheena Thompson, one of this year’s Leadership Cayman graduates, and Simon Garnett, graduate from the inaugural programme in 2010 and this year’s Chairman of this year’s planning committee

Christopher Tobutt christopher.tobutt@ieyenews.com

With the motto “Connect, Grow, Inspire,” Leadership Cayman, a series of seminars offered by Chamber of Commerce, aims at offering local residents the opportunity of expanding their leadership skills. The chamber is inviting prospective participants to attend a series of orientation evenings being held from the middle of October, where they can find out more about the programme. From January 2012 a series of 11 bi-weekly seminars will expose the 24 Leadership Cayman participants - drawn residents who meet the Chamber’s selection criteria - to leaders from many walks of Cayman life. Speakers are scheduled to include H.E the Governor, MLAs, senior civil servants, judges, journalists, and prominent business people. Chairman of the Planning Committee for this year’s Leadership Cayman programme, Simon Garnett said: “We look to bring in key movers and shakers in their respective fields and it allows the class to get up close and personal with these individuals to gain their perspectives…with the hope that in the fullness of time some of the

issues that affect Cayman society can be addressed.” Leadership Cayman participants will also ‘give back’ to the community by helping out for a day at a local notfor-profit organisation. “In 2010 we worked at the Bonaventure Boys’ home in West Bay and spent the day there making the whole place better for the people that live there. We power-washed the outside, painted the whole of the inside, and replaced a couple of broken doors,” Mr. Garnett said. Mr. Garnett, who is a graduate from the inaugural class of 2010, was joined by Sheena Thompson, a graduate from this year’s programme. “From a personal experience I have to say that this is probably one of the most dynamic and impactful experiences and programmes that I’ve ever actually participated in,” Ms Thompson said. “I think the motto of the programme: “Connect, Grow Inspire,” really does summarise all of the things that the programme embodies …you get the opportunity to connect with a very large group of people,” she added. After a musical prelude (instrumental) a solo voice walked up the isle singing, “Lift every voice and sing till the Earth and Heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of liberty…” Grenda Solomon who has a very powerful and beautiful voice beautifully performed this solo. The program proceeded with a Psalm of Praise, Prayer of approach. Rev. Ralph Hoyte lead us all in with the singing which was powerfully performed and accompanied by the piano, Steel Pan and drums all very well performed and the songs chosen

for the evening were so appropriate for us today. “Let there be peace on earth” (which we badly need today) “Master the tempest is raging “ “Don’t assume that God’s dismissed you from mind” and each time Rev. Hoyte would lead us into each line by explaining the meaning etc. giving real emphasis to the words. This service was really well done and I wish it could be repeated… Rejoice in the Lord always… Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God – the Audacity to Pray; the Audacity of Hope. So many beautiful songs were sung but this one I think is the one we need to concentrate on – “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me”

World Teachers Day: 5th October Every year on 5th October teachers across the globe are celebrated by their employers, students, parents, communities and teaching organisations. The day has been observed annually since 1994 as World Teachers’ Day, after the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) adopted the “Recommendation concerning the status of teachers”. This year’s theme is Teachers for gender equality. Observed in conjunction with Education International (EI), the day is used to celebrate and promote international standards for the teaching profession. Both organisations also aim to mobilise support for teachers and to ensure that the needs of future generations will continue to be met by the teaching profession. Locally, Minister for Education, the Hon. Rolston Anglin, JP, encourages parent teacher associations, students and community members to commemorate the day by acknowledging all our dedicated teachers. “We have all benefited in one way or another from the contributions

of teachers, and many of us can still remember that one teacher or maybe two who made a lasting impression on our lives. We often forget, however, to stop and simply say thank you or to show our gratitude for the lifechanging impact they’ve had. “So I use this opportunity to encourage parents and the wider community to join me in thanking our children’s teachers on 5 October,” he said. “Our goal for a high quality public education system that will ensure every child succeeds starts with motivated and knowledgeable teachers. They are

at the center of the process.” He added a reminder however that parents must work closely with their children’s teachers, noting that parents’ participation in their children’s education was a major factor in guaranteeing their success. Students and community members may share photos of their World Teachers’ Day celebrations or send e-cards to teachers from www.5oct. org. Information on this year’s theme, as well as the annual celebration’s history, is also available there. World Teachers’ Day is observed by more than 100 countries globally.

Now that the ‘September to Remember’ campaign is over, it doesn’t mean the public has to stop showing their support. September to Remember encompassed two main events this year, the annual golf tournament sponsored by Royal Bank of Canada and a dinner dance, which were both a great success. Cayman First not only supported these two events but also have now pledged to give ongoing support especially to the Red Cross’ Disaster Management Programmes. The two main elements of these programmes are Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Response. Cayman First’s General Manager, Michael Gayle said, “It was encouraging to see so many corporations and individuals come on board as sponsors for these well attended, high profile events. “There are opportunities for everyone in the community to step up, volunteer and make a difference. The Red Cross is increasing their

Disaster Management programme to include the creation of district response teams. Jondo Obi, the Director of the Cayman Islands Red Cross said, “Our goal is to empower community members to become more resilient in times of crisis and have the tools they need to help themselves and each other. “We are working on this initiative with the Government, namely Hazard Management Cayman Islands, at a national level and in the coming years, our aim is to establish various community teams within each district. “Cayman First’s commitment to the Red Cross will help us achieve this” said Jondo Obi. They encourages the community to volunteer, as there are many different ways to get involved with the Red Cross. In Grand Cayman, the Container Project is an integral part of disaster preparedness. The Red Cross provides one 40 ft. container of essential supplies, such as tarps, buckets, collapsible jerry cans, hygiene kits, cleaning kits, family

kits, shovels and generator, to each of the seven districts as well as Cayman Brac & Little Cayman to facilitate swift response following a disaster. This project also maintains a mobile disaster response unit enabling the recovery nerve centre to be situated right at the heart of operations. Get involved with the Run for 50 Years, supporting the Thrift Shop, supporting Wheels on Deals, becoming a volunteer, making a donation or renting their conference room. Make a donation: You can make a donation to the Red Cross in various ways: • Drop off clothing, furniture and/ or other items which can be sold at the Thrift Shop. Anyone wishing to donate big items such as furniture, appliances and the like, will be happy to know that they do pick-ups. The girls lined up, focused, ready to face a gargantuan physical and mental challenge…the dreaded beep test. Fourteen-year-old Janel Ebanks was the stand out participant in the multi-stage fitness test. The test is used by sports coaches and trainers to estimate an athlete’s VO2 max (maximum oxygen uptake). The test is the most accurate way to test a player’s cardiovascular fitness which is a major component of physical fitness. Janel finally ended the test on Stage 30 with a Distance of 1.200 KM with a maximum oxygen capacity VO2 reading of 46.48. To put that number into perspective the average English Premiership Professional Football players VO2 max reading will fluctuate between 56.00 – 77.00. Fourteen-year-old Nicole Whittaker also put up some very impressive numbers stopping at Stage 28. Shanice Monteith and Amanda Frederick both stopped at stage 26. Dishin’ with Dody I’ll take a Saturday date anyway I can get it! Have you ever been to a party with over 10,000 people attending? I have! Mike and I recently visited the Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show in Houston. I believe it is the 6th year of this show, although I kept getting different answers. The down-home cooking queen, Paula Deen, demonstrated some of her favourite recipes. There were twenty-two other chefs, entertainment experts and grub gurus sharing their kitchen secrets. The Metro Show is the only award winning consumer event in the nation for cooking and entertaining enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. We experienced more than 200 exhibitors, saw live cooking demos by renowned chefs and participated in numerous cooking and entertaining workshops. I would say it was the “super bowl” of cooking and entertaining and catered to those with a passion for both. Most of the exhibitors were selling their ware, but many were only sampling their “order only” foodstuffs. And we participated in tasting after tasting after tasting with no complaint! There were a few purchases made, mostly autographed celebrity chef’s cook books and a jalapeno shaped pepper popper cooker. This was the one item I was hoping to find. I crossed a couple of names off my Christmas shopping list with some specialty gifts. Mike and I sampled food and beverages, learned a few cooking and entertaining techniques and had an incredibly enjoyable day. Of all the sampled products, the one that I found amazing was “Dukes Chocolate Cake”. The product that was being introduced was “Dukes Mayonnaise”. Although I had heard of cakes with mayonnaise instead of egg and oil (which makes great sense as mayonnaise is mostly egg and oil) I had never tried making one. The sampled cake was the moistest and most “chocolatey” I have ever to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

eaten! I’m a bit of a skeptic and researched several sights to compare other chocolate cake recipes including mayonnaise. I am pleased to tell you that none I compared were the same or, in my opinion, would have been as good. After my research, I made the cake exactly as printed to rave reviews. I know this brand of mayonnaise may not be available everywhere, so use a premium brand and I promise to never tell.

Part I Osteoporosis diagnosis Dr Bella Beraha info@ieyenews.com Dr Bella Beraha, born in Venezuela, joined us this month from Miami. She is an M.D. in Internal Medicine and runs a successful medically supervised weight loss program from the clinic.

When you think about staying healthy, you probably think about making lifestyle changes to prevent conditions like cancer and heart disease. Keeping your bones healthy to prevent osteoporosis may not be at the top of your wellness list. But it should be. Osteoporosis is a common problem that causes bones to become abnormally thin, weakened, and easily broken (fractured). There were an estimated nine million osteoporotic fractures worldwide in 2000. Women are at a higher risk for osteoporosis after menopause due to lower levels of estrogen, a female hormone that helps to maintain bone mass. Broken bones due to osteoporosis are most likely to occur in the hip, spine and wrist, but other bones can break too. Broken bones can cause severe pain that may not go away. Some people lose height and become shorter. It can also affect your posture, causing you to become stooped or hunched. Fortunately, preventive treatments are available that can help to maintain or increase bone density. For those already affected by osteoporosis, prompt diagnosis of bone loss and

assessment of fracture risk are essential because therapies are available that can slow further loss of bone or increase bone density.

DIAGNOSIS: The best test is a bone density test called the “DXA test.” It is a special kind of X-ray. Candidates for testing We suggest testing (DXA) in women 65 years of age and older and in postmenopausal women younger than 65 years of age with clinical risk factors for fracture. In the United States and Canada, the majority of groups recommend BMD assessment in postmenopausal women 65 years and older regardless of risk factors. This recommendation is based upon the findings of an increased incidence of fracture that occurs in conjunction with low BMD (bone density) after age 65 years and clinical trial data demonstrating a reduction in fracture when these women are treated. We recommend measurement of BMD in men with clinical manifestations of low bone mass, such as osteopenia (thin bones pre osteoporosis) on routine x-rays, history of low trauma fractures, and loss of more than 1.5 inches in height, as well as in those with risk factors for fracture, such as long-term glucocorticoid therapy, androgen deprivation therapy for prostate

Name: Lyneth Monteith CINA Position: Second Vice-President Occupation: Principal John Gray High School

cancer, hypogonadism, primary hyperparathyroidism, and intestinal disorders. Some advocate testing all men over the age of 70. Since hip fracture is often associated with significant morbidity and mortality compared with other fractures, DXA of the hip is generally regarded as the best site for diagnosis of osteoporosis. In contrast, the lumbar spine is often considered the best skeletal site to monitor because it shows less variability and can detect responses to therapy earlier than hip BMD.

FOLLOW UP: Our approach in women and men with a normal baseline measurement is as follows: • In the presence of risk factors that may cause ongoing bone loss (eg, glucocorticoid use, hyperparathyroidism), we perform follow-up measurements approximately every two years, as long as the risk factor persists. • We perform follow-up measurements approximately every two years in high-risk women during the first five years of menopause, when bone resorption is most prominent. • In women with no risk factors for accelerated bone loss we will typically perform a follow-up DXA in three to five years. See iNews on Monday for PART 2: Osteoporosis prevention

We continue our serialisation of Anne by Constance Fenimore Woolson

Anne Part 57

“I shall never forgive myself, Rast, for having let you go”

It was considered quite an achievement to bring back this accomplished animal, and Rast was not above the glory. But it was not to be so easy as he had imagined: several minutes passed and he did not return, Spotty’s dog having shown his thin nose and one eye but an instant at the top of the height, and then withdrawn them, leaving no trace behind. “We will go up the path, and join Anne,” said Père Michaux; “we will not wait longer for Rast. He can find us there as well as here.” They started; but after a few steps the priest’s foot slipped on a rolling stone; he lost his balance, and half fell, half sank to the ground, fortunately directly along the narrow path, and not beyond its edge. When he attempted to rise, he found that his ankle was strained: he was a large man, and he had fallen heavily. Tita bound up the place as well as she could with his handkerchief and her own formed into a bandage; but at best he could only hobble. He might manage to go down the path to the house, but evidently he could not clamber further. Again they waited for Rast, but he did not come. They called, but no one answered. They were perched half way up the white cliff, where no one could hear them. Tita’s whole face had grown darkly red, as though the blood would burst through; she looked coppercolored, and her expression was full of repressed impatience. Père Michaux, himself more perturbed and angry than so slight a hurt would seem to justify, happening to look at her, was seized with an idea. “Run up, child,” he said, “and join Anne; do not leave her again. Tell her what has happened, and—mind what I say exactly, Tita—do not leave her.” Tita was off up the path and out of sight in an instant. The old priest, left to him, hobbled slowly down the hill and across the garden to the Agency, not without some difficulty and pain. Anne had gone up to the heights, to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

and seated herself in good faith to wait for the others; Rast had gone after the dog in good faith, and not to seek Anne. Yet they met, and the others did not find them. The dog ran away, and Rast after him, down the north path for a mile, and then straight into the fir wood, where nothing can be caught, man or dog. So Rast came back, not by the path, but through the forest, and found Anne sitting in a little nook among the arbor vitæ, where there was an opening, like a green window, overlooking the harbor. He sat down by her side, and fanned himself with his hat for a few moments, and then he went down to find Père Michaux and bring him up thither. But by that time the priest had reached the house, and he returned, saying that he saw by the foot-marks that the old man had for some reason gone down the hill again, leaving them to watch their last sunset alone. He threw himself down by Anne’s side, and together they looked through their green casement. “The steamer has turned the point,” said Anne. They both watched it in silence. They heard the evening gun from the fort. “I shall never forgive myself, Rast, for having let you go before so carelessly. When the gale began that night, every blast seemed to go through my heart.” “I thought you did not appear

to care much,” said Rast, in an aggrieved tone. “Did you notice it, then? It was only because I have to repress myself every moment, dear, lest I should give way entirely. You know I too must go far away—far away from all I love. I feel it very deeply. She turned toward him as she spoke, with her eyes full of tears. Her hat was off, and her face, softened by emotion, looked for the first time to his eyes womanly. For generally that frank brow, direct gaze, and impersonal expression gave her the air of a child. Rast had never thought that Anne was beautiful; he had never thought of himself as her lover. He was very fond of her, of course; and she was very fond of him; and he meant to be good to her always. But that was all. Now, however, suddenly a new feeling came over him; he realized that her eyes were very lovely, and that her lips trembled with emotion. True, even then she did not turn from him, rather toward him; but he was too young himself to understand these indications, and, carried away by her sweetness, his own affection, and the impulse of the moment, he put his arm round her, and drew her toward him, sure that he loved her, and especially sure that she loved him. Poor Anne, who would soon have to part with him—dear Anne, his old playmate and friend!

Try our New Ocean front location in WEST BAY

Flying and skydiving So much fun in the sky Georgina Wilcox georgina.wilcox@ieyenews.com

Aviation in America has a long and glorious tradition dating all the way back to the days of the Wright Brothers. When these two men decided they would make a flying machine, most people thought they were insane. Man is not meant to fly, that is for the birds. It is impossible, physically and technically and it can never happen. But history has proven the doubters wrong time and again and aviation was no exception. Now days, anyone can fly. Not only in a commercial plane but anyone with the right frame of mind and desire can learn how to fly themselves. It is not as hard as you might think. There are a slew of independent web sites that can have the wannabe pilot up and running in a very short time. Most of these online schools cost anywhere from two thousand dollars all the way up to ten thousand. They range from eleven days to several weeks in length. Do some research into what works well with your schedule and decide the best fit before committing to anything. Also, make sure they are an accredited school and your license will be much easier to get. These classes are fun and informative. You start out by learning the technical aspects of flying, including the rules and regulations of airspace. These guidelines are important to understand when learning to fly. Next, you move on to hands-on interaction with certified instructors. You will learn the ins and outs of the cockpit and the entire plane itself. In order to fully know what you are doing, this approach is key. Be safe first and then have fun with your newly acquired skills. Keep in mind that passing these first tests does not qualify you for flight. Gaining full status to fly is a longer process but a necessary one. A certain number of hours must be completed in the air before becoming a fully functioning member of the airborne, aviation community. Once this process is complete, your work is over and now to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

Monday - Saturday the real fun begins. So what can one do with an aviation license? What activities are fun and available to a fully licensed pilot? First is the possibility of owning your own plane. If you own your own plane, the possibilities for recreation are endless. Where have you always wanted to go but could not because of time constraints and lack of money? When you are the pilot, nowhere is off limits. Been meaning to go to Canada? Seychelles? No problem, since now you have your own plane and can fly there yourself. Not to mention you bypass the headache everyone must face now in going to the airport. Why wait in line for hours and go through security checkpoints when you can take off whenever you want and go wherever you want? Flying can become a fun, relaxing, and educational experience rather than the excruciating pain it is now. Another recreational activity that can be done with flying is skydiving. Skydiving is enjoyed by thousands of people each year. One of the most gratifying experiences is conquering your fear of heights, getting a rush from the free-fall or just plain doing

something new and exciting. For first time skydivers, tandem diving is recommended. With this method, you do not need to learn how to skydive at all but can still enjoy the feeling. A trained professional is connected to you while you jump and they do all the necessary work as you have all the fun. Sounds like a good combination? It is. For other more seasoned skydivers, there is always the accelerated free-fall. In this method, a person can move faster towards their goal by completing this as a first jump and getting closer to full certification. This is for serious jumpers that intend to continue skydiving for some time. So, all of this fun and excitement stems from the wonderful invention and profession of aviation. So many opportunities presented themselves when the first plane was flown. Whether one experiences it first hand by learning to fly and becoming a pilot or uses a plane to take a trip or to participate in a fun activity such as skydiving, everyone benefits from its practice. “But, Georgina,” I can hear you saying, “You can’t do that here in Cayman?” You can. Just fly somewhere else.

China launches module for space station BEIJING (AP) — China launched an experimental module to lay the groundwork for a future space station on Thursday, underscoring its ambitions to become a major space power. The box car-sized Tiangong-1 module was shot into space from the Jiuquan launch center on the edge of the Gobi Desert aboard a Long March 2FT1 rocket. After moving it into orbit 217 miles (350 kilometers) above the Earth, China plans to launch an unmanned Shenzhou 8 spacecraft to practice remote-controlled docking maneuvers with the module, possibly within the next few weeks. Two more missions, at least one of them manned, are to meet up with it next year for further practice, with astronauts staying for up to one month. The 8.5-ton module, whose name translates as “Heavenly Palace-1,” is to stay aloft for two years, after which two other experimental modules are to be launched for additional tests before the actual station is launched in three sections between 2020 and 2022. “This is a significant test. We’ve never done such a thing before,” Lu Jinrong, the launch center’s chief engineer, was quoted as saying by the official Xinhua News Agency. The space station, which is yet to be formally named, is the most ambitious project in China’s exploration of space, which also calls for landing on the moon, possibly with astronauts. China launched its first manned flight in 2003, joining Russia and the United States as the only countries

with no apparent major problems, the launch of the Tiangong-1 module was delayed for one year for technical reasons, and then rescheduled again after a Long March 2C rocket similar to the Long March 2F failed to reach orbit in August. The incident with the rocket was investigated and problems were reportedly resolved. Although experts see no explicit military function for the Chinese space station, the country’s other space-based military programs, including the destruction of a defunct Chinese satellite with a rocket in 2007, have caused alarm overseas. “It is a nation doing its own thing saying, ‘OK, we can do what you did for our own country separate from cooperation, on Chinese terms,’” said Charles Vick, an expert on the Chinese space program with Globalsecurity.org, which tracks military and security news. In terms of technology, the launch of the Tiangong-1 places China about where the U.S. was in the 1960s during the Gemini program. While it is planning fewer launches than the U.S. carried out, the Chinese program progresses farther than the U.S. did with each launch it undertakes, said Joan Johnson-Freese, a space expert at the U.S. Naval War College in Rhode Island. to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

Ham Radio

Georgina Wilcox georgina.wilcox@ieyenews.com

Part 1 Written by : Victoria Anderson

Ham radio is often referred to as amateur radio and is a hobby that is enjoyed by millions of individuals across the globe. A ham radio operator uses a twoway radio to broadcast with other amateurs for the purpose of entertainment, public service or other venture.

Risk factors for cervical cancer are similar to the risk factors for HPV The Cayman Islands Cancer Society is observing September as Cervical Cancers/HPV Awareness Month. Nearly two decades ago, experts discovered a relationship between infection with HPV (human papillomavirus) and cervical cancer. In the first of a of a two part series we will discuss what every woman and girl should know about HPV and cervical cancer.

The cervix is part of the female reproductive system. It is the lower part of the uterus (womb) that widens during childbirth to allow the passage of the fetus. Cervical cancer is the diagnosis when the cells lining the cervix reproduce and divide abnormally.

A preventable disease? Cervical cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in women in the Caribbean and one of the leading causes of death from cancer in women in the region. Often these women are in the prime of their lives with families to take care of. The question can however be asked are many of these deaths needless? Almost 100% of all cases of cervical cancer can be attributed to one cause – exposure to a sexually transmitted form of the human papilloma virus (HPV).Most people who have ever experienced intimate sexual contact with another person will have been exposed to this virus and will have had an “active” HPV infection at some point in their lives. For most people the body’s immune system kicks into action and the infection is eliminated from the body often without the infected person ever knowing they had the virus. In a few people, sometimes because their immune system is otherwise compromised, the virus persists and remains. It is in persons with persistent HPV infections that cancer can develop, often 10 – 20 years after the initial infection.

Early age of sexual exploration and intimate sexual contact, multiple sexual partners over a lifetime especially if those partners have also had multiple partners. The more times a woman has been pregnant the more likely she is to develop cervical cancer especially if more than one man is the father of her children. Additionally women who smoke are twice as likely to develop the disease as are women who have had a mother or sister diagnosed with cervical cancer. Long-term use of the oral contraceptive pill will also increase risk.

How to lower your risk for cervical cancer

Ham radio was once confined to an actual radio, but the progression of the World Wide Web has changed the way that people both listen and communicate via radio. In fact, there are a number of radio stations that actively communicate with listeners online. This activity paved the way for ham radio to reach a broad audience via the Internet. While some simply use ham radio as a way to talk with friends, meet new people who share common interest and discuss topics that are relevant to a specific idea, others regularly use ham radio to send and receive emergency notifications relating to severe weather, emergency situations, disaster relief and other forms of scenarios that call for fast action that are of interest to the public. Like traditional radios, ham radio equipment is often portable enough to accompany the operator while on vacation. In order to use ham radio, individuals must be licensed and cannot successfully travel with the equipment otherwise. The only way that an individual can become licensed to operate ham radio is to successfully pass an exam, which is created to confirm the individual’s knowledge and understanding of key radio concepts. Unlike CB radio, individuals broadcasting on ham radio must possess a valid license to do so. If you are interested, contact the Cayman Amateur Radio Society at caymanhams.org

Women can therefore substantially lower their risk by abstaining from initial sexual contact for as long as possible, remaining in a monogamous relationship and avoiding tobacco products. Women can also lower their risk by having a Pap smear on a regular basis – at least once every two – three years or more frequently if recommended by a doctor and by getting vaccinated with the HPV vaccines; either Gardasil or Cervarix (this ideally should be done before sexual initiation). This will be further discussed in a future article. The cells on the surface of the cervix can become abnormal before they become malignant (cancerous), a condition known as cervical dysplasia. A Pap smear can identify these changes allowing treatment to occur at a stage before cancer has developed. Should cervical cancer develop, it often does so without any early warning signs or symptoms. As the disease progresses signs that you might notice are abnormal bleeding e.g. between periods or after sexual intercourse, or for those people who no longer have a period, there may be new bleeding. You may also observe an abnormal discharge that might have an odour associated with it. Symptoms that you might feel are discomfort during intercourse and pelvic pain. It is important to remember that these are also signs and symptoms of other medical conditions, so consult your doctor if you notice any of them.

Chelsea pay the penalty late on Paul Kennedy paul.kennedy@ieyenews.com

Frank Lampard proved his worth to Chelsea with a goal in their Champions League clash with Valencia on Wednesday but a late Roberto Soldado penalty earned the hosts a 1-1 draw. The build-up to the game had focused on the diminishing role that Lampard is having in the Chelsea team under Andre Villas-Boas, with the England midfielder having played in only one of his side’s previous four games. Lampard had a quiet game but crucially found the back of the net after 56 minutes as the ball was played back to him inside the box by Florent Malouda. The game opened up in the final stages and Soldado converted a penalty three minutes from time following a handball by substitute Salomon Kalou. “It was a solid performance,” said Villas-Boas. “After the break we came out strongly and had good chances to make it 2-0 but we couldn’t hit the back of the net. “It was unlucky and then they scored and got a draw. It was a good performance from Lampard and there is nothing more to say. He is one of the best players in our squad and I was very happy with him.” Arsenal set aside their poor league form so far this season with a valuable home win against Greek side Olympiakos 2-1. The Gunners made a roaring start against Olympiakos, easing into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by 18-yearold Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – the

third youngest scorer for Arsenal in Champions League history – and Andre Santos. However, some dreadful Gunners defending allowed Olympiakos back into the match six minutes later as David Fuster made them pay. “It was a really good experience,” said Oxlade-Chamberlain. “It’s a big step up, but I want to play at the top level and I have plenty more time to play in the

Champions League. “It’s my first time in the Champions League and I’m glad we’ve achieved three points.” Barcelona kick-started their defence by roundly thumping BATE Borisov as Lionel Messi scored twice in a 5-0 win to further cement his place in the history of the Catalan club. Messi scored either side of half-time on a rainy evening to take his overall tally for the club to 194 goals and move level with Hungary legend Ladislao Kubala in second place in Barca’s alltime list of leading scorers. Only Cesar Rodriguez – who scored 235 goals in the post-Civil War era – is still ahead of Messi, but the little Argentine striker seems certain to eclipse even him in the not-too-distant future given his recent run of form. Meanwhile, Zlatan Ibrahimovic starred on his injury comeback as he inspired AC Milan to a 2-0 victory over Viktoria Plzen. The big Swede came straight back into the team following two weeks out with a groin strain and scored a penalty before setting up Antonio Cassano for the decisive second.

One final loss, an epic collapse by the Braves ATLANTA (AP) — Nearly an hour after one more loss in a historic collapse, Freddie Freeman walked through the Braves clubhouse still wearing his No. 5 uniform, as if he couldn’t believe he’d be taking it off for the final time this year. Indeed, the season is over. It’s going to take a long time to get over this one.

With a September swoon that ranked right up there with all those playoff flops in the 1990s and 2000s, Atlanta frittered away a wild card that seemed a certainly just a few weeks ago. Instead, it’s St. Louis heading to the playoffs, while the Braves have all winter to figure out what went wrong. Was it that blown lead in St. Louis, which opened the door for a Cardinals sweep that seemed to turn the tide in early September? Was it that potentially game-ending grounder Chipper Jones somehow lost in the lights at Florida, quickly followed by a homer that handed the Braves another excruciating loss? Was it the injury-plagued starters? The young bullpen that seemed to wear down? The punchless offense that totally disappeared in the final days? Whatever the reasons, it officially ended Wednesday night with closer Craig Kimbrel blowing a lead in the ninth inning and Hunter Pence coming through with a twoout, broken-bat single in the 13th that gave the Philadelphia Phillies a 4-3 victory.

She said the department’s chief, Ralph Godbee, thinks the arrangement is illegal, but that the department won’t take action until it completes its investigation. The Lions’ next home game is Oct. 10 against the Chicago Bears. “We know the game is coming up and ... we’re looking into this whole operation,” Stephens said. Police began investigating after WDIV-TV broadcast a story about the bus this week. The station reported that the bus was parked next to Detroit’s Eastern Market, which is a popular tailgating spot that is about a half-mile from Ford Field, where the Lions play. The bus operators, who didn’t respond to email and phone requests seeking comment, say on their Facebook page that the bus can be hired for private parties and is available with or without “ladys,” adding that “our opinion is that it is a lot more fun with em!”

Fidelity 2011: Scores pound the tarmac

Images from last year’s Fidelity Fun Run 2011. Courtesy of www.caymanactive.com/fidelityfunrun.

Action in the Fidelity 2011 Fun Run Series took on a new look as participation increased to a total of 181 individuals, plus prams and pets. More than 50 newcomers actually lined up for the start of the second race on Walkers Road. Many performance times were lowered from the previous week’s results. Nevertheless that did not hold true in all cases. The first four finishers completed the course in exactly the same order as they had in week one. Marius Acker eased up somewhat, but still was a comfortable victor in 11:11. Conrad Proud took runner-up honours with a consistent 11:19. Carl Grant finished with a mark of 11:29 and Tristan von Kirchenheim at 11:37 improved a bit. Chadwick Webster took fifth place in 11:38. For the ladies, in the absence of first week winner Beth Schreader, Tracey Walker captured first place in 13:07 with Lauretta Bennett second at 13:20. Rounding out the ladies top five were Emma Byrnes (13:32), Mario Pandohie (13:42) and Pam Abbott (13:50). Russell Coleman did not match his scorching pace of week one in the pram division, as Nchane Jere took top honours.

Shaun Green repeated his win in the pet division. Going into the home stretch, after the first two outings, overall top finishers in the men’s category have followed the same path each week. The ladies category is much more questionable with Tracey Walker and Lauretta Bennett engaged in a struggle for top honours. Leaders after two weeks: • Under 12-Katriona Williams/ Reese Hoeksema • Age 12-14---Ashley McLeanTiffany Cole (tie)/Brandon Williams • Age 15-19---Sheyla Torres/ Tristan von Kirchenheim • Age 20-29---Emma Byrnes/ Carl Grant • Age 30-39---Tracey WalkerLauretta Bennett (tie)/Conrad Proud • Age 40-49---Maria Leonce/ Marius Acker • Age 50-59---Vance GoldingSouth/Chris Sutton • Age 60+-----Ann Elliott/ Roger Daavies • Pram---Nchane Jere & Russell Coleman (tie) • Pet -----Shaun Green

With three ties to be broken and close battles in several areas an exciting finale is anticipated. There are always one-off entrants who shake up the rankings on the final day, and of course, as the top five overall male and female scorers are prohibited from also scoring in an age group, some surprises are possible in several divisions. Everyone is invited to come out for the fun!
